plotting mathematical notation and values substitution
Dear R-users,
I'm trying to add a title on a plot with both mathematical notation and
values substitution. I read the documentation and search the mailing list
but I was not able to solve my problem. Actually, there is a message by
Uwe Ligges on June 2003 which addresses a question very close to mine, but
the code provided doesn't work. The code is the following:

Installing RXlisp
Dear R users,
I was trying to install the package RXLisp by Duncan Temple Lang on a MDK
9.1 Linux machine running R 1.8.0 installed from a RPM.
Unfortunately I had a problem loading the shared library into R. Since
I'm a Linux newbie I was not able to solve the problem. Maybe some of
you can help me.
First of all I downloaded the source archive for Xlisp-Stat and
for the RXlisp package.

problems using lqs()
Dear List-members,
I found a strange behaviour in the lqs function.
Suppose I have the following data:
y <- c(7.6, 7.7, 4.3, 5.9, 5.0, 6.5, 8.3, 8.2, 13.2, 12.6, 10.4, 10.8,

12.0, 13.0, 14.1, 15.1)

ordering points as vertex of a polygon
Dear R-users,
Suppose I have the following x-y coordinates which give the boundaries of
a polygon:
> x <- c(5,4,5,9,6,6,4,7,10,7,10,4,10)
> y <- c(6,3,2,6,3,7,5,4,4,7, 5,4, 6)
I would like to plot the following graph:
> plot(x,y)
> ord <- c(7,12,2,3,5,8,9,11,13,4,10,6,1)
> polygon(x[ord],y[ord])
How I can obtain the above ordering (in the example an anti-clockwise

glm and overdispersion
Hi,
I am performing glm with binomial family and my data show slight
overdispersion (HF<1.5). Nevertheless, in order to take into account for
this heterogeneity though weak, I use F-test rather than Chi-square
(Krackow & Tkadlec, 2001). But surprisingly, outputs of this two tests
are exactly similar. What is the reason and how can I scale the output
by overdispersion ??
Thank you,

source() chdir does not work (PR#7940)
Full_Name: Alex Galakhov
Version: 2.1.0
OS: Linux (Debian)
Submission from: (NULL) (195.19.131.68)
After software upgrade source() does not work properly anymore. It completely
ignores the chdir= parameter. This is because is.character(file) is always false
after the assignment file<-file(file).
The fix is (written by hand in diff-like syntax, hopefully, you'll understand
it):

Minor "bug" in source()
For R v2.1.1 patched and R v2.2.0 devel:
Calling source(file, chdir=TRUE) with is.character(file) != TRUE, that
is, with 'file' as a connection, will generate an error. Example:
> file <- textConnection("cat('Hello world\n')")
> source(file, chdir=TRUE)
Error in source(file, chdir = TRUE) : Object "ofile" not found
Of course, it does not make

Possible Bug: file.exists() Function. Due to UTF-8 Encoding differences on Windows between R 4.0.1 and R 3.6.3?
Hi Tomas,
I received a report about R 4.0.0 in the knitr package
(https://github.com/yihui/knitr/issues/1840), and I think it is
related to the issue here. I created a minimal reproducible example
below:
owd = setwd(tempdir())
z = 'K\u00e4sch.txt'
file.create(z)
list.files()
file.exists(list.files())
setwd(owd)
Output:

R-beta: Time Series Analysis
I have just downloaded rsept.zip and rseptbeta.zip for Windows 95 and I
think that is a GREAT product.
1st: I want to know the differences between them.
2nd: I'm interested very much in time series analysis, but watching the
html help there is not any function (for ex. like the S-Plus functions acf
pacf and arima functions etc). If there is some pacages to plug-in with
documentation

Proposed function file.backup
Dear R Core:
In the kutils package, I wrote a function that is so handy that I would
like to ask you put it in R itself.
file.backup() will look at a file, find its last modification time, and
create a new backup with a name that appends YYYYMMDD-HHMM to the file
name. So now, whenever I worry that running write.csv or saving a graph
might destroy something valuable, I use an idiom like

un-install R 1.6 built from source
I have installed R 1.6 for Linux from source, but unfortunately, I didn't
check if the Xwindow headers were available, so I have installed it without
Xwindows capabilities. Thus, I want to uninstall it and install it again
properly with the required features, but I don't know how to uninstall R when
built from source. I would appreciate any help on this. Thanks very much in
advance!

Colored asterisk -R?
Hi folks,
when I start asterisk directly, I get a colored CLI. When connect to a
already running asterisk with asterisk -R, it's never colored, despite
I'm running both from the same console (tty). Is there a way to force
asterisk -R into color mode?
Regards,
Stefan
