Unexpectedly poor 10-disk RAID-Z2 performance?
Hail, caesar. I''ve got a 10-disk RAID-Z2 backed by the 1.5 TB Seagate drives everyone''s so fond of. They''ve all received a firmware upgrade (the sane one, not the one that caused your drives to brick if the internal event log hit the wrong number on boot). They''re attached to an ARC-1280ML, a reasonably good SATA controller, which has 1 GB of ECC DDR2 for

dialing multiple extensions
I've tried to setup multiple extension dialing - ie dial 1 number and it rings at a number of sources. For the most part its worked.... Now if someone dials 107 it rings Sip phones at 102 and 107, then goes to voicemail after 40 seconds. exten => 107,1,Dial(SIP/102&SIP/107,40|r) exten => 107,2,Voicemail(u102@pstn) exten => 107,3,Hangup exten => 107,102,Voicemail(b102@pstn)

Pfilestat vs. prstat
[Just starting out with DTrace and was hoping to get some guidance.] I have a "benchmark" program that I monitored with both prstat (prstat -mL -P <PID>) and pfilestat (from the DTrace toolkit). Prstat reports LAT values in the 0.1-0.2% range, but pfilestat reports "waitcpu" values in the 6-10%. Since those two numbers supposedly represent time waiting for the CPU,

zfs, raidz, spare and jbod
Hi. I installed solaris express developer edition (b79) on a supermicro quad-core harpertown E5405 with 8 GB ram and two internal sata-drives. I installed solaris onto one of the internal drives. I added an areca arc-1680 sas-controller and configured it in jbod-mode. I attached an external sas-cabinet with 16 sas-drives 1 TB (931 binary GB). I created a raidz2-pool with ten disks and one spare.

how to debug context switching and mutex contentions?
I''m looking for a suggestion on a good way to hunt down the source of high context switching and mutex contentions... Is dtrace the way to go now, or should I stick with something like lockstat? OpenSolaris better Than Solaris10u6 with requards to ARECA Raid Card
Under Solaris 10 u6 , No matter how I configured my ARECA 1261ML Raid card I got errors on all drives that result from SCSI timeout errors. yoda:~ # tail -f /var/adm/messages Jan 9 11:03:47 yoda.asc.edu scsi: [ID 107833 kern.notice] Requested Block: 239683776 Error Block: 239683776 Jan 9 11:03:47 yoda.asc.edu scsi: [ID 107833 kern.notice] Vendor: Seagate

memory allocation
hello! First of all thank you for all your information you give us on this sites. It is a great help to learn for example dtrace. i''ve a little script in work, which shows the cpu utilization per process in percent. this output is refreshed every 2 seconds for example. now i want to extend this script with the output of the allocated bytes of memory per process. how could i display this

ZFS RAID-Z2 degraded vs RAID-Z1
Had an idea, could someone please tell me why it''s wrong? (I feel like it has to be). A RaidZ-2 pool with one missing disk offers the same failure resilience as a healthy RaidZ1 pool (no data loss when one disk fails). I had initially wanted to do single parity raidz pool (5disk), but after a recent scare decided raidz2 was the way to go. With the help of a sparse file

prstat -Z and load average values in different zones give same numeric results
Folks, Perplexing question about load average display with prstat -Z Solaris 10 OS U4 (08/07) We have 4 zones with very different processes and workloads.. The prstat -Z command issued within each of the zones, correctly displays the number of processes and lwps, but the load average value looks exactly the same on all non-global zones..I mean all 3 values (1,5,15 load averages) are the same

Erratic behavior on 24T zpool
Well, I''ve searched my brains out and I can''t seem to find a reason for this. I''m getting bad to medium performance with my new test storage device. I''ve got 24 1.5T disks with 2 SSDs configured as a zil log device. I''m using the Areca raid controller, the driver being arcmsr. Quad core AMD with 16 gig of RAM OpenSolaris upgraded to snv_134. The zpool

What has been swapped out?
I have a SunRay server that I am looking at to determine some sizing requirements in my department. The machine has 16G of ram and 10G of swap. Currently, I have about 4G of swap used. I am wondering if dtrace/mdb can be used to find out what lwp/processes have been swapped out? Any hints? This message posted from opensolaris.org

Dtrace scripts for performance data gathering
I am looking for Dtrace scripts that can be used to collect data during performance tests. I am especially interested in IO but CPU, memory, threads, etc are needed as well. Thanks, Dave

master/config rewrite
I've finally got it to work, kind of .. It should allow you to log in, but several settings don't work yet and there are probably many bugs. Anyway, I thought I'd show this already in case someone is interested of looking how it works :) One thing I'm still wondering a bit is if I should show process names as: 32602 pts/19 S 0:00 dovecot/config 32603 pts/19 S

ZFS slows down over a couple of days
Hi all, I have exchanged my Dell R610 in favor of a Sun Fire 4170 M2 which has 32 GB RAM installed. I am running Sol11Expr on this host and I use it to primarily serve Netatalk AFP shares. From day one, I have noticed that the amount of free RAM decereased and along with that decrease the overall performance of ZFS decreased as well. Now, since I am still quite a Solaris newbie, I seem to

Question regarding performance of dovecot-1.0.15
Hi, I have a dovect 1.0.15 on my mailserver and as a Client I use offlineimap. Since some time now my mailsynchronisation got slow - I don't know exactly where the problem is, but I tried to track it down. Usually the UID-Searches are fast (according to the offlineimap-debugging) but as soon as it comes to big folders it takes a long time: [..] DEBUG[imap]: 37:15.22 < * 1
