running in production mode
I am running apache with mod_fastcgi on Linux - I would like to run my
app in production mode, but I could not. Following is what I have in my
httpd.conf. Can someone tell me why it does not recognize the env
variable for production? The app always runs under development mode i.e
ignores the RAILS_ENV directive.
thanks/ thila.

fcgi/suexec problem
I have a number of vhosts configured with SuexecUserGroup
to run the scripts with limited privileges and the dept. web-site on one
of them. The problem is the webmaster can't read online context help
which comes with the cms the site is using. Most help files (>2K) have
*.php.html extension. *.php and *.html scripts both work as I suspect
they should, but when it comes to *.php.html suexec

Again on Apache 2
Hello everybody.
I know, I know, another post about Apache 2, but I have looked a lot on
the internet and I haven''t found the answer to my problem.
I have a Linux Fedora Core 5 box, with Apache 2.2.2 (compiled and
installed), Ruby 1.8.4 (compiled and installed), RubyGems 0.8.11
(compiled and installed) and Rails... I don''t know what version as this

switching database dynamically based on incoming request
So I have this idea to reduce code replication in our rails setup.
Currently we have our rails app serving two distinct sites, soon to be
three. At the moment we check out a separate set of code for each site,
and configure it by adjusting the database setting and some config files
that pull in separate style sheets.
To remove this replication I''d like to have a single codebase, but

Error in dispatch.fcgi...
Yesterday, our of nothing my server went down...
Rails application failed to start properly
Imediately i started checking my logs and found quickly that something
was wrong with the dispatch.fcgi or its function.
I use FCGI, and it had been working perfectly with Apache 2.0.55, MySQL
5.0, Ruby 1.8.2 and Rails 1.1.2.
What really got me wondering was that I did nothing. One day it worked

Apache config help needed
Hi all,
I''m (STILL) plugging away trying to get rails to work under Apache2
Rails 0.9.5 Apache 2, OS Mandrake Linux 10.1
Apache is already running other stuff on /pluto/ and /localhost/ so I wish
to install a new virtual host for rails to avoid upsetting anything.
Added rails to my hosts file, and edited conf/Vhosts.conf to contain
NameVirtualHost 192.168.0.254

just installed ruby 1.8.7, rails 2.3.5 and apache 2.2.12 on ubuntu 9.10.
I have created a rails app and edited my apache config as shown below.
The Rails "Welcome aboard" page displays, but when I click on "About

fastcgi on apache
Running on Fedora Core
I have been playing with some of the tutorials and one of them had me
install lighttpd and lighttpd-fastcgi and that was much faster than
apache seems to be.
How do I get fastcgi stuff to work on apache...
I have this setup for my tutorial environment in httpd.conf

DocumentRoot /home/craig/cookbook/public
ServerName cookbook

Idle Apache+FastCGI sleeping?
Wondering: Does Apache shut down inactive FastCGI processes if it
doesn''t get any requests for a while? My app works fine if it''s being
used regularly, but it will respond very slowly to the first request
after an hour of zero traffic.
Is there a way to keep FastCGI ready all the time, even when there
haven''t been any requests for a while? We''re deploying

apache2 on red hat linux need help anyone
I''ve poured over many docs online and thought it would be wonderful to
get RoR running in 15 minutes. Well after 15 hours, I''m completely
stuck and ready to give up on RoR. I''m hoping somebody can give me
some guidance. I''ve pulled out my hair and am bald like others who
have tried to get RoR running without any luck.

Can''t get fcgi working with Apache2 on Mac OS X
I have an application that works fine in development mode under plain
old CGI and I''m trying to get it running under FCGI with multiple hours
of frustration. Lately, I am running dispatch.fcgi standalone from the
command line. It gives me a not very helpful one line error message;
Status: 500 Internal Server Error
The log file produces a not very helpful 2 line message;

apache2 / fcgi / RoR - no connection
Hi,
I''ve generated a new Rails app and dummy controller "foo" with method
"hello". I am trying to run it under Apache/2.0.53 with fastcgi, and
getting the index.html page when I hit http://localhost/foo/hello, or
for any other request (http://localhost/kdjfslkfjs). Also, there is
nothing in the rails logs, and no errors in the apache logs.

apache mysterious 404 error
Hey guys,
Just have a question about apache. Hoping to get an opinion on this.
I've just setup a site under apache 2.4.
And made sure that the document root setup in the vhost for the site I'm
serving has permissions for the apache user. Yet some of the files are
throwing a 404 error in a browser even tho they are clearly present and
accounted for on the file system.
For example,

ROR - Apache - FastCGI / Can''t see stylesheets or javascript
Folks ...
I have been porting my app from dev environment on Webrick to Apache
with FastCGI. I have the app responding and pulling up the data, but it
is ignoring the "images", "stylesheets", "javascripts" directories
located in the public directory.
I''m running Apache under Suse Linux 9.x. Here is the information that I
have in my vhosts.conf file:
