Modifying the underlying maildir externally (webmail, replication)
Hello, I have a setup where there are multiple maildir users, one of them being the pop/imap server itself, the others are for example a maildir capable webmail and message replication. I would like to evaluate Dovecot, but I wonder how would its binary indexes and logs fit into this picture. After running through http://wiki.dovecot.org/IndexFiles I'm not sure how well would Dovecot

Put existing mails (in Maildir) through sieve filter?
Hello list, the scenario: A user has about 30k mails in his Maildir (all in INBOX) and needs to apply filtering. Provided he writes a working .dovecot.sieve script, is there a way to put all those already delivered mails through Dovecot's LDA and thus have the sieve filter rules applied? Or is there any other way to apply sieve rules to already delivered mails? TIA Andreas -- Andreas

Dovecot's maildir format / is rm safe
Is it considered 'safe' to delete directly from a dovecot Maildir? I mean things of the form: rm Maildir/cur/1288062016.M581217P9422.alpha,S=1873,W=1900:2,S The wiki tells me 'If you wish to modify them in any way, create a new message instead and expunge the old one. ' but it doesn't mention deleted files. Specifically I'm wondering what happens with:

Hi Everybody, I'd like to start archiving e-mails by moving them to a server with running Dovecot. I installed "dovecot-core" and "dovecot-imapd" (version 2.3.4.1) on Debian 10. One of a few configurations I made is to use Maildir: # grep '^mail_location = ' /etc/dovecot/conf.d/10-mail.conf mail_location = maildir:~/Maildir I successfully moved some e-mails (at

[RFC/PATCH 2/3] core: MultiFS infrastructure added.
From: Raphael S. Carvalho <raphael.scarv at gmail.com> MULTIFS SYNTAX: (hd[disk number]:[partition number])/path/to/file The meaning of this_fs was changed to improve the flexibility of the support. Now, this_fs means the file system being currently used. root_fs was created to save the context of the main file system (where ldlinux.sys lives in). get_fs_info is a function pointer that

Panic: IMAP: Trying to allocate 2273345672 bytes
Hi, we're running dovecot 1.1.2 (centos5 32-bit rpm from atrpms) havn't had any real issues with it, but today it looks like an index has become badly corrupted. We're seeing this in the logs every time we log in to a particular account: 2008-09-10T11:56:07+01:00 mail8 dovecot: Panic: IMAP(xxx): Trying to allocate 2273345672 bytes 2008-09-10T11:56:07+01:00 mail8 dovecot: IMAP(xxx):

Not backing up cache files
I am using mdbox for dovecot storage. I wonder if I could skip "dovecot.index.cache" files and, in general, "*.cache" files when doing mail backup. Those files are big and change frequently. What I feel from reading documentation [1][2] is that they could be dropped in the backups, to be recreated on the fly if needed. But I would like expert confirmation. [1]

Remove attribute from netcdf4 object
Dear all For a model I need to combine several netCDF files into one (which works fine). For better overview I'd like to delete/remove some of the attributes. Is there a simple way doing this? I'm using the package netcdf4, which creates an object of class(nc) = "ncdf4". It seems that for earlier versions of netcdf objects, there was the function att.delete.nc{RNetCDF}. But
