Add new DomainController
Hello community, i have added a new Domain Controller. But when i add it, no dns records will be created. No A-Record, no CNAME-Record and also the _ldap._tcp.dc._msdcs.hq.kontrast record for the new DC is missing. This article i have checked and fix the A-records https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Verifying_and_Creating_a_DC_DNS_Record

NS records for a new AD DC
I have just joined a second DC to my Samba based AD, with Bind9_DLZ providing the DNS on DC2 (samba internal on DC1). I notice that the AD zone has not acquired an NS entry pointing to DC2. I presume that ideally such an entry should exist? I have tried to add something, but I cannot work out how to use samba-tool to add an RR for the root of a zone. If I miss the name argument out, or if I

maximum ad domain controller unavialability time
Hi, all. What is greatest period for AD DC (non FSMO) can be unavailable, for example, because network segment is unavailable for long time (3, 4 weeks)? Is the controller will be removed from AD automatically? And what to do after this network segment will become available? I have read about tombstoneLifeTime attribute of Directory Service (Configuration, Services, Windows NT), which default

NS records for a new AD DC
Anyway NS records are used when DNS server speak to DNS server, not by clients. So AD would work just fine without them. NS are used when a client ask something the configured resolver can't resolve by himself and when the resolver is not configured to forward request to relevant DNS server. IE: client search for toto.org and its resolver does not know anything about that zone. Resolver will

change SOA record
Hello list..:-) i have a little problem and don´t find a solution for it. Some time ago our first DC died and I replaced it with a new one with a different name but the same IP.didn´t want to change the DNS entry in all the clients. Guess since than the dynamic DNS update wasn´t working anymore, so I tried to find out the reason. What I found is that the SOA record was pointing still to the

domain member with winbind, slow smbcacls or smbclient listing
Hi, all! When I launch (again and again) smbcacls "//myfileserver/share" "" -U user -W domain or smbclient "//myfileserver/share" -U user -W domain -c "ls", in tcpdump output at myfileserver I see multiple calls to controller via ldap, therefore these commands are executed slowly. When I run getent groups at myfileserver, all worked fine, and tcpdump

[Samba4] samba_dlz problem "loading configuration: already exists"
Hi, I'm new to this list and Samba4, so may be this is a stupid question. I've installed samba4 (4.0.0alpha18-GIT-7b42ceb) on a server in my home LAN and have a problem with samba_dlz and bind (9.8.1-P1). In the zone definition file for my LAN domain, I had configured the IP addresses for several host names (e.g. printer, ...) with "A" records. This worked perfectly fine in

change SOA record
Hi Rowland, I followed this page "https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Verifying_and_Creating_a_DC_DNS_Record" more than once. Everything in here is fine...every test successful. My problem is that the existing SAO record is pointing to dc1.samdom.example.com which doesn´t exist anymore. Now it must be dc01.samdom.example.com. What happens when I try to add ... samba-tool dns add

unique index violation on objectSid
Hi Valery, First thank you for this detailed information about your searches. I find them very interesting. Here I'm thinking of two workarounds. The first one would be to list deleted objects RIDs, to verify RID=2002 is really the last one used, being sure there is no deleted object with RID=2003 and so on. Then once you get the last RID used, you could change RidNextRid to match this
