[sorta offtopic] Removing bad bytes from filenames
I'm moving my Ogg Vorbis collection off of my Linux server and onto my
laptop. I plan on using iTunes to play my collection, but, that's a
whole 'nother can of worms.
I'm having trouble moving my complete collection over because dbPowerAmp
(an application I used to love) made some dumb decisions about naming my
files. For example, in track/album/artist names that contained a

Compare two 3d plots
Hi,
I am still learning and find it very helpful in my research. I have searched
before posting this and could not figure out if there is a way to compare
matrices the way i am describing below:
I have a matrix of 64 cols and 64 rows which mostly has lots of zeros but has
other non-zero positive integers (usually grouped close to each other) in the
matrix. I use persp to get a 3d plot and

Unable to log into a workgroup share after saving password in XP
HI,
I'm currently running redhat 7.3, using samba 2.2.7 on our webserver and
am using Windows XP on the desktop, logging into our domain, I set up the
sameba server to allow a specific user only to log in in the default
workgroup 'Workgroup'.
This was working fine (for around 2 weeks), but I decided to click the
save password box in windows, and for some reason everytime now, it

[LLVMdev] Valid names for symbols
What's the set of valid characters that can occur in an LLVM symbol name?
The reason I ask is that my compiler is generating symbols based on
method names. Some methods are operators, and I haven't got around to
mangling the names yet. As a result it's producing symbols that look
like _f_+ and _f_:=.
LLVM seems to be coping fine with these so far and the IR output is
quoting them,

applying complex functions by groups
Hi,
I have a matrix that is indexed by groups and looks something like this:
1 1 2
1 2 1
.
.
.
2 1 1
2 1 2
2 NA 1
.
.
.
3 1 NA
3 2 NA
etc.
The first column is the group variable and I would like to apply categorical data imputation functions to the other two columns, doing so by groups. I have tried APPLY, BY and SPLIT, but have not had much luck getting it to work. I wonder if anyone has

Trouble with expression() in R-win 2.0.1
Hi.
The following statement works fine in R-win 1.8.0, but yields a syntax
error in R-win 2.0.1 (and possibly in other versions after 1.8.0):
plot(c(1,2),main=expression(a==b==c))
I note that the following workaround executes successfully in both
versions of R...
plot(c(1,2),main=expression(a*"="*b*"="*c))
...but I don't really understand

trouble accessing mbox folders with simultaneous logins
Hi all!
I have setup dovecot (RPM) on a Fedora Core 2 machine using LDAP for
authentication. It all seems to work pretty well, except for
simultaneous logins. I am using mbox files to store the mail as follows
(from /etc/dovecot.conf):
default_mail_env = mbox:~/.mail/:INBOX=/var/mail/%u:INDEX=MEMORY
So the INBOX file is stored in /var/mail, other mailfolders are stored

[LLVMdev] the getelementptr noop problem
so i confess i'm still not clear on what the first index into
getelementptr is all about.
it makes perfect sense for an example like
getelementptr %mystruct * %reg100
to just return a %mystruct * equivalent to %reg100.
it does *not* make sense to me that
getelementptr %mystruct * %reg100, uint 0
should act the same. for look, what this speaks of to me is indexing the
first element in an

Can I put in a plea to have as much of LLVM as possible *not* require
knowledge of a single, specific architecture to work?
I have various things I would like to do that work on

Filtering ^D and PCL headers in samba print jobs under Solaris
This is my way of filtering ^D and PCL headers
out of samba jobs on a solaris 7 system.
It assumes that all your printers are capable of postscript,
and that you are using PS drivers on any printers are not PCL capable.
1) Add a declaration of pcl capability to the relevant printers:
lpadmin -p hp8000 -I 'simple,postscript,pcl'
Choose which printers you do this to carefully,

Editing the references
Hi all,
I''ve just noticed that two wiki users edited the wiki reference
documents. One of these edits (to the function reference) was a good
edit but would have been overwritten if I did not find it. The other
edit (s/darwinports/macports/g) made the documentation incorrect,
since the provider actually is called darwinports (even if that
itself is a bug).
I haven''t

I noticed the following fortune in R 2.7 and 2.6.2:

Just wondering, what function and library gave this detailed prediction?

Formatting POSIXt values in plot axis labels
Hello.
I have an XYY series that I would like to graph with matplot() or some
other single function that will do the trick.
The X in question is a vector of POSIXt values obtained from strptime().
Is it possible to tell matplot() how to handle POSIXt x values?
I have examined the examples at
http://lark.cc.ukans.edu/~pauljohn/R/statsRus.html#5.22 , but would
prefer not have to overlay the
