A Ruby/Rails bibliography
Howdy all, I''ve noticed an influx of "What book should I buy?" questions lately, so I thought I''d put together a number of bibliographies/curriculums based on experience, role, and so on. You can view them at: http://blog.mrneighborly.com/2007/10/ruby-and-rails-bibliography-of-sorts.html I want this to be a resource to point people to, so if one of these becomes out

dcov (the documentation analyzer for Ruby code) v.0.1.0 released!
I pushed version 0.1 of my Google Summer of Code project -- dcov -- to RubyForge yesterday, and I hope you guys can take advantage of it (and let me know if it breaks! :)). dcov is a tool to help you analyze the documentation of your Ruby code. At the present, it only checks for the presence of documentation and generates a report based on that, but in the future it will check for

Erase the source file open; specify a tempfile name option
I'm curious how to go about submitting a suggestion that affects both the original BSD version and the portable release. A few days ago I sent off a BSD-relative patch to openssh at openssh.com. Is this the right thing to do? I didn't hear anything back, but it's only been 3 days, so I'm probably just being too antsy. In the meantime, maybe someone else out there would like to

Branchable migrations -- A plugin to let you organize your migrations
I just put a new plugin named branchable_migrations on Github. Branchable migrations lets you separate your migrations into "branches" (i.e., a director under db/migrate) that each have their own version. Using the forthcoming UTC timestamped migrations and this plugin, you can separate migrations by table or feature. Doing so should alleviate many of the problems that seem to pike up

ACLs, NT_STATUS_ACCESS_DENIED, etc.
Hey, all. I've got some irksome issues, and would love it if someone could show me where I'm going wrong. First and foremost, I can access the folders, create new ones, etc. But copying stuff from an existing Windows share (with ACLs), not so much. Likewise when I try to assign permissions. I wind up with stuff like [2010/12/01 02:56:34, 0]

Keeping Camping going
Hello all, I''m not sure who Camping''s steward is at this point(zimbatm? _why?), but I haven''t seen much activity in quite some time. I really like Camping, and I understand open source projects can fall by the wayside. So, I''d be willing to take over maintenance and releasing. I have experience maintaining my own open source projects, and a history of

Sipura support down the tubes
I had a problem in the past with a SPA-3000 acting funny that Sipura helped me with by telling me how to factory reset it. They responded in less than a day to my email request and the unit has worked fine since. I've had similar turn around on requests related to a batch of SPA-841 phones. They were all handled by real people who appeared very knowledgeable on the products. This appears

Growth rate determination using ANCOVA
I'm a programmer in a biology lab who is starting to use R to automate some of our statistical analysis of growth rate determination. But I'm running into some problems as I re-code. 1) Hypotheses concerning Slope similarity/difference: I'm using R's anova(lm()) methods to analyse a model which looks like this: growth.metric ~ time * test.tube I understand that

MTBF of Ext3 and Partition Size
Hi All, On several of my servers I seem to have a high rate of server crashes do to file system errors. So I have some questions related to this: Is there any Mean Time Between Failure ( MTBF) data for the ext3 file-system? Does increased partition size cause a higher risk of the partition being corrupted? If so, is there any data on the ratio between partition size and the likely hood of

[OT] autoconf - use existing libs or compile own
I'm building a small library that uses a handful of Lapack functions (dstevr and its dependants). Since not everybody has Lapack installed, I thought it might be neighborly to provide these routines, so folks could compile them if needed. However, if they've got Lapack it makes sense to use the existing libraries, as these may well be optimized to the local machine. Is that a good way

It worked fine with Windows - is there something I can do to rectify this? I do not understand all the components in a system such as what DLL, kernels etc are, so please describe what I can do if

Trouble with gridBase and inset plots
Dear All, I ma having a trouble in generating a figure containing 3 insets with the gridBase package. I always get an error message of the kind: Error in gridPLT() : Figure region too small and/or viewport too large No matter which parameters I choose. The plots works nicely with two insets only, but when I try adding the third one, my troubles begin. I am probably doing something wrong in the
