R's X11 Device Properties
Hello, This is an issue that is at the interface of R, X, and my window manager (either icewm or openbox, both latest versions). I am running R 2.10.1 on Ubuntu 9.10. My goal: When an X11 device is started in R (e.g., by simply calling plot), I would like for the resulting window to be in the "always on top" state, and for focus not to switch to it. Configuring this behavior is

Font Size for View()
Thanks for the feedback. At least on Windows, the font size for View() appears to be controlled by the font size specified under the Rgui preferences / Rconsole. I thought that under Linux, it might be controlled by some .Xresources/.Xdefaults setting. Ok, will wait for a bit but if nobody else has any suggestions, I'll ask on r-devel. VNCServer Startup Config
hi all, I've inherited a server with CentOS 6.4 the VNC Server starts up with the OS and its screen resolution is set to 800x600. I found that I can set the resolution by specifying the -geometry switch, but I can't find where the call to start the vncserver is set in order to change it. I know that it's not in /etc/xinetd.d (the only file there is rsync) here are the contents of

VNC vs GNOME desktop
I'm trying to use VNC to connect my home Centos box (up to date centos 5) to my Centos 4 (also up to date) at work. I have no problem connecting. The problem occurs after logging in, for every applet in the bottom Gnome panel I get an error box from which I can choose to remove the applet from the panel, or just go on. I choose to not delete but to just go on. After I get a half dozen or so of

wiki - vnc -gerald and walsh, update?
To GeraldClark and PjWelsh, I have centos 6 and used your guide to get it going with vnc. First of all thanks for putting that up, so many techs told me I did not have to install a desktop to make it work and they were so wrong. http://wiki.centos.org/HowTos/VNC-Server Using centos 6 I found some differences and wanted to post them here to see if anything helps clear it all up. I acutally

R-alpha: Bugs in R-0.50-a1.
Problems in R but not in S: --------------------------- 1) 'unlist' seems to have several other problems than the ones reported up to now. For instance, 'unlist' can be used on almost any object in S without much trouble. Eg.: S> unlist(c(2)) [1] 2 S> --- R> unlist(c(2)) Segmentation fault (core dumped) This occurs in R-0.49 and in R-0.50-a1. 2) Problem with the

small window manager
What is an alternative X window manager, supported by CentOS, that has very small memory footprint? I want to avoid twm, because it defaults to interactive placement when not giving geometry options. window "placement"
Using Thomas Baier's DCOM server I can do the following (in Windows 2000): I create a slider in Excel, and the sliders On_Change event triggers a call to R. This call redraws an R graph, and so I have animated R graphics controlled by Excel's slider. The problem is that Excel needs focus so i can grab the slider, and therefore it partially covers R's graph window. Is there a way to

Where should my Xdefaults file be?
Apparently in order to get Japanese input working, I need to edit my Xdefaults file. By hunting on the web, I've read that I can create my own Xdefaults file, but it's been very difficult to determine where I should create it. I simply want to add the following line to this file: *inputMethod kinput2 ... so that Japanese input will be enabled. I want this setting to be global for all

[PATCH 1/3] drm/qxl: allow both PRIV and VRAM placement for QXL_GEM_DOMAIN_SURFACE
qxl surfaces (used for framebuffers and gem objects) can live in both VRAM and PRIV ttm domains. Update placement setup to include both. Put PRIV first in the list so it is preferred, so VRAM will have more room for objects which must be allocated there. Legend placement in barplot?
This has been asked before, but all the answers are hidiously complex. The legend.text=TRUE option of barplot is almost exactly what I need, except I need a legend.placement='tl' (top left) option. This option would be in contrast to the default placement which we could call 'tr' (top right). Anyone know how to edit the barplot code to make this change? Could someone like me
