Another DRY question
I have some code working that lists only items from a particular user. The code in my list action finds the user and then conditionally lists only his/her items: def list user = User.find(session[:user]) user_id = user.id @product_pages, @products = paginate :products, :per_page => 10, :conditions =>[''user_id = ?'', user.id]

Showing current user''s information and saving
Hi, I am logging users in and keeping them in session. The problem I am having is showing only a certain logged in user''s information. In the Adverts_Controler: def show @advert = Advert.find(params[:id]) end I am also having issues with saving an advert for an user: def create @advert = Advert.new(params[:advert]) if @advert.save flash[:notice] = ''Advert

User Authentication
I''m trying to create a simple authentication system but am failing miserably. I''m (sort of) following the "Logging In" chapter of the Agile book. Ideally, any access to http://example.com/publish (and any of its subdirectories) should redirect to http:/example.com/publish/login when there is no valid session user_id. Code so far:

Abstracting ownership verification out of Controller
Right now I have a controller for "events" that belong to a specific user. I only want the creator to be able to edit or delete the event. I''ve got the proper foreign keys set up. I''ve finally arrived at the point where I can take baby steps with code, but looks like my first steps are in flagrant violation of the DRY principle. Here''s what I have so far in

Set instance variable for all actions in the Controller
Can I set an application wide instance variable that is available for all actions...and their views? eg. class ApplicationController < ActionController::Base @current_user = User.find(session[:user_id]) end and everywhere I can call @current_user.id and I can get that object? Even down in the views? I could not get this to work... Thanks in advance, Jeff -------------- next part

Relationships... not the personal kind!
Hello all, I''m very new to Rails and I love it so far. However, there are some things that aren''t so clear to me. Let''s say a blog post can have many comments, and a comment can only belong to one post. A user can have many posts and many comments as well. (this part makes perfect sense): class Comment < ActiveRecord::Base belongs_to :posting belongs_to :user

Sharing code between some controllers? Staying DRY
Hi, I have four controllers: one for the store front and three for the store admin. In each controller I have copied and pasted exactly the same code. It is a method called redirect_to() to override Action Controller''s redirect_to(). Copy and paste is bad. I can think of two options but I don''t know how Rails will feel about them. Option 1: Can I create an intermediate

Difficulty using correct moldel for the data in DB
Hi everyone, I''ve tried posting the same question to the list last Friday but somehow did not see it being posted.. I''ve just started with Rails and Ruby. I just started to play one of those RPG and to get my feet wet I''m writing an app to keep track of item fusions. So the scoop is that item can be fused with another items to create a higher level item. The higher
