SID of member server in Samba domain (smbldap_search_domain_info: NT_STATUS_UNSUCCESSFUL)
I have a domain with Samba 3 acting as PDC, and using LDAP (passdb backend = ldapsam). I now wanted to add a second Samba 3 machine as a simple file server. I get errors with getdomainsid and getlocalsid, so there is obviously still something wrong with my config. The PDC runs Samba 3.5.6 on Debian Squeeze. Sid queries return: # net getdomainsid SID for local machine MY_PDC_HOST is:

Samba4 machine fails to join in samba3 domain
Louis is right, you should upgrade, but, in the meantime, try adding 'ntlm auth = yes' to your smb.conf, see if that helps. > > Also try running the following commands: > > net getlocalsid > > net getdomainsid > > Rowland > Yes they should upgrade, I totally agree. DC priority, BDC prob with domain groups
I have the following setup: PDC: Samba 3.0.37 on Solaris 10 BDC1: Samba 3.0.37 on Solaris 10 BDC2: Samba 3.4.3 on Solaris 10 Samba 3.0.37 is the bundled version of Samba. Samba 3.4.3 is compiled from source. BDC2 is a recent addition to the network. All machine use LDAP as the backend for everything. They use winbind to handle a domain trust with another domain, but otherwise

"net getdomainsid" reporting "Could not fetch local SID" -- am I using this command appropriately?
Good evening, Distro: ClearOS 6.3 (RHEL-derived with a distro-specific web configuration tool for samba) I'm only about 90% sure it's version 6.3. Samba version: 3.6.10-1.v6 Intended use: NT4-style PDC for Windows XP clients Issue: My distro's "add machine script" uses the output of "net getdomainsid" to help populate the new machine account's sambaSID field

net getlocalsid: is this a bug?
I noticed the following: Suppose that we have a server called "SMALLSERVER" working as a PDC for "SMALLDOMAIN**". When I enter "net getlocalsid" I get the following output: SID for domain SMALLSERVER is: S-1-5-21-xxxxxxxxx-xxxxxxxxx-xxxxxxxxx But when I enter "net getdomainsid" I get: SID for local machine SMALLSERVER is:

migrating Samba PDC to a new server
Hi, I'd like to migrate Samba 3.0.24-6etch10 PDC running on a Debian server to a new Ubuntu server. I plan to install Samba 3.0.28a-1ubuntu4.4 on the new server and then copy the files in /etc/samba and /var/lib/samba and copy the related Linux users in /etc/passwd and /etc/shadow. Will it work? Thanks in advance! ----- -- Kent Tong Wicket tutorials freely available at

I tried to rejoin domain - and I can ;) however

PDC: System SID missing / inconsistent with domain SID
Hello, I recently noticed a problem on our PDC (samba 3.0.32 on SLES 10 SP2) which I kind of know how to solve after web research but I am unclear about the possible consequences for our domain and clients. The situation is this: Originally samba was set up on this machine to test. Back then its hostname was infrahostnew, so there is a SID for that NETBIOS name in secrets.tdb. When the PDC went

SambaSID's on PDC/BDC
I have a server acting as a PDC, and another server acting as a BDC. When I run 'net getlocalsid' on each, they return different numbers. If I run 'net getlocalsid domain_name' on the BDC, it returns the PDC's sid. Is it import for each machine to have the same SID? Thanks, Chris

Samba and LDAP authentication backend
Hello, I'm facing a weird problem and I really do not know where I can find how to debug it. Since some years, we have a LDAP server ( Debian 6 and OpenLDAP 2.4.23 ) and a Samba server ( Debian 6 and Samba 3.5.6 ). They work pefectly well in a workgroup. The LDAP server is also used for some other applications like Squid, Zimbra, ... Now, we would to add a second Samba server ( Debian 7

Hi @ all, we use samba as a fileserver on CentOS and an OpenLDAP server on Ubuntu 10.04. So after upgrade we don't can connected us to the samba share. I have tested the connection with the tool smbclient "smblcient -L <servername> -U

Problem joining a domain.
Hi, I'm running Samba/openLDAP on a FC4 and I'm trying to make it work as a PDC. I installed all the software using yum instead smbldap-tools. I've done all the configuration but, when I try to join a Windows XP Professional named 'pc4' to the domain it fails with "Error joining the domain OPENWIRED. Username not found". And no machine account is created under
