rails_asset_id, query strings, and browser caching
Hi all. Now that compute_public_path calls _rails_asset_id to append a query string containing the asset file''s modification date, all asset URLs contain query strings. [1] Which, in theory, is a fantastic thing for caching, since it forces browsers to download and not cache changed assets, allows them to cache unchanged assets forever, and has no effect on the actual file or what is

MergeJS - Easily merge, compress, cache, and version your javascript!
After reading Cal Henderson''s article on Vitamin Serving Javascript Fast<http://synthesis.sbecker.net/articles/2006/06/03/www.thinkvitamin.com/features/webapps/serving-javascript-fast>I was immediately inspired to create a plugin to easily facilitate this in Ruby on Rails. I whipped up most of it right then, and finally got around to polishing it for release today. Told myself I

Heartbeat OCF ressource agent
Hello, I've tried to write an OCF ressource agent in order to manage by the heartbeat way a dovecot server. It seems to work fine. This kind of script could be found in the directory on a CentOS release 5.2 : /usr/lib/ocf/resource.d/ If the attachement isn't working, I've cut and paste the script here :

routes mapping, subdomains and page-caching
Each of its own is no problem, but the combination of them is confusing my head ! I want to to map in routes.rb an url for an article which is identified by its permalink. The permalink is unique per subdomain. Has anybody done that and can post an example ? Should I do subdomain filtering in routes.rb so I can get page-cachabled URLs (and URL rewriting in Lighttpd form subdomain-urls to

Rails to web analytics integration
Anyone have experience (or plugins) available for pulling web analytics into the rails environment? Our marketing folks want to combine the page view data together with our registration/activity info, not too different than advocated here: http://www.thinkvitamin.com/features/webapps/how-to-measure-the-success- of-your-web-app We''re using Apache 2/mongrel. RaislsEdge - where to get latest javascripts ?
To play with RJS I just made a "rake freeze edge". But this copies only the libs into vendor/rails and any attempt of "rake update_javascripts" fails. But all the he required javascripts are there, at: BASEPATH/vendor/rails/actionpack/lib/action_view/helpers/javascripts/ Except of prototype, they seem to have no version number, so I am asking whether I should take those

rounded corners in rails apps ?
Hi all I like very much rounded corners and often used thee well known nifty Javascript approach for that, Recently I discovered Rico ( http://openrico.org), which does the same and is much simpler to use (don''t require additional css files) and is based on prototype.js. This is all very nice, but there is currently one problem, the latest Rico library seems to require prototype 1.3.1,

Liquid templates and forms
I have started to experiment with Liquid templates and all goes fine as long as I just display my stuff. But I want to get user input (using forms), and I couldn''t figure out so far whether and how liquid facilitates the use of forms, something like the form helper tags in .rhtml. Anybody knows about that ? -- Roberto Saccon - http://rsaccon.com -------------- next part --------------

when to use mongrail plugins ?
Hi all I just went throught the docomentation of mogrel and I am wondering wht the plugins are good for. I understood how the work and I am comparing the situation to Lighttpd where mods are available for specific tasks. But in Lighttpd (or apache) those mods are running at native speed. But at mongrel, if the plugins are writte in ruby, couldn''t that code just be a rails plugin ? One

image_tag adding request parameter
I have noticed that the image_tag helper method now appends a request parameter to the generated src attribute. With Rails 1.0/actionpack-1.11.2 I had <img src="/images/rss.gif" /> Now (1.1/1.12.1) I get <img alt="Rss" border="0" src="/images/rss.gif?1142366545" /> Is there any use for that number? Where does it come from? This is very far

switchtower, windows and dispatch.fcgi
I just setup switchtower and I am very happy with it. Just one thing is giving me some headache: My development machine is windows and my deployment host is Unix. Each time I deploy I need to make dispatch.fcgi executable. I wrote my own task for that. But does there exist any smarter way to get this automated ? I think Subversion offers some possiblity to declare a file as executable, but no idea

clientside transformation of markdown to HTML
To save AJAX round trips for live-previews. Does anybody know whether there exist a cross-browser way to achieve that ? how can I retrieve a session based on the session-id
I am trying to mix Flash and RoR (for fileupload without pagerefresh) Unfortunately the requests originating from the flashplayer do not have the right sessionid. So I tried to hackaround with reading the _session_id form the cookie and sending it together with the fileupload POST from the flashplayer to the webserver. But how can i retrieve the session based on the session_id at my controller
