Mention about an open source image editor
Some days back there was a mention about an open source image editor
that people uses for application layout designing. I have forgotten
about the name of that software.
Can someone send me the link?

Design Question
I am sure some of you can give me an insight into this. This is more
towards the database design for the scenario below:
Say for example,
I have a person table and this person can have different address types.
One could be Home and the other could be say Office.
Should be model this
Table people
id
fname
lname
Table addresses
id
person_id
addr1
addr2
....
or
Table people
id
fname
lname

Trying to understand the difference between similar iterators
What''s the difference between these two?
Objective:
Trying to display the addresses of the students that has "has_many"
relations with addresses
<td><% @student.addresses.each {|address| "Address:
#{address.addr1}<br/>"} %> </td> ****** did not work
<% end %>
This code worked:
<td><% @student.addresses.each do |address|%>

Inserting the parent Id to the child table
Hi All,
I need your suggestions for the following. I am still learning RoR and
pardon my ignorance.
I have say two tables.
Table A : students
Table B : addresses
Table B has student_id as the foreign key to Table A
If I am displaying the list of students and wanted to get individual
students addresses based on their id, is the only option is to get the
id from students controller method list

Explanation on Activerecord Associations
A while back, I had some doubts on the use of associations. I still
haven''t got a satisfactory guidance so that I can spring ahead with the
project. I am trying to understand from a ruby point of view on doing
things. Basically I have a controller that gives me a list of students.
And each student may have say home address and mailing address. Hence I
can model as shown below. How do I

Question abt redirect_to..
I found a reference to using attachment_fu and followed the lead of it
but having an issue with the redirect_to that renders the fb:render
tag - In my form I''m setting the canvas to false, file is being
uploaded / save fine but when I attempt to redirect:
redirect_to :action => :new, :canvas => true
Unfortunatly it looks like my callback URL is getting printed twice, e.g.

Question: coding protected methods
Apologies first, because I need to ramp up on Ruby and coding Ruby in Rails,
however it''s my 3rd day with this beast :) so I''m asking :
When I added protected methods to the model before it was like:
protected
method....................
end
Would this be a valid way to write a protected method as well ?:
attr_protected :column1, :column2
Perhaps this particular call

Is Rails Appropriate for our Project?
I realize this subject is redundant for this community, but I''m hoping
the Rails community can provide me with some additional ammunition to

The Situation:
I''m the lead architect at a large bay area retailer. My team and I are

Multiple FB apps in a single Facebooker app?
May seem strange but I''ve gotten a couple requests from clients [2 out
of 4] abt this.. generally the requirement is that they want to serve
up slightly different content but from more or less the same app.. I
dug into init.rb and determined that its seems likely with some
rearranging of facebooker.yml config - is there anything else of the

accessing a data frame with row names
Readers,
I have entered a file into r:
,column1,column2
row1,0.1,0.2
row2,0.3,0.4
using the command:
dataframe<-read.table("/path/to/file.csv",header=T,row.names=1)
When I try the command:
dataframe[,2]
I receive the response:
NULL
I was expecting:
row1 0.2
row2 0.4
What is my error with the syntax please?

number of pairwise present data in matrix with missings
is there a smart way of determining the number of pairwise present data
in a data matrix with missings (maybe as a by-product of some
statistical function?)
so far, i used several loops like:
for (column1 in 1:99) {
for (column2 in 2:100) {
for (row in 1:500) {
if (!is.na(matrix[row,column1]) & !is.na(matrix[row,column2])) {
pairs[col1,col2] <- pairs[col1,col2]+1

RoR presentations
Hi,
I was wondering is there any editor that can do autocompletion as shown
in the tutorials on the RoR website in the windows or linux environment.
If not do any one has sharable macros that comes with textpad or any
other editors.

Function to read a string as the variables as opposed to taking the string name as the variable
I am writing a custom function that uses an R-function from the
reshape package: cast. However, my question could be applicable to
any R function.
Normally one writes the arguments directly into a function, e.g.:
result=cast(table1, column1 + column2 + column3 ~ column4,
mean) (1)
I need to be able to write this statement as follows:
result=cast(table1, string_with_columns ~

Active Record HELP!!!!!
Hello,
Can someone kindly tell what the heck creating a relationship does in
active record?
I understand the idea of joining the tables and such. But how do I use
it? Is it available in a scaffold? How about when I want to view a
record and want to see all the joined data from the other table? Do I
have to manually code the data I want from the other table? Does this
automatically make the
