histograms resulting from call to soil.texture
Hello, Using the dataset below I produce a soil.texture plot (R code for this included at the end). One will notice I have plotted the points based on whether or not they are in a region called 'upstream' or 'downstream'. I'm curious if there is a way to somehow extract counts of the number of points (red points and blue points) falling within each classification (e.g. silty

relating data in two data frames
Hi, My data.frame "A" has FID like this FID a a b b b c c d d d d Now my second data.frame "B" has age value for a, b, c, d like FID Age a      5 b      7 c      9 d      3 How can search for the Age column in "B" and replace the values in "A" so that my new "A" looks like this FID Age a      5 a      5 b      7 b      7 b      7

Same color key for multiple lattice contour plots
Hi all, I'm trying to make multiple lattice contour plots which have the same color key, to allow good comparisons. However, I run into some problems when fitting the plots to the color key. Basically my strategy to tackle this problem was: 1) define a color key for all plots; 2) calculate the variable range for each plot; 3) calculate the range of colors from the color key that correspond

Adonis and nmds help and questions for a novice.
Hi, forgive me if someone has already posted about this but I have had a look and cannot find the answer, also I am very new to R and been getting the grips with this. I have been trying to use Adonis to find out if there are significant difference between groups on data that I have analyses with NMDS, and have been struggling with getting this to work and understanding what is going on. I am

Ternary or Triangular Plots (soil texture triangle plot)?
Hi, I am trying to create a triangular plot to show the 'composition' of a set of items with three variables (historically the percent sand, silt and clay in soil). So far I have tried the 'soil texture triangle plot' in the package plotrix and the 'ternary or triangular plots' in the package cwhtool (cwhmisc). Both have strengths and weaknesses, but neither has a

Re: normal distribution in samples of soil organisms.
Hi, You didn't specify the satistical model you are intereted in, I will suppose it is something like: #Organims ~ Landscape + Soil + Depth + Species I suppose you have a table of with something like... Spec Lands Soil Depth #Organisms A 1 1 1 10 A 1 2 1 2 B 1 1 1 0 B 2 2 2 2 ... etc, Normally, the count of organisms in soil samples follows a posisson distribution, not a normal one.

problems with method ken.sto in package soil.spec: subscript out of bounds
Hi All, I would like to use Kennard-Stone algorithm for splitting a dataset. > mydata <- read.csv(url("http://www.ats.ucla.edu/stat/r/dae/binary.csv ")) > library("soil.spec") > ken.sto(mydata,per.n=0.3) Error in ken.sto(mydata, per.n = 0.3) : subscript out of bounds I found that other people run into this problem as well:

help! kennard-stone algorithm in soil.spec packages does not work for my dataset!!!
http://r.789695.n4.nabble.com/file/n3031344/RSV.Rdata RSV.Rdata I want to split my dataset to training set and test set using kennard-stone(KS) algorithm, it is lucky there is R packages soil.spec to implement it. but when I used it to my dataset, it does not work, who can help me, how reasons is it, below, it is my code, and my data in the attachment.

trying to fit a thin plate spline to a triangular plot
Hi Has anyone tried to fit a thin plate spine to a triangular plot before? I'm having trouble working out a piece of code to make it possible with three axes. I have done it before with two axes. I've found a package I prefer that makes triangular plots (plotrix) using the triax.plot() function. An example of some data and the plot follows: graph.data<-data.frame(a=c(9,6.2,

Calculating percentiles from Grouped Data (gapply)
Dear R-list, I try to calculate the 10- and 90-Percentile from grouped data. Using 'lappy' it works fine but I have no success with 'gapply': df <- data.frame(test = runif(100)) df <- df[order(df[,1]),] z <- rep(1:10, each = 10) lapply(split(df, z), function(x) quantile(x, probs=c(10,90)/100)) library(nlme) gapply(as.data.frame(df), which=1, function(x)

New R-Packages: Triangle and LHS
Two new packages have been added to CRAN. The first is a simple package which provides the standard functions for a triangle distribution (rtriangle, dtriangle, ptriangle, qtriangle). The second package generates and augments Latin Hypercube Samples. Functions for generating random and optimized designs are provided. I look forward hearing your feedback and improving the documentation!

lower triangle of the correlation matrix with xtable
Dear all, mydata<-data.frame(x1=c(1,4,6),x2=c(3,1,2),x3=c(2,1,3)) cor(mydata) x1 x2 x3 x1 1.0000000 -0.5960396 0.3973597 x2 -0.5960396 1.0000000 0.5000000 x3 0.3973597 0.5000000 1.0000000 I wonder if it is possible to fill only lower triangle of this correlation matrix? Using 'dist' doesn't seem to be useful as it doesnt allow to convert this table

lower triangle
Hi, I want to compute the lower triangle of a square matrix (optionally, sans diagonal). With for() loops I can do something like this: ## 5 by 5 matrix rtn for (j in 1:5) { for (k in 1:j) { if (j != k) { ## optional rtn[j, k] <- my.func(j, k) } } } I'd like to do this with apply(). Is there some way I can do this kind of 'short-circuit'? Thanks, Mark Wilkinson

how to convert the lower triangle of a matrix to a symmetricmatrix
Sorry if this answer was already given, or if I miss the point, but did you have a look to "lowerTriangle" and "upperTriangle" functions in the "gdata" package ? # example # A<-matrix(rnorm(9),3,3) # B<-B<-matrix(NA,dim(A)[1],dim(A)[2]) # lowerTriangle(B)<-lowerTriangle(A) # upperTriangle(B)<-lowerTriangle(A) # diag(B)<-diag(A) Hope this helps,

Plot Coloured Triangle
Hi there, I'd like to plot a triangle with each point having a certain color defined and fill it with the interpolated values. The following code shall represent somehow, three points with x,y, and the "amount" of red for example... point1 <- c(1.1, 1.7, 255) point2 <- c(2.2, 1.5, 180) point3 <- c(1.8, 2.2, 60) can anybody give me a hint which methods to use to realize

triangle.class pch per factor
Hello, I am using triangle.class in ade4 package and a factor. I would like to use this graphic parameter (pch) to set a different kind of point for each group in my factor (lakes). I have tried pch=1:4, I guess it does what it is supposed to do but not what I want. I can't use colors. Thank you in advance, -- View this message in context:
