Asterisk and flash disks
Hello I see it is possible to buy Flash Disks up to 4GB now. Has anyone any experience of building an Asterisk system with a flash disk as the only storage device? Any brands you recommend? Is 2 or 4GB enough for an Asterisk installation? Typically how many MB is required for voicemail recording files for say a 10 user system? What about voicemail - I suppose files could be emailed and

Decoding Unicode URLs Properly
Please help, I have an application I switched over to UTF-8, but I am unable to decode URLs with unicode characters in them properly. For instance, if I have "item=Pur%E9ed" as a parameter in my url, when it''s decoded by rails, it returns "Pur?ed" and not "Pur?ed". Is there an easy way to fix my controller to accept these characters properly?

How hard to create Asterisk for Compact Flash?
I am aware of Astlinux and the other embedded Asterisk solutions out there? Astlinux is nice but the problem is that when I hit a snag and need to incorporate a patch and what not I cannot do that with Astlinux because I cannot compile my own version. How hard is it to create my own version of Linux/Asterisk to run on Compact Flash. I have seen 1GB Sandisk CF for as low as $50 recently so small

X4540 no next-gen product?
While I understand everything at Oracle is "top secret" these days. Does anyone have any insight into a next-gen X4500 / X4540? Does some other Oracle / Sun partner make a comparable system that is fully supported by Oracle / Sun? http://www.oracle.com/us/products/servers-storage/servers/previous-products/index.html What do X4500 / X4540 owners use if they''d like more

Sun X4540 disk replacement
Sorry for the off-topic question. I''m needing to replace a disk in a x4540 zfs file system. I have replacement ST31000NSSUN disks, but it''s not obvious to me how to separate the original disk from its drive sled, it seems to be attached by more than the usual 4 screws. Is it meant to be separated? I''ve looked the x4540 user guide but it does not say anything about it.

Request URI Length Override
Please help, Does anyone know how to override the Mongrel request URI limits built in? I know it was set at a 512 byte limit, but my application will not work with this in place. Why do I need a larger limit? I''ve written a rails application that uses a bookmarklet to send large amounts of data from site to site. The only way to do this is (and keep it cross browser

Replacement disks for Sun X4500
I am bumping this thread because I too have the same question ... can I put modern 3TB disks (hitachi deskstars) into an old x4500 ? If not, would the x4540 accept them ? -- This message posted from opensolaris.org

syslinux tool for Win2k and 'safeboot' option
Hello I think syslinux is great and just downloaded 2.00 and will start using it in a couple of days. 1. We use an IDE<->compactflash-adapter in our target-system. We use a USB-compact-flash reader/writer(SanDisk/ImageMate) on our linux-host to write the flash. It appears in the Linux-system as '/dev/sda', and we can use syslinux and mount for copying kernel, syslinux.cfg and our

Excruciatingly slow resilvering on X4540 (build 134)
Hello, I''m working with someone who replaced a failed 1TB drive (50% utilized), on an X4540 running OS build 134, and I think something must be wrong. Last Tuesday afternoon, zpool status reported: scrub: resilver in progress for 306h0m, 63.87% done, 173h7m to go and a week being 168 hours, that put completion at sometime tomorrow night. However, he just reported zpool status shows:

Write caches on X4540
We''re using some X4540s, with OpenSolaris 2008.11. According to my testing, to optimize our systems for our specific workload, I''ve determined that we get the best performance with the write cache disabled on every disk, and with zfs:zfs_nocacheflush=1 set in /etc/system. The only issue is setting the write cache permanently, or at least quickly. Right now, as it is,

Export ZFS over NFS ?
I''ve got my first server deployment with ZFS. Consolidating a pair of other file servers that used to have a dozen or so NFS exports in /etc/dfs/dfstab similar to; /export/solaris/images /export/tools /export/ws ..... and so on.... For the new server, I have one large zfs pool; -bash-3.00# df -hl bigpool 16T 1.5T 15T 10% /export that I am starting to

Best way to carve up 8 disks
Ok, previous threads have lead me to believe that I want to make raidz vdevs [0] either 3, 5 or 9 disks in size [1]. Let''s say I have 8 disks. Do I want to create a zfs pool with a 5-disk vdev and a 3-disk vdev? Are there performance issues with mixing differently sized raidz vdevs in a pool? If there *is* a performance hit to mix like that, would it be greater or lesser than building

Acts_As_Ferret Tutorial
Hey guys, I wanted to share with you guys a detailed tutorial I just finished this weekend for using Acts_As_Ferret. http://www.railsenvy.com/2007/2/19/acts-as-ferret-tutorial I started using Ferret and Acts_As_Ferret a few weeks ago, and I learned so much that I wanted to give back to the community by writing up a helpful tutorial that covers all the key topics in one

SanDisk Flash Drive error
Hi all- I'm trying to use a SanDisk Cruzer Micro flash drive (usb, 512MB). It has CruzerLock version 2.0 Security software in it. When I plug it in, it is recognized OK. When I open the drive, I have a file to open: CruzerLock2.exe. It has the Wine icon. But when I click on it, I get: CLZ1020: cannot locate the application in it's required location:

Homegrown Hybrid Storage
Hi, I''m looking to build a virtualized web hosting server environment accessing files on a hybrid storage SAN. I was looking at using the Sun X-Fire x4540 with the following configuration: - 6 RAID-Z vdevs with one hot spare each (all 500GB 7200RPM SATA drives) - 2 Intel X-25 32GB SSD''s as a mirrored ZIL - 4 Intel X-25 64GB SSD''s as the L2ARC. -

x4500/x4540 does the internal controllers have a bbu?
Has anyone worked with a x4500/x4540 and know if the internal raid controllers have a bbu? I''m concern that we won''t be able to turn off the write-cache on the internal hds and SSDs to prevent data corruption in case of a power failure. -- This message posted from opensolaris.org

Best use of 4 drives?
I''m putting together a NexentaOS (b65)-based server that has 4 500 GB drives on it. Currently it has two, set up as a ZFS mirror. I''m able to boot Nexenta from it, and it seems to work ok. But, as I''ve learned, the mirror is not properly redundant, and so I can''t just have a drive fail (when I pull one, the OS ends up hanging, and even if I replace it, I have to

(no subject)
I have just jined this list. I can't seem to boot from a USB and my BIOS recognizes my sandisk USB by name. I can't figure out what modules to use. mbr.bin and parted is one method. Then syslinux is run and a syslinux.cfg is needed. Is this sufficent for syslinux? LINUX bzImage //kernel image INITRD initrd // initial ramdisk to boot a small liinux system on a USB.
