London (UK) Puppet Meetup 24th March (UKUUG social)
Various people have said they are going to UKUUG and I wanted to remind people if they are about and want to discuss puppet, facter, etc they can come along. Entry is not restricted to UKUUG attendees, I''ll try and make myself obvious by having some puppet related paraphenalia. http://www.ukuug.org/events/spring2009/social/ Paul --~--~---------~--~----~------------~-------~--~----~

ctags support for puppet
This is a quick and dirty .ctags file that makes basic navigation possible with vim and ctags, great if you have multiple files: --langdef=puppet --langmap=puppet:.pp --regex-puppet=/^class[ \t]*([a-zA-Z0-9_\-]+)[ \t]*/\1/d,definition/ --regex-puppet=/^site[ \t]*([a-zA-Z0-9_\-]+)[ \t]*/\1/d,definition/ --regex-puppet=/^node[ \t]*([a-zA-Z0-9_\-]+)[ \t]*/\1/d,definition/ --regex-puppet=/^define[

Interest in win32-installer
I was wondering if people would be interested in wrapping msi.dll functionality, I''ve started writing a small library to enable enumeration of products installed via Windows Installer using win32api (I know I can also query via win32ole to win32_product but I don''t seem to get all the properties that are in msi.h). It''s a little messy, and I''ve not got far as

Failed to retrieve current state of resource: No child processes
Hi, I don''t know whether this is a ruby, puppet, or facter bug. The whole issue is one of the "really weird" ones. I first noticed the problem when working with puppet on a train, without any internet connection. In such situation, two problems appear: 1) Mildly annoying, frequent 2-second pauses followed by: Timed out seeking value for ipaddress I think this is

Custom fact errors
I''m a newbie attempting to get a custom fact distributed to clients. I''ve followed the instructions at http://reductivelabs.com/trac/puppet/wiki/AddingFacts and based my first fact on a simple recipe. I''m having at least one problem and possibly more. 1) Puppet/facter fails to load the custom fact, complaining that "non- sh interpreters are not currently

0.24.2 release candidate
Hi all, I''ve done as much bug-fixing as I''m going to be able to do in 0.24.2, I think, so please test the current code if you can. I made some unfortunately significant changes today, in order to try to remove any shared objects in the file server, which will hopefully solve the file corruption issues, plus some very strange issues resulting from renaming

Is there any way to check if DTrace is running or a DTrace probe is enabled?
Hi, I am adding DTrace probes within NFS v3 client. In my current implementation, I use some tsd_*() functions and kmem_zalloc() function. These functions might be heavy and affect the performance. I want to call this function only when DTrace is running or the DTrace probes are enable. So is there a way to check DTrace is running or DTrace probe is enabled? Regards, Danhua

can Dtrace be used for the error injection?
Hi, is it somehow possible to use Dtrace for error injection in a kernel module? Something like changing: - function return value - value of a register If not, can it be implemented? I can do that via kmdb, but I need Dtrace for the time synchronization - chill() action. I can not combine Dtrace & kmdb: dtrace: failed to initialize dtrace: DTrace cannot be used when kernel debugger

a piece of code in dtrace pseudo device
Dear all: In dtrace.c, function dtrace_probe_create(), there''re a piece of code: id = (dtrace_id_t)(uintptr_t)vmem_alloc(dtrace_arena, 1, VM_BESTFIT | VM_SLEEP); id is uint32_t, and I think id is used as an index to array dtrace_probes[] but why not just use id = cur_value + 1, cur_value is a global variable to record the lastest id? Is this a trick? for what? Thanks :)

A document about implementing dtrace probes in SAX
Hi, I have mentioned before that we have added some sdt dtrace probes in SAX, our APL interpreter. Encouraged by Angelo and Jignesh, I have created a small document (5 pages) describing our experience with it, together with some problems we have encountered and some scripts we use for pretty-printing dtrace outputs. The said document can be found at
