X4500 device disconnect problem persists
After applying 125205-07 on two X4500 machines running Sol10U4 and removing "set sata:sata_func_enable = 0x5" from /etc/system to re-enable NCQ, I am again observing drive disconnect error messages. This in spite of the patch description which claims multiple fixes in this area: 6587133 repeated DMA command timeouts and device resets on x4500 6538627 x4500 message logs contain multiple

OpenSolaris 2008.11 - resilver still restarting
Just look at this. I thought all the restarting resilver bugs were fixed, but it looks like something odd is still happening at the start: Status immediately after starting resilver: # zpool status pool: rc-pool state: DEGRADED status: One or more devices has experienced an unrecoverable error. An attempt was made to correct the error. Applications are unaffected. action: Determine

ATA UDMA data parity error
Hey all, I''m not sure if this is a ZFS bug or a hardware issue I''m having - any pointers would be great! Resliver making the system unresponsive
This must be resliver day :) I just had a drive failure. The hot spare kicked in, and access to the pool over NFS was effectively zero for about 45 minutes. Currently the pool is still reslivering, but for some reason I can access the file system now. Resliver speed has been beaten to death I know, but is there a way to avoid this? For example, is more enterprisy hardware less susceptible to

SMART problems with AOC-SAT2-MV8 / marvell88sx driver
I''ve been trying to get either smartctl or sg3_utils to report properly. They both have the same low-level problems which leads me to suspect either I''m doing something wrong OR there is a problem in the marvell88sx / sd / SATA etc framework. I can access drive name/serial number of all drives on the SAT2 card and the temperature is returned from the IE log page on my two

slog / log recovery is here!
(From the README) # Jeb Campbell <jebc at c4solutions.net> NOTE: This is last resort if you need your data now. This worked for me, and I hope it works for you. If you have any reservations, please wait for Sun to release something official, and don''t blame me if your data is gone. PS -- This worked for me b/c I didn''t try and replace the log on a running system. My

Panic while scrubbing
Hello, I am not sure if I am posting in the correct forum, but it seems somewhat zfs related, so I thought I''d share it. While the machine was idle, I started a scrub. Around the time the scrubbing was supposed to be finished, the machine panicked. This might be related to the ''metadata corruption'' that happened earlier to me. Here is the log, any ideas? Oct 24

can you recover a pool if you lose the zil (b134+)
I was messing around with a ramdisk on a pool and I forgot to remove it before I shut down the server. Now I am not able to mount the pool. I am not concerned with the data in this pool, but I would like to try to figure out how to recover it. I am running Nexenta 3.0 NCP (b134+). I have tried a couple of the commands (zpool import -f and zpool import -FX llift) root at

mirror writes 10x slower than individual writes
I have an odd setup at present, because I''m testing while still building my machine. It''s an Intel Atom D510 mobo running snv_134 2GB RAM with 2 SATA drives (AHCI): 1: Samsung 250GB old laptop drive 2: WD Green 1.5TB drive (idle3 turned off) Ultimately, it will be a time machine backup for my Mac laptop. So I have installed Netatalk 2.1.1 which is working great. Read

Supermicro AOC-SASLP-MV8
Bouncing a thread from the device drivers list: http://opensolaris.org/jive/thread.jspa?messageID=357176 Does anybody know if OpenSolaris will support this new Supermicro card, based on the Marvell 88SE6480 chipset? It''s a true PCI Express 8 port JBOD SAS/SATA controller with pricing apparently around $125. If it works with OpenSolaris it sounds pretty much perfect. --------------

Strange Font
So anyway, I have been using linux for years now, currently Fedora 12, and just recently I opened a box and found several of my old windows games. Starcraft, Heroes, Age of Empires, Stronghold, etc, some of which I installed. Then I came to Masters of Orion. This game I figured my crappy netbook could handle, and I get a bunch of "??????????" s in place of the actual text in the

speeding up likelihood computation
R Users: I am trying to estimate a model of fertility behaviour using birth history data with maximum likelihood. My code works but is extremely slow (because of several for loops and my programming inefficiencies); when I use the genetic algorithm to optimize the likelihood function, it takes several days to complete (on a machine with Intel Core 2 processor [2.66GHz] and 2.99 GB RAM). ZFS, SATA, LSI and stability
After having massive problems with a supermicro X7DBE box using AOC-SAT2-MV8 Marvell controllers and opensolaris snv79 (same as described here: http://sunsolve.sun.com/search/document.do?assetkey=1-66-233341-1) we just start over using new hardware and opensolaris 2008.05 upgraded to snv94. We used again a supermicro X7DBE but now with two LSI SAS3081E SAS controllers. And guess what? Now we get

zpool import hangs system
Hello, I''ve been using Nexentastore Community Edition with no issues now for a while now, however last week I was going to rebuild a different system so I started to copy all the data off that to my to a raidz2 volume on me CE system. This was going fine until I noticed that they copy was stalled, as well as the entire system was non-responsive. I let it sit for several hours with no

numericDeriv() giving a vector when multiple variables input
R Help List -- I have defined two time-series-vector-valued-functions, let them be f and g, and want to find the numeric derivative of f with respect to the variable x where f depends on x through g: (d/dx)(f (g(x) ) Moreover, x is a vector I tried this out the long way (naming every element of the x vector and then making the 'theta' argument in numericDeriv() the character vector of

SCSI write retry errors on ZIL SSD drives...
I posted a thread on this once long ago[1] -- but we''re still fighting with this problem and I wanted to throw it out here again. All of our hardware is from Silicon Mechanics (SuperMicro chassis and motherboards). Up until now, all of the hardware has had a single 24-disk expander / backplane -- but we recently got one of the new SC847-based models with 24 disks up front and 12 in the

help diagnosing system hang
Hi all, First, I''ll say my intent is not to spam a bunch of lists, but after posting to opensolaris-discuss I had someone communicate with me offline that these lists would possibly be a better place to start. So here we are. For those on all three lists, sorry for the repetition. Second, this message is meant to solicit help in diagnosing the issue described below. Any hints on
