Vendor Specific / Agnostic images
hi guys, I've been going round in circles trying to workout the best way to handle vendor agnostic images and in the interest of sanity and actually getting something out of the door - it looks like the best pln is to get the vendor specific requirements and push images with them ( and suitability marked ) With that in mind, AWS is a good target to start with. Building a C5 chroot on a C6 machine
I'm trying to do something slightly silly; rather than having a C5 machine and a C6 machine around for compiling and testing, I want to create a C5 chroot area. Something similar to "mock" but using lvm snapshots and some local config specific stuff. (Potentially even using Linux Containers to enter the chroot environment). So I thought I'd build out the chroot... % cat

Mock on 5.5 x86_64 failing with Could not find useradd in chroot, maybe the install failed?
I am atempting to work with some rpms in the c5-testing repo. When I add: [c5-testing] name=CentOS-5 Testing baseurl=http://dev.centos.org/centos/5/testing/x86_64/ gpgcheck=1 gpgkey=http://dev.centos.org/centos/RPM-GPG-KEY-CentOS-testing to centos-5-x86_64.cfg, saving as centos-5-x86_64-testdev.cfg I get the aformentioned error. Release for CentOS-6.0 Minimal i386 and x86_64
We are pleased to announce the immediate availability of CentOS-6.0/minimal for i386 and x86_64 Architectures. The minimal install iso media is an alternative install to the main CentOS-6.0 distribution and comes with a trimmed down, preselected rpm list. However, it still runs off the standard installer, with all the regular features that one would expect from the main distribution, except

AWS images and the Sydney zone
hi guys, So it turns out that Sydney is too new a zone and not in the regular AWS image-production-pipeline. Although that should get fixed soon, in the mean time, should we go ahead and push images there ourselves ? - kb -- Karanbir Singh +44-207-0999389 | http://www.karan.org/ | twitter.com/kbsingh ICQ: 2522219 | Yahoo IM: z00dax | Gtalk: z00dax GnuPG Key :

pre-built images
Tru has already been building vmware images ( http://people.centos.org/tru/vmware/ ) for various roles. I was wondering if there was any interest in prebuilt Xen images as well ? And if so, what would be the roles people would want images done for, and what might be suiteable package sets to include for those roles. -- Karanbir Singh : http://www.karan.org/ : 2522219 at icq

How to Standardise the x/y coordinates to the unit square?
Dear Rusers, I want to standardise the values of x/y coordinates to the unit square, i.e. make the x-values all lie within [0,1] and all the y-values lie within [0,1] in the bottom example. I had thought to use scale() function to do it, but it seems that it's used to standardise a variable and the scaled value was not within [0,1]. OR, i can divide x/y-values by their maximum value to get

mock, extras vs epel
I am looking to be a bit more standard in the builds of my CentOS rpms, and so I was about to install mock but noticed that there is one provided in the centos/5/extras and another in epel. epel is obviously newer, but are there reasons/experiences in this group that would suggest sticking with the extras version instead? Or even reasons other than the shiny version number on the epel one to

Package lists for Cloud images
hi Guys, As we get ready to start publishing Cloud Images ( or rather images consumable in various virt platforms, including public and private clouds ) - it would be great to have a baseline package manifest worked out. What / how many images should we build. At this time we were thinking of doing : - CentOS-5 32bit minimal - CentOS-6 32bit minimal - CentOS-5 64bit minimal - CentOS-6 64bit

Anyone seeing mock breakage after updating to 4.4?
Morning, somehow the upgrade to 4.4 broke mock on my system: | [angenenr at shutdown SPECS]$mock -r c3-i386 /home/angenenr/redhat/SRPMS/apache-ssl-2.8.28-2el4.src.rpm | init | clean | prep | This may take a while | Could not find useradd in chroot, maybe the install failed? Nope, it's not the config_opts['chroot_setup_cmd'] = 'groupinstall build' issue, as I'm still

php-mcrypt from c5-testing is the wrong version
Hello all, I am using the c5-testing repo to fetch PHP 5.2.6 and related libraries, required for the LAMP apps that I want to use. php-mcrypt still seems to come from the extras repo and is version 5.1.6 and the php binary doesn't load this module. Any ideas on howto get php-mcrypt 5.2.6? Thanks. -- "The secret impresses no-one, the trick you use it for is everything" - Alfred

rt3 3.8.2 latest version as rpm for C5?
Hi, I know, epel has rt3 in version 3.6.x. And - sadly - for version 3.8.x the perl module dependencies are way ahead of what I can find in epel or rpmforge. But we really need some of the 3.8.x series features. So has anybody maybe built those modules + rt3 v3.8.x for C5? Any hint? I really do not want to install f10. :O Thx Rainer
