Problem with virtual interface
Hello everyone,
I''m using shorewall successfully on many servers withount any problems and I''m
really happy with this great piece of software.
But now I ran into a problem with shorewall 3.0.4 on Ubuntu 6.06 running on a
vServer.
The provider uses virtual interfaces like eth0:vs01 for the customers. The
interface eth0 cannot be touched. I''ve read the instructions

grub problems
This is irritating: I've got a server I just upgraded to 5.4, then
rebooted, only to discover that it just *sits* there at the grub boot
menu. I looked at grub.conf, and uncommented hiddenmenu (which should have
been done long ago).
It *still* sits there when I reboot. Any clues, folks?

5.4 kernel versions?
Please excuse a possibly dumb question.
Prior to the release of CentOS 5.4 I believe two updated 5.4 kernels
were released as part of 5.3
2.6.18-164.el5 and 2.6.18-164.2.1.el5
Now that 5.4 is released we have just the 2.6.18-164.el5 kernel.
Now the dumb question - what happened to the updated kernel?
I now have workstations running 5.4 with the 164.2.1.el5 as they get yum
update run regularly,

Live Backup for xen image
I found that the "Save" feature is not supported for the full virtualizaed
systems in xen 3.0.4
which comes with the SLES10, and will be available in version 3.0.5. Is
there any
other way to backup a running "windows guest machine on the fly"

how to debug random domU reboot
Hi,
I just noticed one of my XEN domU''s rebooting by itself. No one was
logged in and it wasn''t under load, but just rebooted. It rebooted
again about an hour or 2 later
Is there any way to see why to see what caused this, either from domU, or dom0 ?
/var/log/messages has no indicative reason, but here it is:

Experiencing continual eth0 link up/down on a 10G Chelsio NIC (cxgb3 driver)
File Server OS: CentOS 5.3 (x86_64)
Kernel: CentOS Plus kernel (need XFS fs drivers)
The file server has a Chelsio T310 10GBASE-CX4 RNIC (rev 3) PCI
Express x8 MSI-X (eth0), driver and firmware is stock from the CentOS
Plus kernel.
Using ethtool I have verified driver association with the 3 NICs on
the system (eth1 and eth2 are not connected to any switch)

on emacs startup no fonts, just little empty boxes
Just upgraded CentOS to (uname) "Linux 2.6.18-164.2.1.el5.plus #1 SMP
Fri Oct 9 12:34:43 EDT 2009 i686 i686 i386 GNU/Linux" and since then,
when emacs (version 21.4.1) starts up (using emacs -Q), where there
should be text there are only little empty boxes, each the size of

occassional problem wtih upslog and apc ups units via snmp ... [NA] status
Os is redhat enterprise, kernel 2.6.18-164.2.1.e15
NUT is apparently 2.4.1
It was installed by tar.
Monitoring a lot of apc UPS units-mostly Smart-UPS of various flavors, also a Silcon DP380E.
Normally works just fine... "upslog" writes status log every 30 seconds with various parameters..
Every so often, one of the UPS units has a log entry of:

iscsi connection drop, comes back in seconds, then deadlock in cluster
Greetings ocfs2 folks,
A client is experiencing some random deadlock issues within a cluster,
wondering if anyone can point us in the right direction. The iSCSI
connection seemed to have dropped on one node briefly, ultimately
several hours later landing us in a complete deadlock scenario where
multiple nodes (Node 7 and Node 8) had to be panic'd (by hand - they
didn't ever panic on

What kernel source and how to download it
Hi all,
I am running CentOS 5.3 under xen on a VPS machine (so I have a limited control on the machine)
I am playing with openswan and KLIPS and I need to build the ipsec.ko kernel module.
I would need to download kernel source but I am really confused about what source I have to get.
uname -r tells:
2.6.18-128.7.1.el5xen
ls /lib/modules tells:
ls /lib/modules
2.6.18-128.7.1.el5xen

I've installed R-2.9.2 (64 bit), unixODBC-2.2.14-p2 (64 bit) and RODBC_1.2-5 (64 bit) on a 64 bit Redhat Linux server (Red Hat Enterprise Linux Server release 5.4 (Tikanga), x86_64) release 2.6.18-164.2.1.el5. I've tested the ODBC drive via isql and the test was success:

How to find out if the installed NIC supports SR-IOV?
Hi,
I am working with a westemere based server. I need to find out if the NIC
installed there supports SR-IOV - what would be the best way to determine
that?

How do I do Centos 7 p2v migration?
Hi,
I am trying to figure out how to do p2v and v2v migrations on a Centos 7 kvm
host. With previous versions there was virt-p2v but that does not seem to exist
with Centos-7.
I realize that if I am using shared storage, I can do live migrations but
that does not help with p2v migrations.
Does anyone know what the recommended procedure is for migrating either
physical or virtual machines to
