SOLVED: Win XP Client password change nightmare.
First of all, thanks a lot to John H Terpstra for his kind and useful help. The problem was something quite simple, the password chat. It really needs asterisks even at the beginning of each line. For CentOS (Red-Hat), this works (notice the red asterisks): password chat = "*New*password*" %n\n "*Retype*password*" %n\n "*updated*successfully*" This does not:

Roaming profiles and USRMGR.EXE
I'm using Samba 3.0.22 on Ubuntu 6.06.1 as PDC for our Windows workstations. The passdb backend is tdbsam. I want to employ roaming profiles and due to the fact that we have a mixed Windows environment (Windows 2000 Pro and Windows XP Pro) I have the following entry in my smb.conf: logon path = \\%L\profiles\%U\%a Basically, this works fine. If a user is working on a W2k workstation, his

Win XP Client password change nightmare.
Hello, I have setup a Samba server with CentOS 5.2 and Samba 3.0.28-1.el5_2.1 (the CentOS included versi?n). I have configured Samba as a PDC following "Samba-3 by example" chapter 3, "Secure Office Networking". No DNS or DHCP active, as far as for now this is just a test environment. Most of it works fine, but trying to change user passwords for a MS-Windows test computer

Debian add user etc scripts & usrmgr.exe
Hi All, I have just joined this list, and this is my first post - so please bear with me. I am running debian testing (sarge) with a 2.4.23-1-686 kernel, and a self compiled samba-3.0.0final (--with-quotas), deployed from self built *.debs. It is running as a PDC (smb.conf at bottom of post), and I have successfully mapped "Domain Users" to unixgroup users, "Domain Admins"

Re: Samba3 - LDAP - USRMGR.EXE
passdb appears a lot of times in smba logs, even if it uses LDAP as a backend, as in my config. Maybe the log message should be changed in the code for something easier to debug... But this error message you said, only appears if you try to add or delete the user twice from LDAP, so you should remove "-a" from the add user script and comment out the user delete script if you intend to

usrmgr.exe "group name could not be found" error
I've been having this problem on one of my PDC's where when using usrmgr from a windows box, I get the error: The group name could not be found. Since all of the groups samba is interested in exist and since they are all mapped to the appropriate posix groups I'm not sure where to start with this one. A 'net rpc group list' gives the following: Domain Guests Domain Admins

PDC, usrmgr.exe created user lacks profile info
I'm finally near the end (I hope) of setting samba 3.0.14a as a PDC on a debian sarge, but I (and google, and list archive) can't manage to find a solution. When I add user with the help of usrmgr on my XP box, user is created both in linux and samba (thanks user add script), but lacks profile info (I mean Home Directory, HomeDir Drive, Logon Script and Profile Path), so roaming profile

Hello Tried to add user in user manager from domains, NT4.0 client, logged in as root on the NT client. Clicked "New User", filled in nick, description, full name, password1, password2 (was dead sure they were the same, carefully typed 9-chars long stupid passwd). The user wasn't in the database. Then clicked OK. Never managed to add user this way. Checked all the add user, del

Samba3beta3 + PDC + LDAP + UsrMgr.exe prob
Heya all, So I've finally got a machine on this Samba 3 domain. Yey. Its an XP Pro box, so I grabbed the UsrMgr.exe and SrvMgr.exe programs from Microsoft, and hoped to at least use UsrMgr to see lists of users, maybe even as a full User manager, since I can't find a decent one that does all the samba3 stuff. Anyway, I'm on the domain, and I run the UsrMgr.exe program and I get an

Reloading in usrmgr.exe
usrmgr.exe administration works for me. However, sometimes it is necessary to reopen the domain up to couple of times until the administration starts working. Allegedly also it's not necessary to press F5-reload after adding an user on Windows NT. However didn't test it, never used Windows NT for adding users on an Windows NT DC :) With Samba, I always have to press F5-reload in

Making unix system accounts invisible in USRMGR.EXE
I have a Samba (3.0.22) server (working on Ubuntu 6.06.1) acting as NT PDC. My passdb backend is tdbsam. I'm using USRMGR.EXE from Microsoft for user account administration. In USRMGR.EXE I see all accounts, unfortunately also Ubuntu's system accounts (like proxy, sync, sshd etc.). Is there any way to make them invisible for USRMGR.EXE? Cheers B.

usrmgr.exe does not show any Samba groups
Hi, We are running samba 3.0.28 on RHEL 5 as a PDC serving around 1000 active users . This domain was vampired from aWindows NT 4 domain a few years ago. OpenLDAP 2.2.13 is used as the back end user database. One of the problems we have is that usrmgr.exe does not display any groups. I can use usrmgr to create users, delete users and create groups. But I cannot use it to delete groups

One problem I've come across (actually I had loads but the HOW-TO, Samba archive and google solved most of them) is with usrmgr. There is one XP client that I have installed the NT 4 Server Tools software on for the school IT coordinator (note the phrase
