Finding memory leaks?
Where are the memory leaks and what is the way to fix them? I''m working on a game that was fairly stable in terms the memory consumption and it was staying at around 200MB. Recently it has gone crazy, and unless I restart it, it goes straight up to 350-400+MB after 30 minutes-1hour. I am using Apache 1.3+fcgi in production mode. Also the dispatch.fcgi processes take a really high toll

FastCGI: comm with (dynamic) server ...../dispatch.fcgi aborted: (first read) idle timeout (30 sec)
Hello, I just did a "gem update" on my server updating to the latest version. After this none of my scripts work. In apache error log I get: FastCGI: comm with (dynamic) server "/home/user/public_html/dispatch.fcgi" aborted: (first read) idle timeout (30 sec) My only guess is that the problem is related to the fastCGI binding but I have no idea what to look for. reducing smbd memory footprint

Possible solutions to txtdrive process killing for cpu usage
Hi, I''ve just deployed a basic ecommerce site on textdrive.com. The application has been stress tested on our local development machines and appears to be running fine (no memory leaks). However, on textdrive the fcgi processes are being killed after just a few requests apparently because of cpu usage (The log says the processes exceeds 17% average cpu usage in the last few minutes)

(newbie) rails app not working after subversion integration?
hello, if anybody could please help, I''m very late with this project and have been wasting a lot of time (days and days) getting past the learning curve to get the infrastructure up (fcgi, rmagick... and now svn integration). i come from dirty-php-scripting and am a newbie at all of this :P I have a rails app that I''ve been developing locally on os x. originally I

Memory footprint
Hi Everybody, my rails 1.2.5 application runs in a linux embedded environment with serious memory constraints. I would need to know how small a memory footprint I can hope to get. I run ligthtpd with only one dispatch and I did already remove actionmailer and actionwebservice which I do not need. Currently top shows a memory footprint of 720K for lighttpd and 25M for the dispatch.fcgi process. The

memory issues -- mongrel part of the problem?
Hi. I''m a fairly new mongrel user and have a scenario that I wanted to run by you all, see if anyone''s synapses connect -- mine def. aren''t! I''m running a fairly simple rails app through a mongrel cluster (2 mongrels). This site is consistently sloooow -- memory on the server is regularly paging (and shouldn''t be). ssh-ing in and running top shows

mongrel garbage collection
Sorry, for the re-post, but I''m new to the mailing list and wanted to bring back up and old topic I saw in the archives. http://rubyforge.org/pipermail/mongrel-users/2008-February/004991.html I think a patch to delay garbage collection and run it later is pretty important for high performance web applications. I do understand the trade-offs of having explicit vs. implicit garbage

404 Error on dispatch.fcgi
I''m a java/php programmer trying out Ruby/Rails on my Dreamhost account. I followed the wiki steps to the letter (2x now) and am still getting a 404 when I hit my dispatch.fcgi. http://mydomain.com/public/dispatch.fgci Can someone give me suggestions on how to debug this problem? Here is my dispatch.fcgi file: #!/usr/bin/env ruby # # You may specify the path to the FastCGI crash log

how to reduce footprint of smbd?
Hello This is my first mail for this list, so please be considerately. I'm trying to build a tiny version of samba for an embedded device. currently im using the version 2.2 with a footprint of smbd 2.4M. Thats to much. Is there a way/patch to build smbd without everything beside file exchage? I don't need printer, swat, ldap,.... support. Just exchange. I have disabled most of the

setequal: better readability, reduced memory footprint, and minor speedup
If you look at the definition of %in%, you'll find that it is implemented using match, so if we did as you suggest, I give it about three days before someone suggests to inline the function call... Readability of source code is not usually our prime concern. The && idea does have some merit, though. Apropos, why is there no setcontains()? -pd > On 06 Jan 2015, at 22:02 , Herv?

Performance issue.. after a while
Hello, I have an project running on a dedicated server: Debian, P4 CPU 3.00GHz, 1GB RAM, ruby 1.8.4 (2005-12-24) [x86_64-linux], rails (1.0.0), activerecord (1.13.2) lighttpd-1.4.10 + fastcgi + mysql 5.0 7 dispatchers. The project is a game, so a typical user would visit 100+ pages. When the server is busiest, it gets 35-40k requests/hour. For some misterious reason after a number of hours the

setequal: better readability, reduced memory footprint, and minor speedup
I was thinking something like: setequal <- function(x,y) { xu = unique(x) yu = unique(y) if (length(xu) != length(yu)) { return FALSE; } return (all( match( xu, yu, 0L ) > 0L ) ) } This lets you fail early for cheap (skipping the allocation from the ">0L"s). Whether or not this goes fast depends a lot on the uniqueness of x and y and whether or not you want to optimize for

Finally got fcgi installed with apache. Now whe I click on "About your application''s environment" on the Rails Welcome page, it simply prints out the dispatch.fcgi script as shown below. I would appreciate any help I can get on this. I can provide other infomation if necessary. #!/usr/local/bin/ruby # # You may specify the path to the FastCGI crash log (a log of unhandled #

file_column & RMagick
Hi, I have a site where I wish to upload a resize a picture, and store it in the file system. The best solution that I have found for this so far is using file_column. This was working great, for about an hour, but all of the sudden I began to get the following error (only when i attempt to resize). NameError (undefined method `assoc'' for class `Magick::ImageList''):

Setting environment variable for Rails app?
Greetings! I''m trying to set an environment variable in Rails. Why? I can''t use RMagick unless I do so. I can do it from the shell, run irb, and then require ''RMagick'' works. So far so good. But how can I do this from my application? I''m on a shared host so I''ve put in a ticket to have something like this added to httpd.conf: SetEnv

FastCGI processes sometimes ''hang''
I am running a RoR application on Apache 1.3/RedHat 7.3/MySQL 3.1.23 (Old versions I know, but upgrading to latest versions are not practical for a number of reasons). There are 5 RoR FastCGI processes configured using FastCgiServer. What I am finding is that, after a while, some of the FastCGI processes seem to ''hang''. They no longer process requests, and the only way to

Memory Leaks with Rails 1.2?
I''ve been getting a bunch of reports about the latest Rails "leaking" memory more than before. Please fill out this survey: 1) Have you noticed an increase in memory usage with the latest Rails 1.2? 2) Have you changed anything else in your application? a) No, really, don''t be a dumbass like the lusers you hate. Go look at your svn logs and really figure out if
