What do you call the value that represents a missing argument?
Hi all, What's the official name for the value that represents a missing argument? e.g. formals(plot)$x str(formals(plot)$x) deparse(formals(plot)$x) is.symbol(formals(plot)$x) What's the correct way to create an object like this? (for example if you are manipulating the formals of a function to add an argument with no default value, as in http://stackoverflow.com/questions/3892580/).

How do I reliably and efficiently hash a function?
I?ve got the following scenario: I need to store information about an R function, and retrieve it at a later point. In other programming languages I?d implement this using a dictionary with the functions as keys. In R, I?d usually use `attr(f, 'some-name')`. However, for my purposes I do not want to use `attr` because the information that I want to store is an implementation detail that

Subsetting the "ROW"s of an object
Hi all, Is there a better to way to subset the ROWs (in the sense of NROW) of an vector, matrix, data frame or array than this? subset_ROW <- function(x, i) { nd <- length(dim(x)) if (nd <= 1L) { x[i] } else { dims <- rep(list(quote(expr = )), nd - 1L) do.call(`[`, c(list(quote(x), quote(i)), dims, list(drop = FALSE))) } } subset_ROW(1:10, 4:6) #> [1] 4 5 6

Collins Master Dictionary (closer yet)
Hey, thanks for all the help, the "Desktop"="800x600" line in the .conf file helped a lot, the elements within the window don't dissappear anymore. Thanks! :) Only one little glitch is keeping the program from being useful: The dictionary doesn't use a standard 'search' field and button as one might expect, instead, all of the entries for the selected

dictionary attack defense
Does dovecot have any dictionary attack defenses yet? In the past I have had to implement defense from outside dovecot, but since dovecot is at the front lines and therefore is the first to know I'm hoping by now there is something we can set. For example, a limit on access failures per minut/hour/day or some such. If not why not?
