acl_system2 undefined method `access_control''
I''ve installed acts_as_authenticated and have that working like a charm
and now would like to add the acl_system2 plugin so I can do some role
based authorization stuff.
I went ahead and installed the plugin like this:
>ruby script\plugin source http://opensvn.csie.org/ezra/rails/plugins/dev/acl_system2
Then I installed the lib and test

Problem with ACL plugin system
Don''t know if anyone else has experienced this but I''m having a problem
with the access_denied method in Ezra''s ACL access control plugin. It''s
working fine (in conjunction with acts_as_authenticated) until it comes
across a user it denies access to, in which case it throws the following
error:
NoMethodError in Admin#index

Check if a saved user''s name is admin
Hi all,
I have a question about this method in my User model:
# Returns true for the (saved) user called "admin"
def is_the_administrator
true if save and name == "admin"
end
The method returns true if the user''s name is admin. However, I only want to
return true if the state of the object is "saved", so I call the save method
first.
I''m

Ezra''s acl_system2 and flash not getting populated in functional tests
Hi all,
I am using the LoginGenerator and Ezra''s acl_system2 to protect
certain actions in my controllers. I have written some functional
tests to check for correct handling of redirects, flashes, etc. The
flashes however only get populated on the first get action in any
given test. Here is what I have so far:
In the controller:
class PageController < AC

Authentication design/ideas
Hi all,
I''m using acts_as_authenticated for the front end facing part of my
site. I have a model called Customer. I now want to protect the admin
sides of things. I am thinking of using Ezra''s acl plugin
(http://opensvn.csie.org/ezra/rails/plugins/dev/acl_system2/README)
for this. My only problem is that I don''t want the model for admin
users to be called Customer,

[JOB] at yakimaherald.com
Friends-
I have taken a new job and will be moving at the end of March. The
newspaper I currently work for is looking for someone to take my
place. I have really enjoyed working here. It is a great environment
with very nice people to work with. And the best part is you get to
develop in Ruby and Rails, for everything!
The paper is willing to accept applications from people who would

LoginGenerator - multiple user types...
I have been looking at the LoginGenerator gem. Looks great and can be
easily modified. However in my app I have two places where people can
login, one is for in my case "employees" the other is for "users". They
are seperate tables in my database and have many different fields.
I have an admin area located at ./sysadmin/ where only "employees" can
login, they

newbie before_filter question
I''ve successfully gotten acts_as_authenticated working. Currently the
before_filter line for my admin screen is like this:
class AdminController < ApplicationController
include AuthenticatedSystem
before_filter :login_required
Only issue I have now is that anyone logged in can access that screen.
I''d like to differentiate between a regular user and

Send parameter along with method in before_filter
Hello list,
I have an app that has a very simple authorization scheme. A person can have
many roles and roles can have many people.
In my app, I''d like to do
before_filter :login_required (since no role name is provided, it accepts
any users with credentials)
before_filter :login_required ("administrator") (only accepts those with
role administrator)

I''m not sure why mailman bounced your message (perhaps because you are not

Fwd: installing backgroundrb
I''m trying to use BackgrounDRb to do image processing on large
uploaded zip files of images, but
$script/plugin install svn://rubyforge.org//var/svn/backgroundrb
gives me this:
/usr/lib/ruby/1.8/open-uri.rb:88:in `initialize'': No such file or
directory - svn://rubyforge.org//var/svn/backgroundrb (Errno::ENOENT)
I can install the old version with

ez_where plugin updated features.
Friends-
I wanted to let people know that there is a new experimental release
of this plugin. I would love feedback on syntax and features. There
is now a full test suite with fixtures that covers all the available
syntax. Look at the test suite for more syntax possibilities. There
have been many additions since my last release. Fabien Atelier has
been working on this with me and has

login generator
hey all,
i''m having some pretty aggravating moments with the begining of the
installation of the acl_system(..permissions, etc) provided on
http://wiki.rubyonrails.com/rails/pages/LoginGeneratorACLSystem
...for some apparent(or non-apparent, to be exact) reason, my
application.rb won''t read the
require_dependency "acl_system"
line in the app. controller! i

trying to encode/decode videos using libtheora
I'm trying to learn how to use libtheora but I'm having some
problems:
I believe to have encoded a video, but I can't decode it. I've
tried 2 things: to record a .ogg file and to write a libtheora
decoder, using the encoded ogg_packets present in memory.
The source code is here:

Controller Inheritance
Is there any known problem in inheriting a Controller from another
controller (that is to say having an Admin::PostController <
PostController, with PostController < ApplicationController)?
It is something I haven''t seen done in tutorials or books, however in my
opinion (and as far as I can see from my tests) it should work.
