ordering and factors into column headings
Hi, The lab in which I send my samples return the results in a format that is difficult for me to run my analysis. The lab outputs the results where each parameter is its own row and it’s not consistently in the same order (and not each sample is tested for the same suite of variables). e.g. >dataset site parameter value a e2 3 a e1 1 a e3 5 b e3

survdiff
Hello, As I am quitte an ignorant user of R, excuse me for any wrongfull usage of all the terms. My question relates to the statistics behind the survdiff function in the package survival. My textbook knowledge of the logrank test tells me that if I want to compare two survival curves, I have to take the sum of the factors: (O-E)^2/E of both groups, which will give me the Chisq. If I calculate

Less than equal to symbol in ggplot2 legend text
Hello, I am trying to add a less than equal to symbol in a ggplot2 legend text. See sample code below. I have tried using the expression function and \u2264. I also tried adding labels to legend.text under theme. Neither of these 3 options work. Please help, Mahesh ++++++++++++++ Extra.column=ifelse(data[,covariate]>cutpoint,1,0) Grp1 <- "\u2264 1.5" Grp2 <-

Legend in plot: symbol for mean and standard deviation
Dear list, I am facing the following problem with the legend of a plot that display the mean and variance of a measurement y as a function of x, the mean being represented by a dot and the variance by a vertical line. My problem is that I am unable to display the symbol (dot + vertical line) in the legend. any help is welcome, thanks marco --

Cluster Analysis - Number of Clusters
Hello, I'm playing around with cluster analysis, and am looking for methods to select the number of clusters. I am aware of methods based on a 'pseudo F' or a 'pseudo T^2'. Are there packages in R that will generate these statistics, and/or other statistics to aid in cluster number selection? Thanks, John. --

Multiple symbols per single line in a legend
Hello everybody, Is it possible to coax legend() into displaying more than one simbol per line in legend? I have a graph like the one attached to this mail; I would like to reorganize the legend in such a way that the duplicate text would be omitted, i.e., the first line would read <square> <triangledown> "increasing frequency" and the second one would read <circle>

legend
Hi, A very simple thing that I'm unable to do. I did look at the help but .... While putting a legend on a plot, I don't wish to have the enclosing border surrounding the words (as given below). Tried to use the following, but didn't help : legend (locator(1), border=FALSE, fill=FALSE, "Important ones") legend (locator(1), border=NILL, fill=NILL, "Important

legend
I think I'm missing something tonight in the usage of 'legend': plot(0, type="n") legend(locator(1), month.abb[1:5], pch=15, col=1:5) gives me something similar to what I want. But legend(locator(1), month.abb[1:5], fill=T, col=1:5) gives me 5 black boxes. What am I doing wrong? Thank you, > version _ platform i686-pc-linux-gnu arch i686 os

pch with plot and legend
I'm trying to plot a scatterplot of two variables using pch to plot different characters based on a third factor. Here is my example > data("ToothGrowth") > attach(ToothGrowth) > levels(supp) [1] "OJ" "VC" > plot(len ~ dose,pch=as.numeric(supp)) > legend(locator(1),pch=as.numeric(supp),legend=levels(supp)) The command as.numeric(supp) returns 2 2

Caller id and the number of rings
Hi all, I have the following setup PSTN -> ASTERISK -> IVR (using dialogic card) 1) Caller id information is presented to asterisk during the first and second ring. 2) Hence, Asterisk waits for 2 rings before pickup the call and forwarding to the appropriate FXS port. 3) The IVR application also waits for 2 rings before picking up the call to get the caller id. 4) Hence any caller

assign same legend colors than in the grouped data plot
Dear community, I've plotted data and coloured depending on the factor variable v3. In the legend, I'd like to assign properly the same colors than in the factor (the factor has 5 levels). I've been trying this but it doesn't work. plot(var1, var2, xlab = "var1", ylab = "var2", col =var3 , bty='L') legend(locator(1),c("level 1 var3",

Legend placement in barplot?
This has been asked before, but all the answers are hidiously complex. The legend.text=TRUE option of barplot is almost exactly what I need, except I need a legend.placement='tl' (top left) option. This option would be in contrast to the default placement which we could call 'tr' (top right). Anyone know how to edit the barplot code to make this change? Could someone like me

problems with nested loop
Hi, everyone: R is new to me. I am writing a nested loop to simulate data for t-test. The following code is wrong. The subscript is out of bounds. Could anyone tell me how to revise it? Thanks, Riddle Chin. result<-matrix(ncol=5, nrow=1000) colnames(result)<-c('N=20','N=40','N=60','N=80','N=100') for (i in 1:1000){ for (j in

legend idea for latticeExtra
Dear list, I've written a small utility function to add arbitrary legend(s) to a lattice graph (or a combination of them), much like the legend function of base graphics. I though perhaps it could be useful to someone else, or improved by suggestions. I understand this goes against the lattice paradigm somewhat, in that you short-cut the link between group variables and the

Lattice: choice of symbol and symbol position in legend
I am making final adjustments to a multi-plot figure using basic and lattice. In the lattice plot, I would like to include a legend that matches the format of the legends in the other plots, which consist of appropriately colored squares (pch 22) followed by text. In lattice, I was able to get a legend using auto.key = list(x = .6, y = .6, corner = c(0, 0), pch=22) but my request for pch=22 was
