答复: How to draw x-axis time label.
Thank you for helping me! I try the "pretty" funtion to select the x-axis position value.Then I use the "format" funtion. xax.pos <- pretty(as.numeric(x$x.name)) format(xax.pos,'%d %b %y') > xax.pos [1] 1091600000 1091800000 1092000000 1092200000 1092400000 1092600000 1092800000 [8] 1093000000 There are something wrong. I found the xax.pos has been changed to

Package under R 2.1.0: package.rds
Hi everybody, I have trouble installing my own package under R 2.1.0 (it is fine under R 2.0.1). My OS is Windows NT. I installed my package 'mag' by using menu "Packages/Install package from local zip files....". It's fine (html package description was updated). But when I typed in library(mag) it gave me error: Error in library(mag) : there is no package called

Least Absolute Deviation
Dear all, I try to fit least absolute deviation (LAD) regression with R. I couldn't find any command to carry out LAD. What I am doing now is using nlm() and setting the function argument to minimize the sum of the absolute deviation. But for some data it keeps giving out the error message: Error in nlm(absdev, b.start) : non-finite value supplied by nlm. (there is no na in my dataset.) I

Installing packages from source code
Hi everybody, I have trouble in installing packages from source code by following Section 5.1 in manual R-admin.pdf . I am using R 2.1.0 and Win NT. Following the Windows toolset section in the manual, I download the tool set package from: http://www.murdoch-sutherland.com/Rtools/tools.zip and unzip under C:\tools I also downloaded Perl (Windows Port) and installed it.

Standard error of standard deviation: bootstrap or theoretical results?
Dear R users, This is more a statistical question rather than an R question. I'd appreciate it if you can give me some suggestions. I have a sample of a time series (sample size 500, fat tail in density). I am trying to calculate the Standard error of standard deviation of a sub-block-sample (sample size 250). I take 100 this kind of sub-block-sample, randomly. For these 100 subsamples, I

(no subject)
I was using png() last week and also found it was very slow. But if you try: win.metafile('C:/temp/filename.png', width = 9, height = 10) plot(rnorm(100)) dev.off() It will speed up quite a lot. But one thing I don't understand is I always get truncated graph (I lost a bit at the right end of the plot). I make up a very long title for the graph and then I get an entire graph. I

library help files
Dear all, I am writing my small working library. I have done most of the work and it seems working well in R. The library name appears in the package list when I type help.start(). Now my problem is about the help files. I have done help file in Rd format and translated it to HTML format (I have a subdirectory (named html) with html file in it and a subdirectory (named help) with .Rd files in

Analyzing dendograms??
I have used heatmap to visualize my microarray data. I have a matrix of M-values. I do the following. #The distance between the columns. sampdist <- dist(t(matrix[,]), method="euclidean") sclus <- hclust(sampdist, method="average") #The distance between the rows. genedist <- dist(matrix[,], method="euclidean") gclus <- hclust(genedist,

Removing leading and trailing spaces (string manipulation)
Hi all, I'm running the following code to generate 40 different jpegs based on the resulting data. I'd like the file names to be 'Cluster1.jpeg', however the code write filenames like 'Cluster 1 .jpeg'. How can I get rid of the unwanted spaces? I've looked at ?format and it doesn't seem to work - at least in this context. ################### ClusCount <- 40

Pseudo R^2 for logit - really naive question
I am using GLM to calculate logit models based on cross-sectional data. I am now down to the hard work of making the results intelligible to very average readers. Is there any way to calculate a psuedo analoque to the R^2 in standard linear regression for use as a purely descriptive statistic of goodness of fit? Most of the readers of my report will be vaguely familiar and more comfortable with

Just don't do it, surely? (was RE: Retrieve ... argument values)
There have been various elegant solutions to test for the presence of a particular named parameter within a ... argument, such as if (!is.null(list(...)$ylim)) if ("ylim" %in% names(list(...))) I think I'd have to comment these lines pretty clearly if I wanted to easily follow the code in 6 months time. But I'm still not convinced it is ever a good idea to use this technique

Formatting POSIXt values in plot axis labels
Hello. I have an XYY series that I would like to graph with matplot() or some other single function that will do the trick. The X in question is a vector of POSIXt values obtained from strptime(). Is it possible to tell matplot() how to handle POSIXt x values? I have examined the examples at http://lark.cc.ukans.edu/~pauljohn/R/statsRus.html#5.22 , but would prefer not have to overlay the

Retrieving function name
Hi, Does anyone know how I can retrieve a function name, for example If I have a function f as follows: f <- function( myfunc ) { print( name_of(myfunc) ); } I want to know what I should have as "name_of" such that I could call this with : f( median ) and it would print "median" or f( my_function_name ) and it would print "m_function_name". capturing output from Win 98 shell
How can I best achieve the following (works in Splus): filenames <- dos("dir *.sasb7dat /b") What I am asking, more generically, is: how can I capture the output of a DOS command in R? I have tried using system("COMMAND.COM /c dir /b", intern=T, show.output.on.console=T) where intern: a logical, indicates whether to make the output of the command an R

Suspicious behaviour of sort on POSIXct vectors in R-2.3.0 and R-2.3.1
Hi , When I sort a vector of POSIXct values in R-2.3.0 and R-2.3.1, I get a vector of numeric values and this gets some of my code to crash (class object creation). Is that a R bug? In the mean time. I'll try to override the sort function for the POSIXct objects. Thanks, Patrick Gu?vel Head of quantitative research for electronic trading This message and any attachments (the

Problem with data.frames
Hi, I just encountered a problem in R that may easily be fixed: If one uses attach for a data.frame e.g. 10000 times and forgets detach, then R gets incredibly slow (less then 10% of the original speed). My system: platform powerpc-apple-darwin6.0 arch powerpc os darwin6.0 system powerpc, darwin6.0 status major 1 minor 6.1 year 2002
