Quantum scalar i40 tape partitions
Hi All, I have a Quantum scalar i40 tape library. I need to configure it to TWO tape partition libraries, e.g., library_a and library_b, so that each library has its own tape drive. Then connect this physical tape library to two different CentOS servers so that each server can see its own media changer and tape drive. I once had a successful configuration on one host but NOT on the other. One

recommended SSL-friendly crypto accelerator
Hi, I'm pondering building my own SSL accelerator out of a multi-CPU FreeBSD system and a crypto accelerator. What's the recommended hardware crypto accelerator card these days? Very slow execution of programs from a SAMBA share
Hi. I've run into a significant performance problem, where Samba shares are fine except for programs executed from the shares, which take about 100x longer to launch than expected. Copying local Windows directories with large files to the Samba share is getting 30 Mbytes/second. However, trying to run programs from the same samba share is taking 30 seconds to 5 minutes to launch the

wine, wineserver, and x.org using 100% of CPU
Hi, I installed Wine 20050111 on my FreeBSD 6-current (freshly updated yesterday afternoon) to play SimCity 2000. Whenever I start the program with "wine SIMCITY.EXE", the various start-up pop-ups appear, as well as the dialog asking if you want to start a new city, open an old city, etc. I get the side toolbar. The main window where you play the game is never drawn, however; it

[LLVMdev] Runtime linker issue wtih X11R6 on i386 with -O3 optimization
I was told that my writeup lacked an example and details so I reproduced the code that X uses and I was able to boil down the issue to a couple of lines of code. Sorry again for the length of this email. Code was compiled on OpenBSD with clang 3.0-release. ======================================================================== With -O0 which works as X expects:

portaudit
Any reason why portaudit and its associated infrastructure was not announced to this list or security-notifications? I recently discovered it, and discovered the feature was added to bsd.port.mk in the beginning of feburary. Seeing as the security officer apparently (without announcement) no longer issues security notices (SNs) for ports, I am assuming that portaudit has replaced SNs entirely,

CentOS 5.3 host not seeing storage device
Maybe one of you has experienced something like this before. I have a host running CentOS5.3, x86_64 version with the standard qla2xxx driver. Both ports are recognized and show output in dmesg but they never find my storage device: qla2xxx 0000:07:00.1: LIP reset occured (f700). qla2xxx 0000:07:00.1: LIP occured (f700). qla2xxx 0000:07:00.1: LIP reset occured (f7f7). qla2xxx 0000:07:00.0: LOOP

Integrating Dovecot with Amazon Web Services
I did some searching in the mail archives and didn't see any discussion of integration with AWS, so I wanted to through out my thoughts/plans and see if it has been done before. I am setting up my own personal website on EC2 along with an email server, and I really don't like the idea of using the disk drive as permanent mail storage. EBS is too small instance storage is ephermeral.

Administrativia: Documentation project slightly on hold (sorry!)
Hello security folks I (not so) recently asked for volunteers to the security documentation project. I got delightfully large number of volunteers! Thank you! Right now I have some personal (medical) issues to deal with, and I'll be out of town for the next 2 weeks. When I get back, we can move ahead at top speed. The project will have 3 parts. Samba 4 issues on FreeBSD 9
Hi, I have been experimenting with Samba 4 on FreeBSD 9 and after a lot of googling the core stuff is working (phew). However I have a few problems, I am trying to setup roaming profiles and the tutorials suggest creating the share and then using a windows client to set the ACLs on it, however to do that the user needs the SeDiskOperatorPrivilege priv, so I [midget 23:38] ~ >net rpc rights
