Integrating R in OpenOffice
Hi All,
A group of about 3-4 of us are looking into the possibility of incorporating R
into OpenOffice's (OO) spreadsheet component (sc) . We wish to use OO's nice
ODBC ability to query a postgresql-based gene expression database thus
populating an OO sc and then use Bioconductor via R to analyse user-selected
parts of this spreadsheet.
We've looked at and compiled and used

R and Gnumeric?
Hi all,
A hopefully quick query. I was reading a posting over at
gnomedesktop.org on the latest release of Gnumeric 1.4:
http://gnomedesktop.org/node/2090
There is a mention there:
Improved accuracy:
While Gnumeric 1.2 was already the best available source for
accuracy in statistical calculations, Gnumeric 1.4 is even
better. We are cooperating with The R Project to

Excel -> *.CSV in Unix (Linux) command line?
A colleague has a dozen of excel sheets and also expects to get updates
regularly. He could open these in M$-Excel and export as *.csv manually,
"bring back to Unix" and then read into R. Of course there must be options to
start programming this in something like visual basic,
but we wouldn't to really want to...
We also know that probably Gnumeric could do the job (since the xls

Gnumeric
Hi,
I am trying to install Gnumeric in CentOS 4 and I can't. It
complains about quite a few dependencies failing. It suggested
installing some postgresql librairies, openldap librairies... I
did that, now I still get:
dependencies failed:
libmdb/libmdbsq/libsqlite/libxbase/libtds.
Is there a yum repository that has them or a yum repository for
gnumeric?
I have tried Dag, he does not, he

Gnumeric - 1 Excel - ?
Hi all,
As happens from time to time, discussions on this list appear regarding
the use of popular spreadsheets for statistical analysis. One such
thread (post of mine) is here:
http://maths.newcastle.edu.au/~rking/R/help/03a/6326.html
While not advocating such use, these discussions have referenced
articles that provide independent reviews of these applications and
issues of accuracy, etc.

Help Choosing Start Values for nls
Hi all,
I'm trying to do a simple curve fit and coming up with some interesting
results I would like to get comment on.
So as shown below, tsR is my explanatory and response is... well... my
response.
This same data in gnumeric gets fitted with the curve "response=10078.4 +
1358.67 * ln (explanatory - 2009.07)
So I'm using nls with the start values supplied by gnumeric.

Is there in R a function equivalent to the mround, as found in most spreadsheets?
Dear R-users,
I have the following problem
In a lab experiment I have to mix three solutions to get different
concentrations of various molecules in a cuvette
I've used R to calculate the necessary ?liters for each of the level of
the experiment and I must confess that it is more useful and easier to
achieve the results than using spreadsheets.
But there's a problem.
Imagine that

R and Gnumeric
Hi,
I just read the "Embedding R in Gnumeric" idea at
http://www.r-project.org/SoC08/ideas.html. On my side, I intend to add
as many statistics related plot types to the current gnumeric charting
engine as possible. We already have boxplots and partial support for
histograms. My immediate plans are to finish the histogram code and add
probability plots

Excel files-suggested manual addition
Hi,
I had some excel files that I needed to read into R, there were alot so
I didn't want to
do them by hand in gnumeric. I tried all the recommendations in the data
import/export manuals, including RODBC,
and for some reason they all failed on these files. Then I stumbled on
ssconvert, a script that wraps
all gnumerics converters, see

qbeta function (FYI, compiler bug)
Hi there,
this is just to let you know that the qbeta function, which was
copied from R into Gnumeric, has been confirmed to be miscompiled
by gcc 2.96 on Linux. (That's Red Hat's compiler.)
This shows by qbeta(0.025,4,0.5) ending up taking the wrong
branch of "if (alpha <= 0.5)".
We compile things in a different context, so this may or may not
affect you. The qbeta

ISBN number registartion
Hello all,
I notice that the R package, the manuals and even the FAQ have ISBN
numbers. I help write the Gnumeric (GNOME's spreadsheet) manual and
wondered how you all managed to get those numbers. Also are these
numbers interrelated so that if you gain a document, its number would
follow from your existing numbers.
Any pointers to information would be appreciated.
Thanks,

Seeking advice on "introducing R"
Dear List:
This is in search of advices/opinions for a lecture presentation on R. I have this presentation scheduled on Saturday (16-October-2004); the topic is "introduction to R". The audience is a group of researchers and scholars who have either never used R/are beginning to use R, but otherwise have used a package called limdeb, and SPSS. There is also a request to cover Rgnumeric,

Vertical subtraction in dataframes
Hello all,
I have not been able to find an answer to this problem. I feel like it might
be so simple though that it might not get a response.
Suppose I have a dataframe like the one I have copied below (minus the
'calib' column). I wish to create a column like calib where I am subtracting
the 'Count' when 'stain' is 'none' from all other 'Count' data for
