Mixing mbox and maildir
Hi there. I understood that in Dovecot 1.0 it should be possible to mix the usage of mbox and maildir mailboxes. I just downloaded, built, and am testing dovecot-stable-20050304. I'm a bit confused as to the terms of namespaces (haven't read that part of the RFC yet), but this does not seem related. Anyway, when I try specifying: default_mail_env = ~/mail/:INBOX=/var/mail/%u On

mbox 2 Maildir
Hi, I am experimenting with the migration. I unset mail_location, thus it is empty and dovecot performs automatic mailbox detection. Therefore I do not need per-user set of mail location. I login as a testuser and do: doveadm sync maildir:~/Maildir It seems for me that in this situation the new Maildir becomes the active mail delivery location at the time of the creation(?) or completing the

Dovecot, pop3, mBox
I have to migrate some old system to new one with installed dovecot (It's my first time using dovecot). I have all mails inside /var/spool/mail folder (mbox files). I can connect and receive mails via POP3, but problem is that dovecot doesn't clear mbox file (everytime when I make send/receive in mailclient program I get all mails again). If I look into log file I see (when I do

mbox 2 Maildir
W/o downtime: see the wiki page below, the "Converting" section. Briefly for my case something like this should work and generally seems simple (no syntax checking yet, pseudo-code like): * Configuration uses mail_location = mbox:~/mails * setup per-user mail location and do for each user individually in a serial manner: -- doveadm sync maildir:~/Maildir; mbox is synced to Maildir,

Permission Denied - cannot create inbox
I cant figure out permissions with Dovecot. I am new with this program and have tried setting the mail group to "mail" which is the group of my mailboxes which are located in /var/spool/mail. Here's the error I get. fs1 dovecot: imap(tl511insight): Error: chown(/home/tl511insight/mail/.imap/INBOX, -1, 12(mail)) failed: Operation not permitted (egid=504(tl511insight), group based

Staged migration from mbox to maildir
So much changes in this migration that the ideal way to do it would be to begin with a few users or a department, then migrate the users affinity group by affinity group: first an institute or so, then the faculty, then the staff, then the students, moving to bigger and bigger groupings as the bugs work out of the migration and the move becomes more assured. We use sendmail and procmail.

swfdec and clutter
hi, i started an experimental clutter-swf renderer project http://www.students.itu.edu.tr/~gumusuy/clutter-swf-0.1.0.tar.bz2 using swfdec-0.6 In fact this project is a part of bigger clutter media project. For less dependency i configured swfdec by ./configure --prefix=/usr --disable-maintainer-mode --disable-gtk --disable-mad --disable-ffmpeg --disable-gstreamer --disable-vivified

INBOX as mbox, other mailboxes as maildir
All, I'm trying to teach dovecot to use the mbox format for /var/mail/%u and maildir for /home/%u/Mail/ but I'm having quite a hard time. This is Dovecot v1.0.beta3 under OpenBSD 3.9 on sparc64. I've been fiddling with default_mail_env and also tried separate namespaces, but all to no avail. Here's some of the things I tried : default_mail_env =

dsync: assert panic on mbox // no INBOX sync on hybrid mbox/maildir
Hi, replying to my own issue: The dsync crash seems to be triggered when there are emails to copy in both directions, and it's fairly clear from comments in the code that it should be releasing a read lock before trying to grab a write lock. A work-around for the crash was doing a one-way sync manually. This allowed the process to complete and my setup is now replicating properly. I guess

INBOX as Maildir and folders as mbox
Hi, I was wondering whether anybody has managed to get Dovecot 1.0 to store INBOX as Maildir and folders as mbox. I've tried something like default_mail_env = mbox:/folders/user/mail:INBOX=maildir:/inboxes/maildir/user:INDEX=/indexes/user but it doesn't seem to work (treats INBOX as mbox). I'm hoping to move some INBOXes from mbox on local disk to Maildir on nicely-mirrored NetApp

with mbox format doveadm ignores subfolders of inbox
Hello. After we switched the format from mbox to mdbox on our dovecot (version 2.1.9) servers last week, some of our users were missing the subfolders of their inboxes. So far we thought that with the mbox format it is not possible to have mail folders containing both messages and subfolders. Now we know that there is one exception from this rule: the inbox. With mbox format dovecot

Dsync ignores INBOX when converting from mbox to maildir
Hi, I am trying to convert email box in mbox format to maildir++. It converts all folders except INBOX. For example: dsync -D -v -f -u 'info at example.org' mirror 'maildir:~/Maildir' prints: dsync(info at example.org): Info: Sport: only in source So it converts Sport folder, but INBOX folder is ignored. dovecot.conf contains: mail_location = mbox:~/mail:INBOX=/var/mail/%u

Using mbox INBOX with Maildirs?
Thanks for everybody's tips on the mbox to maildirs converter. I was unaware that Maildirs was a common format not specific to dovecot, so I was searching using a dovecot keyword. I'm having this problem now with inboxes. I want to use maildirs, but my mail is delivered to an mbox. I can't seem to get dovecot to recognize the inbox location. Is something like:
