File Upload Problems
following the instructions at http://wiki.rubyonrails.com/rails/pages/HowtoUploadFiles, I am able to upload to an explicit and existing directory (i.e. c:\ror\app\public\images\photo.jpg). However, when I try to upload to a folder that does not exist, say, c:\ror\app\public\image\newfolder\photo.jpg, I get the following error: Errno::ENOENT in Images#create No such file or directory -

file upload
This is probably me having an issue with the mvc way of living.. .I''m used to perl/php scripting... I''ve got a photo blog I''m making... and in past iterations of this website, I''d just name the photos after the id of the entry. For instance: /photos/id.jpg /photos/id_thumb.jpg However, I''m having trouble finding an easy way to do this with rails.

Question about image storage and relative paths
I''m writing a website with a feature that hosts images that people upload. Right now, relative paths works within on my Windows box. So specifically, I''m able to call File.open on "public/images/somefile.jpg" and Rails/WEBrick understands that the path is relative to the home directory of the project. This means that "public/images/somefile.jpg" ends up

File upload into Mysql (using lighttpd) problem
Hello All, I''ve run into a snag. (I apologize in advance. I''m not very good at system administration.) I''m building an app that allows users to upload files. Up until now I have been storing the files on the file system, but tonight I decided to change the app so the files are stored in the database as a longblob. I thought everything was working great, until I

Upload to DB hang mentioned in wiki
I''m uploading files to a mysql database, using a mediumblob size. Following the wiki here: http://wiki.rubyonrails.org/rails/pages/HowtoUploadFiles , I got past the first mysql 500kb limitation with the max_allowed_packet = xM trick, setting it to 1000M. However, as the person at the very bottom of the wiki notes, I too cannot upload more than around 10mb. I also tried the suggested

File upload doesn''t work in production mode
Can anyone understand what the production.log file is telling me. I''ve tried playing with the permissions for the folders and it makes no difference. Every time I submit the form to upload the file I get "Application error (Rails)" which doesn''t really help. File upload directly to DB
I''ve created file upload functionality based on the wiki HowtoUploadFiles. I''m in development mode running the newest version of rails and ruby. I''m using the development WEBRICK web server. The database is MySQL 4.1. I''ve updated the max_allowed_packet setting=32M. The problem is that file uploads get stuck at sizes of 8mb or greater. Sizes below 8mb work

images from database + caching
Is the information in http://wiki.rubyonrails.com/rails/show/HowtoUploadFiles on caching images still the best way on how to cache images that are served from the database? I haven''t added time information to my image table yet, and the images are sent after every single page view (even if it''s been downloaded already). Joe

Displaying images from PostgreSQL large objects
I''ve got a bunch of images stored in a pgsql database as large objects. Currently I use a PHP script to display the images, but I''d like to do it in Rails. I followed the example of sending files/data at http://wiki.rubyonrails.com/rails/show/HowtoUploadFiles but all the images that get sent are corrupted, apparently. Image upload problem.
I''ve seen posts of a few people who have this problem, but not a single response about solving it. I can''t upload .png files, but .jpg and .gif work fine. When I upload just a .png, my action gets a StringIO object which breaks when I try to copy the upload to an absolute location. However, using multiple-field upload, as long as one of the to-upload files is *not* a .png, all

Samba FAST upload, SLOW download?!
Hi guys, I am running samba 3.023 @ Debian 4.0 Etch (Still beta, but had the same problem om Debian 3.1r3) The strange thing is my upload speed is about 30MB/s, but the download speed is about 5MB/s. I have noticed breaks during the download. (look at attached images). The server is a Opteron 144 @ 1.8 GHz with 2GB DDR and 4 SATA disks in RAID 10 configuration (this should be good enough for a

upload problem with mimetypes
I am building a flash-based uploader for rails that allows multiple files to be selected from a user''s hard drive and then put into a queue for upload. This works great except that macromedia uploads everything as "application/octet-stream". This means that displaying the newly uploaded content inline is a pain because the browser asks to download it first. To get around this I

Images and Alt Tags Acheiving Better Search Engine Ranking
Many years ago, my sister asked me to look at the Google <a href="http://images.google.com/">Images search</a> . When I first saw the page, I thought Google was offering a place for freebie photos before I realized that it was probably searching for and finding the "alt tag" text written in the HTML for website images. "Alt tags" or "alt text"

Testing File Upload error
I am trying to build some tests where a file is uploaded and than processed by file column. Perhaps I am misunderstanding the new fixture_file_upload that was introduced in 1.1 but I can''t seem to get it to work correctly. I am trying to run a functional test to make sure that a redirect is made to the appropriate page from a create action. I create an issue and the issue can
