ASUS PT6 or Intel DX58SO for CentOS?
I'm looking at setting up a new machine to run CentOS 5 and a few VMWare machines to test Windows XP, Vista, and 7. I'm working with a custom PC shop and they've recommended I use either the ASUS PT6 or Intel DX58SO. Any feedback good or bad on either of these? Thanks! --Chris

5.2 driver for Marvell Yukon 88E8042 PCI-E Fast Ethernet controller
Hello, I'm trying to install CentOS 5.2 on an HP 6730s notebook. All's going well except for one little item -- the networking. Never thought I'd have trouble with an Ethernet adapter, so I didn't even check before buying this machine; it was cheap. The adapter is a Marvell Yukon 88E8042 PCI-E Fast Ethernet controller. I can't find a Linux driver for it except one that

Installation problem from R 2.8.x
Dear Developers, Since 2.8, R installation has got a bug in it such that if a package has a "configure" file then it cannot be installed without modification. For example: * Installing *source* package 'foreign' ... ERROR: 'configure' exists but is not executable -- see the 'R Installation and Adminstration Manual' * Removing

isolinux problem: recent kernel versions vs. old hardware
Hi, recent isolinux versions work fine with current linux kernels on current hardware. But on older hardware there isn't a bootsplash visible at all - like if there isn't a CD in the tray. :( Sadly the older isolinux versions don't work with current kernels (giving me an empty /proc/cmdline for example when using kernel 2.6.23), otherwise I'd just use an old isolinux version of

Hello, My centos is 4.8 while I need gtk 2.8 or later. How to upgrade GTK? I'm trying to upgrade manually based on RPMs on 5.X, there are too many decencies when upgrading libX. Is there anybody can give some suggestion to enlighten me? Thanks. - Tommy -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... URL:

various patches from Mandrakelinux package
I was looking at the libvorbis 1.0 SRPM of Mandrakelinux, and it contained some patches which are not included in vorbis 1.1 svn. I'm attaching these patches here, because it could maybe be interesting to include these upstream. (libvorbis-1.1-aliasing.patch is actually a rediffed patch of Mandrakesoft's one for 1.0 against 1.1 svn). The author of these patches is Gwenole Beachesne,

X11 Problems
Hi all, I'm having trouble getting x11 to work with R. (This is on Debian testing.) I installed r-base and r-base-dev, and then r-cran-cairodevice. I also tried installing the Cairo package within R, which appears to work fine. This what I'm seeing: > capabilities() jpeg png tiff tcltk X11 aqua http/ftp sockets TRUE TRUE TRUE TRUE

Kernel panic with load balancing
Hi! I''ve 5 DSL routers and a linux router in a switch. The linux router is doing NAT for a LAN network, but it freezes when I set up load balancing with this command: ip route add default proto static\ nexthop via 192.168.1.10 dev eth1\ nexthop via 192.168.1.20 dev eth1\ nexthop via 192.168.1.30 dev eth1\ nexthop via 192.168.1.40 dev eth1\ nexthop

CentOS 5.4 .x86_64 and perl.i386
To All, Thanks to the CentOS guys for 5.4; sure appreciate your work. I have one question. I had to remove perl-5.8.8-18.el5_3.1.i386 on two x86_64 machines in order to get perl.x86_64 4:5.8.8-27.el5 to update. Does this represent a change from 5.3 to 5.4 and should I be concerned about the loss of perl-5.8.8-18.el5_3.1.i386. So far I have not found anything broken. Greg Ennis

Cloned Centos Boxes - First Run to run again?
I need to build a bank of 12 centos boxes, for an experiment I'm doing. I don't want to install centos 12 times, I'm using virtual box across three machines, how can I get the first run scripts to run again to that the box is reconfigured on it's next boot. I want each box to appear like a fresh unique install.

smbpasswd
Hi, For automation in Perl scripts that add users, trying to add in smbpasswd, I'm sure, years ago, there was a way of issuing this without drama, now it seems it wont just take the password, is there a hidden option? or can we get "-w" changed so that it inserts the password into the pass file? `smbpasswd -a foo -w bar`; would be nice and painless for automation without writing

Whether I like it or not I need to get a version of PHP that is greater than 5.2.1 as the latest SugarCRM version require this and as I am a module developer I need to have one of the later versions of PHP on my machines. Does anyone know of a reliable and good archive for PHP that provides higher versions than the ones supplied by the upstream provider? Thanks Jobst -- 'Two things

Problem with nvidia-drv-x11 when upgrading to CentOS 5.2
Hi! I know that the nvidia-drv-x11-package is from RPMForge, but I thought I might mention it here. I have a machine with a NVidia-card and because of the ease of use I use the rpmforge-package for that. After upgrading the problem was that during rebooting as soon as the machine hit the RHGB (which implicitly uses that driver) the machine froze. I booted into the old kernel removed rhgb,
