only mark as deleted when deleted as default for some mailboxes
Hi list, i wonder if this is possible with some dovecot configuration. Selected mailboxusers will only mark their mails as deleted, when a mail is being deleted through any client. No automatic expunge. This is default behaviour in Outlook, and i think in Thunderbird too, but unfortunately not in Open-Xchange for example. So i was asking myself if it would be possible to simply turn this

Overrideing pop delete?

Can I block dovecot from deleting read messages, after being fetched?
Hi all, Is there an option to disable (server-side) the deletion of read mails after fetching them via POP3, regardless of the MUA config? Here are the issues I'm facing: - my boss wants to force everyone into a server-side "no delete message"-policy, for archiving, auditing and backup&recovery purposes - the requisite here is pop3, so imap is out - the mailusers

undelete messages?
I'm using the lazy expunge plugin as configured in: http://wiki.dovecot.org/Plugins/Lazyexpunge The page claims users can undelete messages without assistance from a sysadmin. How is this accomplished? When I try to subscribe to the folders under the EXPUNGED namespace, nothing happens. ~Cory Coager

used Lazyexpunge
I used Lazyexpunge. I tried to create .DELETED without any hints and see that the creation was successful. I want to prevent users from creating .DELETED, what should I do? openldap - samba
I am having a problem getting users that were added in smbldap-useradd to be able to login. After I add them they are visible, but you can see I get this error - pdb_get_group_sid: Failed to find Unix account for test10 I believe that this has something to do with nss_ldap. because doing a getent passwd, it doesn't display any smb info. Any debugging info or help would be amazing, I'm

duplicate all emails for 'backup' after user deletes them?
I have a user who occasionally reads, then deletes emails using his phone, on his and others email accounts, causing emails deleted on mail server, then he says 'oops, can you recover emails I've deleted?' what's the best way to duplicate all emails to duplicate accounts ? backup folders ? so, next time he deletes emails they can be 'recovered' on the server ? Unable to send email out using Dovecot SASL
Hi, I am currently using Dovecot 1.0.rc17 with Postfix 2.3.8 on Ubuntu. So far I'm able to receive my email using dovecot pop3 but I can't send out the email. Anybody managed to get Postfix with Dovecot SASL support so far? What do I missed out? Below is my configure: #-----------/dovecot.conf-------------- base_dir: /var/run/dovecot/ log_timestamp: .%Y-%m-%d %H:%M:%S . protocols: imap

default profile
Hi, I installed a SaMBa PDC and a BDC. When I log in to an XP client with a new user, sometimes I get the initial profile settings from the netlogon share, but often from local. When I get the local default settings, it is not syncronized to the server at logout. Even if I get the new profile from the server, on the same client, next time, with a new user, I get the new profile from local. I

Hello, Can this be done? configurable number of days? Like to move from courier, but this is the only thing we really need to convince us to change, it is no good telling users to periodically delete trash, they never listen :) Quey

More efficient Deleting of a whole folder (or Purging Trash)
Hi, I've straced a few dovecot processes after hitting purge on a large Trash folder (35,000 messages). It looks like it is going through each message, one by one, and removing (unlinking) each one. Is there not a more efficient way to do this? If Dovecot knows the whole folder is being deleted (ie a Trash purge), could it do something clever with the filesystem to just remove the whole

restore lost emails
Hi, I was wondering if anyone might be able to help me with this. I am running Postfix 2.7.0, Dovecot 1.2.9 and squirrelmail. Every week, I perform a back-up on both Postfix and Dovecot (maildir and conf folders). That's good because I have all the emails backed up. And now what I would like to ask is whether or not there are any easy way of restoring e-mails if some emails got deleted by

Expunge deleted messages older than X days for all users ?
Hi, I'm currently migrating to Dovecot-based IMAP server for a ~200 users environment. Clients are Outlook 2003/2007, Thunderbird 3.x and various mobile clients. 1) What I want to accomplish is to allow the users to delete a message (then the message is moved to "Trash"), then when they empty/delete that message from Trash, it will be kept somewhere on the server for X days,

Delete to Archive?
Hi, I recently switched from being a Gmail user to running Dovecot [2.1.10] on my server. Thank you for an easy to use piece of software that solves problems! I am trying (unsuccessfully) to replicate something from GMail. When I delete a message on my iPhone (or other client), I would like to have it moved to an "All Mail" or Archive folder, instead of actually deleting it. Is

data retention and e-discovery rules
Hello All, I am in the United States where we have e-discovery rules. Some organizations have to retain data for a certain amount of time, others are required to have a data retention policy. This means that while it should probably be possible for a user to "delete" an email so they do not see it. The server needs to store it, possibly in a tree that mirrors the folder setup of
