How many "rollback" TXGs in a ring for 4k drives?
Hello all, I found this dialog on the zfs-devel at zfsonlinux.org list, and I''d like someone to confirm-or-reject the discussed statement. Paraphrasing in my words and understanding: "Labels, including Uberblock rings, are fixed 256KB in size each, of which 128KB is the UB ring. Normally there is 1KB of data in one UB, which gives 128 TXGs to rollback to. When ashift=12 is

ZFS fails with latest C8 kernel
As if last weekend's UEFI debacle wasn't bad enough, it now seems the latest C8 kernel (4.18.0-193.14.2) is incompatible with the current ZFSOnLinux packages (0.8.4-1). When booted to the latest kernel, ZFS is inaccessible on my C8 storage server. When I back off to the prior kernel (4.18.0-193.6.3), all is well. If a local ZFS system is unavailable to the C8 kernel support folks,

ZFS on Linux repository
Hi list, we all know why ZFS is not included in RHEL/CentOS distributions: its CDDL license is/seems not compatible with GPL license. I'm not a layer, and I do not have any strong opinion on the matter. However, as a sysadmin, I found ZFS to be extremely useful, especially considering BTRFS sad state. I would *really* love to have ZFS on Linux more intergrated with current CentOS. From

What about ZFS ?
Hi everybody, I'm looking for information about using GlusterFS with ZFS. I got information that talked about a sort of incompatibility between the both technologies because of unsupported xattr feature in ZFS. What are the latest news about this ? Thank you in advance.

ZFS on Linux in production?
We are a CentOS shop, and have the lucky, fortunate problem of having ever-increasing amounts of data to manage. EXT3/4 becomes tough to manage when you start climbing, especially when you have to upgrade, so we're contemplating switching to ZFS. As of last spring, it appears that ZFS On Linux http://zfsonlinux.org/ calls itself production ready despite a version number of 0.6.2, and

upgrade to 7.4 ZFS issue
Hi all, I have a server running 7.3 using the zfs-kmod packages from zfsonlinux.org. For the update to 7.4, I followed https://github.com/zfsonlinux/zfs/wiki/RHEL-&-CentOS: removal of all zfs - and related packages and installation of the zfs-release.7.4.noarch.rpm Afterwards, yum will find almost all packages from that repository - except for the zfs-0.7.1-1.el7_4.x86_64.rpm itself

zfs
Hi, folks, testing zfs. I'd created a zpoolz2, ran a large backup onto it. Then I pulled one drive (11-drive, one hot spare pool), and it resilvered with the hot spare. zpool status -x shows me state: DEGRADED status: One or more devices could not be used because the label is missing or invalid. Sufficient replicas exist for the pool to continue functioning in a degraded state.

Checksum Algorithm
Hi, We have seen a huge performance drop in 1.6.3, due to the checksum being enabled by default. I looked at the algorithm being used, and it is actually a CRC32, which is a very strong algorithm for detecting all sorts of problems, such as single bit errors, swapped bytes, and missing bytes. I''ve been experimenting with using a simple XOR algorithm. I''ve been able to recover

ZFS
> Maybe you can tune ZFS further, but I tried it in userspace (with FUSE) and reading was a almost 5 times slower than MDADM. That alone is meaningless. MDADM with which filesystem? Zfsonlinux does not work in user space, it is a kernel module. Just try it.

ZFS for Linux?
Hello, A college friend of mine is using Debian Linux on his desktop, and wondered if he could tap into ZFS goodness without adding another server in his small quiet apartment or changing the desktop OS. According to his research, there are some kernel modules for Debian which implement ZFS, or a FUSE variant. Can anyone comment how stable and functional these are? Performance is a

include/exclude problems
Dear Wayne, I am using rsync to synchronize my working files from home computer to the work computer. I want to sync only the files in some directories and no .files. However, I do need to sync several files from .mozilla director (addressbook, calendar and bookmarks) which are located in the .directory. I use the following command and the "excluded-utk.txt" file rsync -aunvz

ZFS, COW, write(2), directIO...
Hi ZFS Team, I have a couple of questions... Assume that the maximum slab size that ZFS supports is x. (I am assuming there is a maximum.) An application does a (single) write(2) for 2x bytes. Does ZFS/COW guarantee that either all the 2x bytes are persistent or none at all? Consider a case where there is a panic after x bytes has gone to disk and the change propagated to the uber block. Do

2 passwords when loging from Windows 98 to samba PDC
Hello. I have setup a local network where Windows 98 workstations authenticates against a samba server PDC running on linux, and it is working. But there is a little annoyance: Windows 98 is handling 2 passwords: 1) the network password (used with the samba PDC) 2) the windows password (used with the Windows desktop) Windows users can change their passwords from the workstation, but the

R helps win competitions
DeaR ComRades, This is a quote from a News article in Science's 11-February issue, about competitions to model data: "For Chris Raimondi, a search-engine expert based in Baltimore, Maryland, and winner of the HIV-treatment competition, the Kaggle contest motivated him to hone his skills in a newly learned computer language called R, which he used to encode the winning data model.

add keys and certificate to forwarded agent on remote host
Apologies if this post is inappropriate to this list; please redirect me if so. Our team uses ssh extensively for server access and maintenance (Debian). An issue is acting as root when operating, for example, over ansible and keeping a record of who performed the actions, something ssh certificates solves well. The problem is then to automate certificate issuance since it would be pretty
