RDoc Dashboard Widget
Hi everyone - sorry if this is a bit OT, I''m not subscribed to the ''ruby-talk'' list, but if anyone wants to cross post this over there... This is just a quick announcement to let people know that I''ve built a basic RDoc Dashboard widget for Mac OS X Tiger. It''s still beta-ish, but seems to work okay for me - and it''s a convenient reference

Calendar date picker for use with rails.
Howdy folks, As I was putting together a rough form for a rails app, I got to thinking how much smoother (in my siytuation) a little calendar widget would be than the default date picker selects. Does anyone know if such a thing exists ? I suspect it would have to be somewhat designed with rails in mind to populate the right kind of post params for convenient use at the controller end.

tkentry that exits after RETURN?
I can set up an entry widget (thanks to an old post by Barry Rowlingson) that gets a password and exits when the user clicks on the "OK" button. Anyone have any clever ideas for returning/ destroying the window when the user types a carriage return/ENTER in the text window? I've messed around a little with validate, validatecommand, but don't see any obvious way to do it ...

join tables and position (acts_as_list)
I''m working on some schema for a new project that we''ll be doing in rails (our first rails project!). A recurring structure we are seeing is the desire to define an ordering any way we wish, so ''acts_as_list'' comes to the rescue. But, the ''position'' column seems to need to belong in the join table to make sense. For example, we have

AJAX & Partials
Hi, looking to see if I''m on the right track here... we''re selling widgets to customers, but there are a number of different type of widgets and each different type of widget has a number of parameters that the customer can specify, in effect each customer orders widget''s customised in ways particular to that specific order. We use STI to store each different widget

Need Help with StatET Error/Bug? on Ubuntu 8.10 amd64
Hi, I posted this message on the StatET-user board last week, but it looks like a ghost-town... I have a bad feeling that there is some code in the plug-in which doesn't work well with my environment, but if I am lucky, maybe other users have worked around this problem somehow - I am hoping that my setup is the issue. Note: very similar StatET setups on 32-bit XP Pro and Vista run

tk non-widget commands (esp. update and winfo)
Hi, I've been playing with the tcltk package. It's very nice to have access to buttons, menus etc. now. Thank you! Alas, I also have questions: In Tcl everything is a string [*]. This is not the case in R, of course. So why are return values of tk commands still strings? (Is there any other reason than speed or "package is work in progress"?) Example: > tt <-

Parameterized ActiveRecord Associations: Any such thing?
Hi list, how are ya? So, my current project is just begging for the ability to have parameterized associations in my ActiveRecord classes. Basically I need something that is a cross between named scopes and standard associations (has_many specifically). I''m wondering if such a thing exists or, if not, if anyone else has an elegant, equivalent solution? Example: class Sprocket <

What's the difference between mattr_accessor and cattr_accessor in ActiveSupport?
Hi, I was reading source code of mattr_accessor and cattr_accessor in ActiveSupport and found out that the method definitions are all most identical. Except cattr_writer accepts a optional block. I googled and read http://stackoverflow.com/questions/2203800/difference-between-mattr-accessor-and-cattr-accessor-in-activesupport. That guy had the same question as me, but no one answered the question

RWiki, tcltk and plot
I think I - almost - got the knack for GUI programming using the tcltk library. Maybe I will update the RWiki with this: # ################################################# # library(tcltk) # # Create some matrix - nothing about tcltk here # matrix <- cbind(rnorm(100), rpois(100, lambda=10), runif(100), rt(100, df=2), rt(100, df=4)) colnames(matrix) <- c("Normal",

Controller Spec & DataMapper Chaining
Hi there, I''m fairly new to RSpec, and DataMapper and I''m trying to write a controller spec for an index action that will include DM query chaining. Here is a very simplified version of the Controller#index I''m working on def index @widgets = Widget.all(:order => [ :name.asc ]) if params[:alpha] @widgets = @widgets.by_alpha(params[:alpha]) elsif

rails-1.0.0 gem rdoc problem
Just got a brand new install of ruby-1.8.4 and new gems downloaded, specifically rails-1.0.0. Seems rails does not generated rdoc for gem_server. Looking into the problem, it seems that there is an error when doing ''rake rdoc'' for rails-1.0.0. % rake rdoc (in /opt/local/ruby-1.8.4/lib/ruby/gems/1.8/gems/rails-1.0.0) rm -r doc unrecognized option `--line-numbers --inline-source

ActiveRecord Error?
We spent a big chunk of yesterday hunting down a strange bug in one of our rails apps and created a test project to try out different theories on what was going on. The result so far is a very small test case app that perfectly reproduces the problem. The question is, is there anything *wrong* with what we''re doing here, or is it a problem with ActiveRecord? We''re on rails

using StatEt IDE for Eclipse
Hi, I'm trying to use StatEt IDE for Eclipse as my R editor, but I'm completely lost. I've read all I could find online, made apparently all I had to do (installing rj, configuraing StatEt, etc.) but still cannot make R running. Below is the error log file. Thank you so much for assistance. Matteo !ENTRY de.walware.statet.r.console.ui 1 0 2011-12-05 16:21:51.355 !MESSAGE

Changing text in a tkentry widget
I searched the web and the list archives for a solution to this, but didn't see anything, so here goes. I'm new to tcltk. I'm trying to change the contents of a tkentry widget when a button is pressed. Once I get that working, the widget will be read only to the user. Here is some toy code: ############### require(tcltk) thisEnv=environment() tt<-tktoplevel() Name <-

Ruby on Rails: Talk | Google Groups
This is more an architectural question.... I am looking to create a domain that sells widgets (as an example) widgets.com Now I have three sales reps, that each sell different kinds of widgets, and do not need to know about each other. larry.widget.com moe.widget.com curley.widget.com I don''t want to repeat myself (of course!) with the shopping cart logic or the transactional

tcltk difficulties
Friends: I have a tcltk widget for inputting constants and other values that are needed by subsequent R functions. My widget works well. I have an OnOK function that does what I had hoped it would. Among other input items the widget also uses 6 radio buttons to select one of 6 choices. It functions as it should. Here is the problem: I would like one of the buttons to be the default and to
