lme4 install error
Dear all, I'm trying to install lme4 (after having installed R 2.4.0 from source, and having installed the latest Matrix package). lme4 fails with the following message: pedigree.o definition of _lme4_xSym in section (__DATA,__common) pedigree.o definition of _lme4_ySym in section (__DATA,__common) make: *** [lme4.so] Error 1 ERROR: compilation failed for package 'lme4' ** Removing

lme4 package: Fitted values and residuals
Dear all, I have three concerns: 1) I am running models with the lme4 package. I cannot find a way to pull out a vector of the fitted values and the residuals. Does anybody know how to do it? 2) How can I nest a random effect variable into a "two-level" fixed effect variable? 3) Suppose I have the following model: y = a + b|c + d + error, where 'a' is a fixed effect, 'c'

Incompatability of lme4 and Matrix packages
I just installed R 2.4 on a windows machine and installed the lme4 package version 0.9975-1. Unfortunately this version requires the 0.9975-2 version of the Matrix package which I cannot seem to find. It seems the newest version I can find is 0.9975-1. Is there somewhere I could find this newer version. Mark Lyman

[R-pkgs] New versions of Matrix and lme4 packages for R-2.4.0
Thanks, Douglas. It works. Only one gripe. Every time I want to try a new version of your software, I have to get, compile, patch the latest bleeding edge version of R as well: ERROR: This R is version 2.3.1 package 'Matrix' needs R >= 2.4.0 Douglas Bates wrote: > Versions 0.9975-1 of the Matrix and lme4 packages will soon be available on > CRAN for use with R

Confused about loading other packages from a package
In my package, I create a new method for plot with the following signature: setMethod("plot", signature(x="marrayNorm", y="formula"), plot.ma) where marrayNorm is a class defined in the marray package. Defining a method in two packages
The coxme package has a ranef() method, as does lme4. I'm having trouble getting them to play together, as shown below. (The particular model in the example isn't defensible, but uses a standard data set.) The problem is that most of the time only one of lme4 or coxme will be loaded, so each needs to define the basic ranef function as well as a method for it. But when loaded together

CRAN versions of lme4/Matrix don't appear to work with R 2.1.1
I am currently using R 2.1.1 under Windows and I do not seem to be able to load the current versions of lme4/Matrix. I have run 'update.packages.' I understand this is still experimental software but I would like access to a working version. Thanks. x86_64, acml-3.5.0-gfortran64 and lme4
I am encountering segfaults when checking the lme4 package on an Athlon64 system if I use the acml blas. R was built as a 64-bit application using the GCC 4.0.3 compiler suite including gfortran. The version of acml is 3.5.0 gfortran64. I do not encounter the segfaults when I compile R with R's built-in BLAS. The errors occur in the first example in lme4 in a call to lmer. It looks like

lmer- why do AIC, BIC, loglik change?
Hi all, I am having issues comparing models with lmer. As an example, when I run the code below the model summaries (AIC, BIC, loglik) differ between the summary() and anova() commands. identifying convergence or non-convergence of mixed-effects regression model in lme4 from model output
Hi R community! I've fitted three mixed-effects regression models to a thousand bootstrap samples (case-resampling regression) using the lme4 package in a custom-built for-loop. The only output I saved were the inferential statistics for my fixed and random effects. I did not save any output related to the performance to the machine learning algorithm used to fit the models (REML=FALSE).
