beginners question concerning security
Hi List, as I''m a real beginner I would be pleased if someone can answer a maybe simple question. I''m looking for a virtaul server system to be used by diffrent entities. As I heard from other solutions there are often (at least small) security problems. Now I would like to know if it''s (at least theoretical possible) that one user from domU_a can access domU_b or

2.6.25: xm console doesn''t work: "XENBUS: Device with no driver: device/console/0"
Previously, I used to run 2.6.18 kernel built from Xen sources. I just tried to run a 2.6.25.1 domU kernel on top of Xen 3.2 - after changing domU''s config file here and there, I successfully booted the guest, but I''m still unable to use xm console. When I start the domain, it displays all kernel and bootup messages, but I don''t get any prompt after the bootup is

Windows95 ARPing like crazy
Hi again, I realize this is generally not the place for this question but this is always where the answers are so here goes. We have a couple of win95 Pcs that regularly go nuts and arp foreach IP address on their subnet. The resulting broadcast storm is make even worse because of the inability of our net. admin. to 1) explain it 2) contain it 3) fix it (not too bright). I checked the registry

VLANs with Xen - work with 1 Gbit, doesn''t with 100 Mbit cards?
I have a strange problem with VLANs with Xen 3.0.4. I signalled it on Xen-users list, but found no definitive solution to it. I configure VLANs so that they are available in dom0; domUs don''t know that they use VLANs. I use a stock "network-bridge" comming from Xen for setting up networking: #!/bin/bash dir=$(dirname "$0") "$dir/network-bridge"

Spooky networking issue: ping OK on container, stops on VM, restarts with arp -d
I am managing two Xen containers which are exhibiting a spooky behavior. There are intermittent network failures that affect only the VM''s, and not dom0. This exhibits itself as problems with nfs locks, snmp, and even icmp ping. The arp tables look normal on both the dom0 and the guest. However, it is definitely arp related. Causing arp traffic of any sort results the problem curing

bonding + VLANs -> Oops/panic, no VLAN on 100 Mbit cards [SOLVED]
As the issue concerns both the -user (configuration) and -devel (OOPS), I''m sending this message to both lists. Some time ago I complained about two problems: - VLANs are not working on machines with 100 Mbit cards - I get a kernel Oops (sometimes panic) when I try to use bonding and VLANs with Xen The root of the issue is the same in both cases: VLAN interfaces must *not* be

CentOS 5.x 32bit VPS Ping Issue
I just got an inexpensive VPS too have an outside server to play/test with. I am pinging it every 5 minutes and graphing with MRTG on another CentOS box. This works fine to all servers but the VPS. The first ping to the VPS is always crud and following ones are fine. [root at ns1 scripts]# ping X PING X 56(84) bytes of data. 64 bytes from X: icmp_seq=1 ttl=55 time=773 ms 64 bytes from X:

Mount fails with EBUSY if running xen0 kernel
Hi, I''ve two SCSI disks attached to my system (Ubuntu Dapper). One is the system disk. The other one should be used for the guest images. My problem now is that I cannot mount /dev/sdb1 (ext3 fs) when booted with a xen0 kernel (2.6.12-xen0 as well as 2.6.16-xen0). Booting the normal Dapper kernel (2.6.15 no xen support) the disk mounts fine. strace mount /dev/sdb1 /images Shows:

FATAL: Could not open /lib/modules/2.6.18.8-xen0/modules.dep

But after reboot the startup stops with the kernel panic, that it doesn''t find the modules folder.... its an Asrock AM2NF3-VSTA Board with nForce3 250 chipset, and the HDD is on Sata I compiled my own kernel, and tried with the AMD and Nvidia IDE Driver

IPsec broken in 2.6.12-xen0?
Hello, Is IPsec using ESP in tunnel mode broken on the current 2.6.12-xen0 kernels? (I.e., one endpoint of the tunnel is the dom0 kernel) Thanks Reiner _______________________________________________ Xen-devel mailing list Xen-devel@lists.xensource.com http://lists.xensource.com/xen-devel

iscsi boot xen0 initrd
In case it helps anyone, here''s a script I use to boot xen0 over iscsi with an initrd using linux-iscsi and iscsi-init (both on sourceforge). Some (or most) of it might be debian (sarge) specific though. The script goes in /etc/mkinitrd/scripts and puts the bits and pieces in place. It has to prepend stuff to /script in the resultant initrd so it does a few funny things. Add your Ethernet

xen0 and xenU for linux-2.6.27-xen.hg
Hello, please can someone on the list point me to the right direction how to build xen0 and xenU kernels for linux-2.6.27-xen.hg? A make world KERNELS="linux-2.6-xen0 linux-2.6-xenU" leads me to the error: select-linux-arch: x86 select-linux-image: cannot determine Linux image to use for x86 in build-linux-2.6.27-xen0_x86_32 cp: missing destination file operand after

xenU / xen0 - or a single (xen) kernel?
from the README: " These are smaller builds with just selected modules, intended primarilly for developers that don''t like to wait for a -xen kernel to build. The -xenU kernel is particularly small as it does not contain any physical device drivers, and hence is only useful for guest domains." correct me here, but does that mean for a typical rollout you want to

hardware-watchdog driver problems in linux 2.6.10-xen0
Hi! I''m trying to run w83627hf_wdt.ko watchdog driver in domain 0 (xenlinux 2.6.10-xen0), but the driver doesn''t seem to work (the machine reboots all the time after the watchdog-timeout set in BIOS). Is there something that could prevent the driver from accessing the watchdog-hardware (io-ports/registers) ? The watchdog-driver is very simple, and you can find it in

Restarting / shutting down a xen0 server
Hi all, my main xen test system is a pizza box, simply standard. The kernel of stable debian sarge can shut it down/restart it correctly. My own xen kernel (based on debians inofficial xen kernel) cannot. I do not know much of kernels and hardware yet, so please help me to understand: Is shutting down (as opposed to writing "power down" to the screen) or restarting based on APM or
