Resize uploaded image file without creating temp file?
Hi, I need to take a single uploaded image file and save three resized versions of it, a thumbnail, normal and large version. I was planning on doing this in my model by having an array of geometry strings and looping through them, each time saving a new image object resized to the correct geometry. I know that file column does similar stuff, but I would prefer to have a separate database row

file_column - how to test for empty column?
I am using the excellent file_column, but have run into an issue. I am wanting the user to be able to *not* upload an image if they so choose. Then I am trying to determine if that column is empty or not, and display a generic image if that column is empty. I have tried both of the following code blocks: <% if @newsentry.image -%> <%= link_to(image_tag((url_for_image_column

File_Column Development Dead?
I''m curious if anyone knows if development on the file_column plug in is continuing? I''ve seen some SVN commits from awhile back but no binary releases. Did Sebastian speak at Canada on Rails? Anyone catch that? What is the future of file_column?

Validation with has_many
I have two problems. I have a comment that has_many uploads. Before saving the comment, I want to be sure that the upload(s) has passed validation, but I also need to validate in other ways. For example, I do not want to save the comment if there is no comment or upload. Or, I do not want to save the comment if the image has been uploaded previously (comparing md5s with past upload md5s

file_column Trying to Create Thumbnails of Non-Image Files??
Howdy. We use the handy file_column plug-in in some of our apps. We have a model with a file field and we upload both images and non-images into this field. It is specified as follows: file_column :file_uri, :magick => {:versions => {:thumbnail => {:size => ''200x''}}} Well, it works great for images but for non-images, the save fails. The root cause is an

Problem with file_column plugin path and application_helper.rb
Hello, I upgraded my Rails app from 1.0 to 1.1.2. Basically everything worked on my development box. When I uploaded the changes (including the frozen 1.1.2 gems) to my webhost most things worked. However I had a problem with my application_helper.rb file. It wasn''t able to find the url_for_image_column method from the file_column plugin. Here''s the relevant code in

Resizing images and creating thumbnails
Hi, 1. How to resize an image uploaded by a web form before saving it to the disk? (i need all uploaded images to have similar size) 2. How to create thumbnails? Is it enough if i specify small size of the image in html or would the image look horrible? Can i do it somehow in ''realtime'' using javascript? Or is it best to create thumbnail as a separate file? 3. How to get

file_column
I use file_column and it works fine. I tried to change the store_dir to a the path I want my files to be stored and not the default. I stored some images fine. But when I try to reach my images it seems like file_column uses the model_name/attribute_name on the image and not the store_dir I used. How can I change this ? Thanks in advance -- Alexander Antonakakis

file_column and HABTM
I have several models that will be using file_column by way of the "Picture" class (HABTM). Right now, all pictures are stored in: public/picture/image/1/filename1.jpg public/picture/image/2/filename2.jpg Is there a way I can dynamically define the "store_dir" based on the model? For example, if I have "user", "product" and "place" models all

samba over internet slow with images/thumbnails
Hello, Iam providing access to many images on a share to windows users from my linux samba over the internet. The problem is that I need thumbnail viewing because of the nature of this library and thumbnails take to much time to load it seems as though it is actually loading the entire image to then display the small thumbnail. file_column and versions acting up...about to spit blood and kill people. please help.
Hey railsers...anyone run into this problem? I''m developing an app which I''m deploying with Capistrano. That being said, I''ve stuck all the file_column goodies in public/system/... During my deployment script I chmod -R that directory and everything in it to make sure www-data (the apache user/group) has access to it. In development mode on my Macbook I can upload
