Ruby, Rails & Linux - Which distro
Did I sound like our President? :)
<spin>
I didn''t explain myself well. I am not thinking of buying the
identically equipped PC laptop either at the same price.
If I had a $2500-$3000 budget (laptop, Applecare + case etc) I might
consider the Mac, but then in the PC laptop universe there are more
options of going with the slower processors (T2300 or T2400) for about
$1,000 less

No Full Virtualisation with Intel Core 2 Duo T5500 Mobile CPU?
Hello,
I have some interesting issue with Intel VT CPU and XEN 3.0.2:
I''m running XEN 3.0.2 on a MSI Fuzzy 945GM2 Mainboard
(http://www.msi.com.tw/program/products/ic/ic_detail.php?prod_no=4) with
a Intel Core 2 Duo Mobile CPU (T5500).
When booting the mainboard BIOS says it found a EM64T CPU, which is
AFAIK the code for a Intel CPU with Virtualisation Technologie.
But whether Linux

Error: (22, ''Invalid argument'')
Hello everybody,
I can successfully boot up my dom0, but I can''t create domUs. If I try to
create one I get the following output from xm:

Using config file "/etc/xen/debian.cfg".
Error: (22, ''Invalid argument'')
There''s no more interesting information in syslog. Any ideas what is the
problem?

Running an R script without running R
Is there any way to run an R script without running R?
As an example, suppose I have a tcl/tk interface that asks
for a number (in a GUI) and displays its factorial. Is there a
way to invoke this script without invoking R?
I'm using R 2.4.1 in GNU/Linux Fedora Core 4.

CPC provider - input welcome
Tracing Fans,
I know it''s been a long time in coming but the CPU Performance
Counter (CPC) provider is almost here! The code is currently in
for review and a proposed architecture document is attached here
for review.
Any and all feedback/questions on the proposed implementation
is welcome.
Thanks.

Probe ID changes
OK, I''ve been fritzing around with something I noticed last night,
thinking that I understood what was going on, but now it''s getting
confusing again.
A system that has been running for a couple of months had a hole in the
probe ID list near the end in the middle of the fbt probes. And then a
couple of syscall probes were stuck in the hole. It looked like this:

samba with ldap and digest-md5
Hi all,
I am running samba-server-3.0.6-4.1.100mdk, openldap-servers-2.1.25-6mdk,
lib64sasl2-plug-digestmd5-2.1.15-10.1.100mdk. I have searched through the
lists and I am wondering if I am the only one doing this kind of set-up..
Anyway question is as follows: In my ldap server I have normal posix
accounts with plain text password that are sorted out by a sasl-regex in the
slapd.conf and

[LLVMdev] pb05 results for current llvm/dragonegg
Attached are the Polyhedron 2005 benchmark results for current llvm/dragonegg svn
on x86_64-apple-darwin11 built against Xcode 4.3.2 and FSF gcc 4.6.3. The benchmarks
for -msse3 and -msse4 appear identical (at least for degg+optnz). This is fortunate
since there seems to be a bug in -msse4 on 2.33 GHz (T7600) Intel Core 2 Duo Merom
(http://llvm.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=12434).

R Code for X-Tab with Row/Col Proportions, Expected Vals and Tests
Recently, I noted a post and replies on R-Help from Professor Marc
Feldesman regarding a cross tabulation function that generates row and
column proportions, marginal values, expected cell values and tests for
independence presumably similar in a fashion to the output of the S-Plus
crosstabs() function or the SAS Proc Freq.
Martin Maechler had posted some code in reply for folks to update and

running wondows from ubuntu dapper
Hi folks,
I''m just in the process of installing ubuntu dapper on my new laptop,
which came with windows xp preinstalled. For now I''ve kept the
original windows install in a separate partition, and I''m wondering if
it''s possible for me to access it from within ubuntu, using xen''s
hardware virtualization. The laptop is a Latitude D820, with a

Success story
hello,
just for a success story :
After bad experience on fedeora core 6, I have tested a OpenSuse 10.2beta2.
I have installed with success a Windows XP SP2.
The hardware:
A intel DQ965gf
Intel Core 2 Duo 6700
USB DVD reader
IDE disk (PATA)
Set AHCI mode in BIOS and add all-generic-ide in boot option.
The opensuse 10.2beta2 does not well configured the xen kernel, you should do a

CentOS 5 on a Thinkpad T60 laptop
Hello,
I'm considering buying a second-hand Thinkpad T60 (with 2 GB RAM), as
a secondary laptop in order to run CentOS 5 on the field.
My main focus is therefore to have something robust, reliable and
above all well compatible with CentOS.
Hibernate / suspend feature are important to me, because that's the
main issue I have with CentOS on other laptops.
I have found the following
