LDAPS is not working
Hi, after a successfully migrating my NT4 with OpenLDAP to a Samba4 AD...I got a problem. Like in the sambawiki tutorial (https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Configuring_LDAP_over_SSL_(LDAPS)_on_a_Samba_AD_DC) I tried to configure LDAPS. I used the auto-configured certs. They are located in "/var/lib/samba/private/tls". My smb.conf: # Global parameters [global] netbios name = PDC

missing group affiliation on ad dc
Hi, I've a strange problem. I migrated my NT4 PDC to a ad on my debian stretch (samba version is 4.5.12). The Domain Controller has some shares for my users. One user just told me he can't access the share...before the migration he was able to access the share btw! So I checked the ACL's of this share. Its: root at server:~# getfacl /media/exampleshare # file: media/exampleshare

Hello, I have migrate my samba NT4 Domain to AD. There are 2 DC for failover. Sysvol is synced with rsync. Sometimes the network drive is not connected on userlogin. A manual start of login script or relogin do solve that problem. Did someone know whats wrong there? How can I debug the login process? There is no command window like on windows nt4 domain login process. Clients are Windows 7.

NT4 Migration Question
A client has an existing NT4 domain with several NT4 servers. Two of the NT4 Servers function as a PDC and a BDC. We are installing Samba-3 on SuSE 9.0 Pro as a PDC with an LDAP backend, and decommissioning the NT4 PDC at the same time. So far, so good. We can also rebuild the old PDC hardware as a Samba-3 on SuSE 9.0 Pro BDC. Unfortunately however, the NT4 BDC cannot be removed from the network

missing group affiliation on ad dc
Might I found (a reason for) my problem. Domain ID's and BUILTIN ID's are overlapping. For example "EXAMPLE\domain admins" has gid "512", "EXAMPLE\backup" has gid "10039" and "BUILTIN\print operators" has 550. Could this be a problem? Changing Samba PDC to a different machine (and netbios name)
Hi. Is it possible/feasible to change the samba PDC name to a different machine with a new netbios name? the reason for this is, that I want to do the update NT4 Domain -> ADC and since it's recommended to not have PDC and file server on the same machine I was going to seperate them. For that I'd need to have a different server act as PDC. Also another part of the question is: is

NT4 PDC w/Exchange 5.5 migration
Hello, I'm working on migrating an NT4 PDC to a Samba 3 PDC. The tricky part, is that the NT4 server is also running Exchange 5.5 which needs to remain running. So unlike a migrate and toss the NT4 system, I need to migrate, then demote the NT4 PDC to an NT4 Server, then (probably) rejoin the domain as Exchange Server will not run on a non-domain member system. Basically looking for any

Idmap config Samba 4 NT4-style domain
Hello, I have a server with an NT4-style domain an Samba 4.2.14+dfsg-0+deb8u5. The samba uses an LDAP backend and all is fine so far. Samba users start at uid 1005 (it's not good I know but it's historical) Domain Users Group has UID 513. Now my Problem: The winbind log is full of [2017/04/07 16:35:50.896450, 1] ../source3/winbindd/idmap.c:230(idmap_init_domain) idmap range not

Eventually transitioning to Windows Server 2016
Hi, I am preparing to get our Data Center from a Samba 3.5 NT4 domain to AD. All users, file ownerships, etc. have to remain of course. I am planning to use Samba 4.7.x, but I was wondering if it is possible to eventually transition to Windows Server 2016 as the only DC hosts. The way I understand it is that this is not possible right now, because Samba doesn't support that schema version

Demote old NT4 PDC to member of Samba domain?
Hi, When installing Samba, I made it a PDC in a new domain. Now I would like the old NT4 PDC in the old domain to become a plain host in my Samba domain. Is this possible? I need to keep the old NT4 machine because it's running the Symantec Corporate Edition NAV. In other words, I have NEWDOMAIN with Samba PDC and all clients OLDDOMAIN with NT4 PDC alone, no client Can my NT4 PDC become

samba-tool not working as i'd expect
Hello all, I'm having problems using the "samba-tool" tool. From the documentation i've read, the following command 'should' work. Apparently i'm missing something. #### [root at vmhost bin]# pwd /usr/local/samba/bin [root at vmhost bin]# ./samba-tool domain provision --realm=mytest.local --domain=MYTEST --adminpass='welcome' --server-role='dc'
