(strange idea) unfriendly migration
Good day. As we all know, xen requires assist from VM to migrate it. If VM will acts wrong during migration, it will crash, or behave strangely until reboot (nice sample - default -xen kernel in lenny). We need to accept changes in domU during migration: other domain id, new vbd/vif and so on. This fine until we talks about friendly VM. But if VM is not very friendly? For example, VM''s

Problem with CentOS 5.1 / Xen / Migration : domU time
Hi all, I'm having issue with my Centos 5.1 /Xen installation. I'm having 2 dom0 running 2.6.18-53.1.4.el5xen (x86_64). These two dom0 are connected to a SAN. These two dom0 hosts multiple domU like Centos 4.5 (2.6.9-55.0.9.ELxenU) and Centos 5.1 (2.6.18-53.1.4.el5xen). These two dom0 run ntpd to synchronize dom0 time. When i start a virtual machine on the first dom0 all seems good, the

Live migration problem with xen 3.2
Hi, Live migration was working well for me with 3.1. Recently I move to 3.2, and now live migration does not work anymore. Here is what i obtain on source node : ---- xm migrate --live webdav node2 Error: /usr/lib/xen-3.2-1/bin/xc_save 26 6 0 0 1 failed Usage: xm migrate <Domain> <Host> [...] ---- And in the xend.log (still on the source node) : ---- [2008-03-03 10:12:52 15205] INFO

DomU freezes after migration
Hi everybody, I''m facing a strange issue with my current setup. I''ve got a working Xen 3.4.3 / DRBD 8.3.7 cluster which runs fine and is very stable. I''m using for both Dom0 and DomU''s a xen patched kernel 2.6.32.13 (tried also with 2.6.32.25 and latest gentoo ported patchset) Since I don''t need automatic failover or load balancing of guests,

bonding, ethtool and live migration
hi, i''m having here the problem with bonding and crcchecksum. So as i read the mailing list the solution is to run ethtool -K eth0 tx off inside domU. So my domU is reachable. All is fine. But after i migrate (live) the domU to another machine the complete domU stopped. Und I also had one time this ugly Zombie thing in xm list and couldn''t reboot the machine (only power

Network optimization ?
Hi, I''m trying to see if there is a way to optimize network on DomU (pv guests), with Xen 4. I do my benchmarks only with "iperf", with default configuration and 64KB TCP window size. From my tests transfer rate drop from 3.19 Gbits/sec on Dom0 to 925 Mbits/sec on DomU, yes 72% slower. I test with this hosts : - a dedicated server - a dom0 on another dedicated server -

live migration with xen 2.0.7 with fibre channel on Debian - help needed
Hi, I''d like to test the stability of live migration during heavy load of domU. scenario: - both dom0s and domU are running on Debian Sarge. - script on dom0 triggers live-migration to the other dom0 - domU is running I/O tests, e.g. bonnie++ - domUs root- (ext3) and swap fs is stored on two partitions in a san - san is connected using fibre channel cards to both dom0s - san in dom0

problem after migration
Hi, I believe I can post this here. I have a domU ( Redhat 6) running in Paravirt mode. When I migrate this domU to another host, looks like the domU is freezing in the other host. When I take it back to original host ,it starts to run normally and this is what can see in dmesg of domU : suspending xenstore... trying to map vcpu_info 0 at ffff88000434b020, mfn b67660, offset 32 cpu 0 using

Live Migration of BS2000 DomU
Hi, we (Fujitsu) are proud to announce the successful live migration of a BS2000 domU (pvHVM). The domU had 32 GB of memory, 8 active vcpus, an active LAN connection and about 2500 FC-disks online. The domU had an active test load on 8 disks running and several cpu intensive test jobs. All BS2000 peripherals are connected via a special pv-driver handling all devices with just one

Race condition in sending gratuitous ARP for live migration ?
Hi, So, the issue is a fairly common one: Network doesn''t work for like a minute or so after a live migration. The setup is a debian wheezy dom0 with xen 4.1.2 running 3.6.11 kernel. The domU is a Ubuntu 12.04 with a 3.2 kernel. The networking setup uses bridges on the dom0. I also made sure that the bridge forwarding delay is set to 0. The VM doesn''t initiate any network

New version of the XCP migration utility now available at xen.org
Hi all, Version 1.2 of the XCP migration utility is now available at: http://www.xen.org/products/cloud_projects.html Release highlight is the ability to migrate PV VMs that load kernel/ramdisk from the Dom0(without pygrub). In order for the script to automatically SFTP the kernel/ramdisk to the server( using --sftp ), you will need the paramiko module: http://www.lag.net/paramiko. You can

Live migration fails depending on on the kernel Version of DomU
Hi, I''m running a two node xen-Cluster with CentOS 5.3. I''m using gfs2 for the cluster filesystem and kernel 2.6.18-128.1.6.el5xen #1 SMP for Dom0 (xen 3.0.3). Live migration works fine as long as the DomU guest is running CentOS 5.3 or SLC 4.7 with kernel version 2.6.9-55.EL.cern. But if the SLC 4.7 guest is running the current 2.6.9-78.0.17.EL.cern kernel, the migration

CentOS 8 Install as DOMU in PV Environment
We tried to get CentOS 8 domU working in PV mode as well but did not have any success and ended up deploying it in HVM mode. The reason OP have was lack of hardware support for HVM. This wasn't our rationale for wanting to run in PV mode. Our rationale was that we prefer to deploy CentOS 7 VMs on LVs which are formatted and deployed from an image on dom0 and don't have any partition

Xen PV domU reported as Xen-HVM
Hello, I am running two dom0s, one on CentOS 5 with Xen 4.1.2 (from Gitco) and the other one on CentOS 6 with Xen 4.2.4 (from Xen4CentOS). I host one LVM based domU on both from the same template (CentOS 6 PV) with the same Xen config (see below). However, the domU on Xen 4.1 reports itself as Xen PV while the domU on Xen4CentOS reports itself as Xen HVM. == First domU == virt-what and cPanel

What makes live migration so slow?
Hello, I have now shfited to Centos 5.5, and I am testing live migration between 2 physical hosts with XEN 3.1.2. XEN 3.1.2 (virtualization) is included in centOS 5.5 during the installation phase, so everything is handled by default. A third host with Ubuntu OS serves as the network file system. The three hosts are connected by one D-link gigabit switch (DGS-2205). The downtime of live

CentOS 8 Install as DOMU in PV Environment
All, Just wanted to check one last time before letting this thread die. I am curious if anyone has gotten CentOS 8 to work in a PV Xen environment. Thanks. <9f9dcad3f78905b03201 at bcirpg.com> wrote: >All, > >I have successfully installed CentOS 7 on a PV environment, and have been trying to see if I can can get a CentOS 8 install running. > >Hardware does not support

RE: PCI passthrough on PV domU crashes with iommu=soft (fixed)
Fixed : Double amount of memory from 128 to 256 and iommu works it out fine. RTFEM (read the fucking error message) : [ 0.872160] Kernel panic - not syncing: Out of memory and no killable processes... ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Frédéric Abel| RTS France BeNeLux | Quantum Corporation
