How to write unit tests with respect to model callbacks?
Hello, I am exploring the "Testing" part of Rails, but It seems some things work differently than I thought it would. Consider the following model: class Client < ActiveRecord::Base has_one :project def after_create Project.new(:name => self.name, :is_client => true, :client_id => self.id).save end def after_update

ActiveRecord Error?
We spent a big chunk of yesterday hunting down a strange bug in one of our rails apps and created a test project to try out different theories on what was going on. The result so far is a very small test case app that perfectly reproduces the problem. The question is, is there anything *wrong* with what we''re doing here, or is it a problem with ActiveRecord? We''re on rails

1st attempt at rails testing - could really use some help...
Howdy, I''m attempting my first rails test & I could use some help... I have the test posted at http://rafb.net/paste/results/YjWkIh45.html... when I run it, the test fails, but the db table is never restored & it seems that the fixtures file was never loaded... Any ideas as to what I''m doing wrong? Thanks! -- Posted via http://www.ruby-forum.com/.

Problem updating child row from parent model
I developped a web site with Ruby on Rails, but I get a problem during the testing. I have a parent table called "orders" and a child table called "line_items". I created some data for the test in the files "test/fixtures/orders.yml" and "test/fixtures/line_items.yml". In the file "test/unit/order_test.rb" I wrote some code to test the

Agile Web Dev unit test fails with fixture instance variable
I''m following Agile Edition 1. On page 148 it suggests using instance variables named after the fixture, for example: assert_equal @version_control_book.id, @product.id When I introduce this type of instance variable into my test, I get the following error: 1) Error: test_not_owner(GroupTest): RuntimeError: Called id for nil, which would mistakenly be 4 -- if you really wanted the

NameError: uninitialized constant Addres
I created some scaffolding for an Address model and an Addresses controller. When running the functional tests for the addresses controller, I get this exception: "NameError: uninitialized constant Addres" The exception seems to start from this function: def list @address_pages, @addresses = paginate :address, :per_page => 10 end I''m guessing pluralization bug?

Funny behavior with Fixtures... on Ubuntu..
Hey Guys, I''ve got a test class that loads a bunch of fixtures. My understanding is that fixtures are reloaded between each test... and I even have the following two method calls at the top of my test class to make doubly sure... class TaskTest < Test::Unit::TestCase self.use_transactional_fixtures = true self.use_instantiated_fixtures = false When I run my tests

model validates twice in tests, produces duplicate errors
In my unit tests for my User model, I''m testing some validation cases. What is really strange, and driving me crazy, is that in the unit tests, it seems like the save method is causing my validations to execute twice, and produce duplicate error messages. This is making my tests fail (because I''m checking for the number of errors that I expect). In the web browser, only one error

duplicate search results
i''m using Ferret 0.9.0 with acts_as_ferret (the one from svn.jkraemer.net), and i''m getting duplicate results, as described in this thread: http://rubyforge.org/pipermail/ferret-talk/2005-December/000048.html is there a way to configure the indexes created by acts_as_ferret to use :key => :id, as described in that thread? i''ve poked around in the code, and had

DB not being repopulated prior to Unit test execution
I''m working my way through the AWD book and have just started the testing chapter. The first two unit tests run as expected. When I add the test for the ''destroy'' function to product_test.rb, however, I''m getting a failure I don''t understand. The error I''m getting says that in the setup method for test_update, it "couldn''t

Rails 3.0.6.rc1
ZOMG HAPPY TUESDAY (UTC-7)!!! <3<3<3<3<3 I am happy to announce that the first release candidate for Rails 3.0.6 has been pushed to rubygems.org. ## Release Candidate: What does it mean? The release candidate is very similar to what we will actually release for version 3.0.6. The reason that we release an RC is so that the community can have a chance to postpone or veto commits

Assigning to the foreign key on a belongs_to association
I''ve encountered what seems like an odd omission in the behaviour of belongs_to associations: if you assign to the foreign key attribute, it doesn''t update the associated object (or mark a previously loaded one as stale) until you explicitly save or reload it. Let''s say we have a Company model, which belongs_to :city : >> torchbox =

Test Unit Problem
Hello All, I am experiencing the following test unit error working with Rails that I can''t fathom. I have a products.yml file which holds the following test fixture for the products table: dell_pc: id: 1 title: Dell PC description: Dell PC image_url: http://.../pc_image.jpg price: 15000.00 date_available: 2005-12-31 06:53:00 I also have the following product_test.rb file to

Unit testing + instance variables
After *much* digging and playing around, I finally figured out how to unit test instance variables that are created by actions. It was more difficult than I expected. It seems like there should have been a more straight forward way to do this. Can someone enlighten me? A simplified and somewhat contrived example of what I am current doing: Thanks.
