Strange behaviour in plot and points?
Hello R-users I was puzzled by some strange results of an analysis and I found out what is for me a strange behaviour (I won't dare to say a bug) in both plot and points (and I suspect lines and other kind of lower level plots). If you try the following code: > data<-data.frame(dummy1=c(1:10),dummy2=c(1:10)) > plot(data$dummy1,data$dummy3) A plot of the values of dummy1 against

changing default arguments of a function and return the modified function as a result
Dear R-users, I am trying to develop a function that takes another function as an argument, changes its default values and returns a list of things, among which the initial function with its default arguments changed. An example of what i will like to obtain below: ## initial function myfun <- function(x, a=19, b=21){ return(a * x + b) } ## this is the function i will like to create ##

a problem sourcing a file using chdir=TRUE
Dear R-users, I used to give commands such as: > source(file="~/path/to/file.R", chdir=TRUE) but with the latest v. 2.1.0 it does not seem to work anymore. I tried to figure out what it was going on and it seems that the string for which > class(file) [1] "character" is changed to > class(file) [1] "file" "connection" when the connection is

[R] Problems when trying to install and load package "rzmq"
Possibly so. However, the ZeroMQ libraries do exist for Windows, so it might be possible to get the package working there. However, CRAN probably won't have the libraries, so cannot produce a binary package, and it is also quite possible that the package author is not a Windows person. At the very least, you'll need some familiarity with the Windows toolchain and be prepared to apply a

interesting note - not sure just how to take care of this one
Hello all, the dovecot -> ldap connection is working correctly but I notice something in my maillog that is disturbing: dovecot.conf in the passdb section I have passdb passwd { } then it drops down into the ldap stuff. The user gets validated via this first and if it fails passes on to the ldap stuff. the problem is: in the file the user's unencrypted password is showing up as

Issues when trying to fit a nonlinear regression model
Oh, sorry; I changed signs in the model, fitting theta0 + theta1*exp(theta2*x) So for theta0 - theta1*exp(-theta2*x) use theta1= -.exp(-1.8) and theta2 = +.055 as starting values. -- Bert On Sun, Aug 20, 2023 at 11:50?AM Paul Bernal <paulbernal07 at gmail.com> wrote: > Dear Bert, > > Thank you so much for your kind and valuable feedback. changing coordinates?
I just detected R and have, after browsing the manual, one question: I look for quite a lot of time for graphical software which allows to plot data from a table or external file _with the axes of the coordinate system changed_, i.e. the x-axis should run from top left to bottom left, and the y-axis from top-left to top-right. It is of no use to interchange the rows in the table, the

Determining Starting Values for Model Parameters in Nonlinear Regression
The cautions people have given about starting values are worth heeding. That nlxb() does well in many cases is useful, but not foolproof. And John Fox has shown that the problem can be tackled very simply too.
