Supermicro AOC-SAT2-MV8 and 1TB Seagate Barracuda ES.2
Hi all,
I''m getting a very strange problem with a recent OpenSolaris b134 install.
System is:
Supermicro X5DP8-G2 BIOS 1.6a
2x Supermicro AOC-SAT2-MV8 1.0b
11 Seagate Barracuda 1TB ES.2 ST31000340NS drives
If I have any of the 11 1TB Seagate drives plugged into the controller,
the AOC-SAT2-MV8 BIOS appears to detect them just fine, but I get the
following problems:

Force SATA1 on AOC-SAT2-MV8
I have a supermicro AOC-SAT2-MV8 and am having some issues getting drives to work. From what I can tell, my cables are to long to use with SATA2. I got some drives to work by jumpering them down to sata1, but other drives I can''t jumper without opening the case and voiding the drive warranty. Does anyone know if there is a system setting to drop it back to SATA1? I use zfs on a raid2 if

SMART problems with AOC-SAT2-MV8 / marvell88sx driver
I''ve been trying to get either smartctl or sg3_utils to report properly.
They both have the same low-level problems which leads me to suspect
either I''m doing something wrong OR there is a problem in the
marvell88sx / sd / SATA etc framework.
I can access drive name/serial number of all drives on the SAT2 card
and the temperature is returned from the IE log page on my two

Offtopic: Which SAS / SATA HBA do you recommend?
Hi all,
Sorry for the offtopic question. I hope though that others on this list
or reading the archive find the answers useful too.
It seems the Adaptec 1405 4port SAS HBA I bought only works with RHEL
and SuSE through a closed source driver, and thus is quite useless :-(
I was stupid enought to think "Works with RHEL and SuSE" meant "Certified

X4500 device disconnect problem persists
After applying 125205-07 on two X4500 machines running Sol10U4 and
removing "set sata:sata_func_enable = 0x5" from /etc/system to
re-enable NCQ, I am again observing drive disconnect error messages.
This in spite of the patch description which claims multiple fixes
in this area:
6587133 repeated DMA command timeouts and device resets on x4500

Panic while scrubbing
Hello,
I am not sure if I am posting in the correct forum, but it seems somewhat zfs related, so I thought I''d share it.
While the machine was idle, I started a scrub. Around the time the scrubbing was supposed to be finished, the machine panicked.
This might be related to the ''metadata corruption'' that happened earlier to me. Here is the log, any ideas?

Can I trust ZFS?
Hey folks,
I guess this is an odd question to be asking here, but I could do with some feedback from anybody who''s actually using ZFS in anger.
I''m about to go live with ZFS in our company on a new fileserver, but I have some real concerns about whether I can really trust ZFS to keep my data alive if things go wrong. This is a big step for us, we''re a 100% windows

ZFS 60 second pause times to read 1K
Every day we see pause times of sometime 60 seconds to read 1K of a file for local reads as well as NFS in a test setup.
We have a x4500 setup as a single 4*( raid2z 9 + 2)+2 spare pool and have the files system mounted over v5 krb5 NFS and accessed directly. The pool is a 20TB pool and is using . There are three filesystems, backup, test and home. Test has about 20 million files and uses 4TB.

PoE VOIP phones in Australia
Hi,
Are there any resellers of phones that can take power over ethernet in
Australia? All I can find for sale online is the BT-10[12], which is cheap
but not featureful enough, and the Snom 190, which is about right, but
neither of them support PoE. I'm particularly intereseted in the Snom 220
with the keypad expansion for our receptionist.
Although, could you make a PoE split-out cable

CentOS and Marvell SAS/SATA drivers
Hello all,
I've been on a real roller coaster ride getting a large virtual host up
and running. One troublesome thing I've discovered (the hard way) is
that the drivers for Marvell SAS/SATA chips still have a few problems.
After Googling around quite a bit, I see a significant number of others
have had similar issues, especially evident in the Ubuntu forums but
also for a few

zfs send and recordsize
Hi Everyone,
I perform a snapshot and a zfs send on a filesystem with a recordsize
of 16k, and redirect the output to a plain file. Later, I use cat
sentfs | zfs receive otherpool/filesystem. In this case the new
filesystem''s recordsize will be the default 128k again. The other
filesystem attributes (for example atime) are reverted to defaults
too. Okay, I can set these later,

polycom repair
Hi all,
Has anyone had any experience getting Polycom phones repaired? The screen on
one of our IP600s got smashed, and I'm wondering if it's worth the effort to
get it repaired, or if it'd just be cheaper to buy a new phone.
Thanks,

polycom custom ring tones (slightly OT)
Hi all,
Has anyone made up custom ring tones for the Polycom SIP phones? We use
different rings for different lines, but the ones it comes with are all very
similar. In the interesting of sharing, here's one I made up for paging:

zfs-discuss Digest, Vol 33, Issue 19
Hello Ross,
We''re trying to accomplish the same goal over here, ie. serving multiple
VMware images from a NFS server.
Could you tell what kind of NVRAM device did you end up choosing? We bought
a Micromemory PCI card but can''t get a Solaris driver for it...
Thanks

Optimal strategy (add or replace disks) to build a cheap and raidz?
Hello,
i have an 8 port sata-controller and i don''t want to spend the money for 8 x 750 GB Sata Disks
right now. I''m thinking about an optimal way of building a growing raidz-pool without loosing
any data.
As far as i know there are two ways to achieve this:
- Adding 750 GB Disks from time to time. But this would lead to multiple groups with multiple
redundancy/parity disks. I

Polycom IP 600 DHCP problem
I've got a Polycom IP 600 that doesn't want to DHCP. It DHCPDISCOVERs,
there's a DHCPOFFER, it DHCPREQUESTs and a DCHPACK is returned, but 3
seconds later it repeats the process and never boots. The phone works fine
with a static IP, and the DCHP setup works ok for an IP 500. I updated to
bootrom 2.6.2 and sip firmware 1.5.2 which didn't help. Any suggestions?

OpenSolaris ZFS NAS Setup
If it''s of interest, I''ve written up some articles on my experiences of building a ZFS NAS box which you can read here:
http://breden.org.uk/2008/03/02/a-home-fileserver-using-zfs/
I used CIFS to share the filesystems, but it will be a simple matter to use NFS instead: issue the command ''zfs set sharenfs=on pool/filesystem'' instead of ''zfs set

CallerID in Australia & Analogue PSTN Phone System
Is there anyone using * in AU that has successfully extracted the CLID
from an incoming analogue PSTN phone call, and would like to spread the
word?
Note - I am only interested in analogue, not ISDN phones.
