[Announcement] Google: Evil or Not?
"Google: Evil or Not?" is my first Rails webapp and I''ve just made it public at http://evilornot.info Do you still believe the ?Do no evil? Google mantra? Do you think Google Book Search, the AOL deal, and Larry and Sergey?s 767 point to Google losing it?s pristine morality and turning over to the dark side? Now you can discover what the world thinks and contribute your

count_as_taggable distinctly
I needed to count tagged records, I came up with this: <pre>def count_tagged_with(options = {}) options = { :separator => '' '' }.merge(options) tag_names = ActiveRecord::Acts::Taggable.split_tag_names(options[:any] || options[:all], options[:separator]) raise "No tags were passed to :any or :all options" if tag_names.empty?

acts_as_taggable vulnerable to attacks ?
Hi all ! I''d like to confirm if I''m reading correctly. It seems ActiveRecord::Acts::Taggable::SingletonMethods#find_tagged_with is vulnerable to SQL injection attacks: def find_tagged_with(options = {}) options = { :separator => '' '' }.merge(options) tag_names = ActiveRecord::Acts::Taggable.split_tag_names(options[:any] || options[:all],

Ruby and charting
Hi- I need to create simple charts on the fly - I had used JFreeChart in the past with inJ2EE apps. Is there any equivalent here for Ruby. My charting needs are simple: just line charts. Also if anyone has done this, pls let me know how I should go about in doing it. Thanks -- Posted via http://www.ruby-forum.com/.

Ruby + Apache Lucene using XMLRPC?
Please excuse me if this has been answered before. Is there a "how-to" guide or a walkthrough on integrating Lucene with ROR via XMLRPC? I got Ferret to work but I am worried that it''s not going to be as scalable. I highly appreciate your assistance. Thanks Frank --------------------------------- Relax. Yahoo! Mail virus

Does shared hosting work? Anywhere?
I moved a rails application to textdrive using their low-cost shared plan. Once on textdrive my app would display ''proxy errors'' periodically. Hitting reload seemed to be all that was needed to get past the proxy error. After discussions with their support people I decided the proxy errors were being caused by apache server restarts -- because there were many of us sharing one

dump and import MySQL table w/ accents
I am switching to a composite primary key (string and user ID) from the Rails conventional auto-incrementing integer primary ID. The table is large (2.5 million records) and I''d rather not discard the contents. The composite_primary_key gem doesn''t appear to support altering the table with a migration to do its magic, only creating a table from scratch. So I dumped the table

CLI and Dial
Hi! I have two Asterisk installations, one being a 1.09 bristuff installation and one 1.08 installation. In the 1.09 installation I have the "Dial" command available on the CLI, in the 1.08 installation I don't. My question is now: was that a new feature in 1.09 or is it a bristuff specific thing or is my 1.08 installation simply lacking features? Thanks, Christoph

cached_models
Hi all, Yesterday I released a new Rails plugin: cached_models. It allows to transparently use the internal Rails cache mechanism in your models, avoiding to write code for expiring policies. Example class Project < ActiveRecord::Base has_many :developers, :cached => true end class Developer < ActiveRecord::Base belongs_to :project, :cached => true end # Automatic cache, all

acts_as_taggable gem: deleting tags
I have the following quick-and-dirty hack in my model: def after_destroy # search for orphaned tags and delete them orphans = Resource.tags_count :count => ''= 0'' orphans.keys.each {|tag| Tags.find_by_name(''tag'').destroy} end It''s nice from a readable code perspective, but it seems inefficient - is there some way to do this with only one
