Re: [Lrlug-discuss]emergency....file/directory recovery
We have had another instance of this.....
since I am forwarding to other lists, "this" involves a lost file, due
to accidental deletion.
in this case, we had a backup, but from the backup time, till deletion
time, a lot of data had been lost.
So, we have not enough disk space to do hourly backups,
novell allowed recovery of a lost file like this,
so:
is there a filesystem that we

Ext3 emergency recovery
I have a damaged Ext3 filesystem which fsck has not been able to
recover. If I try to mount it, I get a message like this in dmesg:
EXT3-fs error (device sda1): ext3_free_blocks_sb: bit already
cleared for block 2370866
If I try fsck on it, I get a series of messages like this:
Inode bitmap for group 0 is not in group. (block 0)

Up to group 95. Some say

XCP and VM Recovery
I have two hosts in a pool with an SR that both can access.
I can migrate VM''s between the two hosts with no issues.
BUT, if I lose the master of the pool and VMs are currently on the master. I am unable to move the VMs to the other host even after running xe pool-emergency-transition-master.
I am at a loss here.
can anyone help me out with this dilemma?
Thanks

Server entering Emergency Shell, but continues fine after pressing Enter
Update: I found a workaround to prevent entering emergency shell during boot for no reason. I've simply cleared the `OnFailure=` option for initrd-parse-etc.service (which was previously set to `OnFailure=emergency.target`).
Now the server boots successfully without dropping into an emergency shell.
This is a total hack, and I'm a little embarrassed that it's the only solution that

Ok, I was able to log in as root in the emergency shell.

Testing UK emergency dialing and LCR.
Hiyall.
Just wondering how people test your emergency dialing in the UK.
Obviously you need to dial the 999 for emergency services, but am a bit
unsure if this would go down too well with the operator with a 'sorry
just testing' call. (you do all /test/ your emergency dialing dont
you!?:-) )
As another thing, what is the correct method when using least cost
routing... If you have a

Server entering Emergency Shell, but continues fine after pressing Enter
Hello all,
I've got an odd problem that doesn't seem to be mentioned anywhere.
I have several identical CentOS 7 servers (GCE instances). I recently ran `yum update` and rebooted all of them. All the servers came back fine except one. I opened a connection to the serial console of the broken server, and was greeted with this prompt:

unmountable ext3 root recovery
After a (hardware) crash yesterday, I was unable to boot up due to
unrecoverable ide errors (according to the printk()s) when accessing
the root filesystem's journal for recovery.
Unable to recover, I tried deleting the has_journal option, but that was
disallowed given that the needs_recovery flag was set. I saw no way
to unset that flag.
Unable to access the backups (they were on a fw

In that case, I'd revert the change you made, unlock the root account so
that you can use the emergency shell, let the system boot to an

Emergency calls - forcing through on channel
Hi
Hypothetical but quite possible scenerio:
Attempted emergency 911 call but all zap channels are already in use.
Is there any way to hangup zap channels before dial(Zap/g1/911) or equivalent.
AFAIK hangup doesn't except options so I CANNOT do something like hangup(Zap/g1) to clear zap
channels before the dial statement - this is what i was hoping to do.
So what do other people do?

HVM: Emergency Management Services for W2K3 under Xen with HVM?
It''d be nice to be able to use the "Emergency Management Services" for
Windows 2003 under Xen.. apparently, to use them, however, the BIOS has to
support serial redirection. Is there any way to get the BOCHS bios to
support serial redirection? I haven''t been able to find anything.
Thanks!

How can kickstart be (re)started manually from the dracut emergency shell?
Hi,
this is a side question to my other thread regarding dracut-initqueue
network issues. Once I'm thrown into a dracut emergency shell (PXE
booted system): How can I restart the kickstart installation process
manually from there? Can I at all?
Background is, that I'd like to add some debugging output to some of the
dracut scripts and rerun the installation process to see why it

I see errors in the journalctl output.? Look into these:

What commands are available in recovery mode?
I have a CentOS VM that I messed up and it now can't find /home

What can I do in recovery mode? It won't let me modify any files,
which makes it hard to fix the fstab, so ...???

Often seeing i_blocks too large after recovery(ies)
I have many systems running current ext3 code. Some of them have
hardware problems that lead to frequent reboots, and the journal
recovery has worked excellently. However, on the periodic forced fsck
on supposedly recovered and clean filesystems, I've many times seen
fsck report that i_blocks is too large in one or more inodes.
I suspect that i_blocks is somehow escaping proper restoration
