vfs_fruit causes delay in listing directories for Windows clients
Listing directories with many files (10000+) from a Windows client is nociceably slower when vfs_fruit is enabled on the samba server compared to the same setup without vfs_fruit. On my setup it's roughly 2.5 times slower. To me it looks like this is caused by the getxattr call which is only present with vfs_fruit activated and introduces an additional delay of ~ 0.00033 s per listed

Migration to vfs_fruit with existing AppleDouble files?
Thanks for the response! This would be really helpful because we use a lot of old adobe type 1 fonts that are 100% resource fork and are rendered unusable without the marshalled xattr's in addition to the AFP_ streams. While ideally having it seamlessly integrated into samba would be great, if it's easier to run a one-time conversion utility we can do that too. Thanks! -S On Wed, Apr

vfs_fruit: xattr imcompatible with netatalk
Hi. I'm testing samba 4.2.0 vfs_fruit on Fedora Server 22-alpha. I confirmed that ResourceFork and FinderInfo are compatible with Netatalk 3.1.7. However, EAs are incompatible. The character ":" in EA name is wrong. The EAs are not seen from clients. smb.conf: [test2] path = /export/test2 writable = yes vfs objects = catia fruit streams_xattr fruit:locking =

Migration to vfs_fruit with existing AppleDouble files?
(apologies to Ralph, I replied directly to him w/o copying the lists, so here we go again) In my testing that wasn't the case. If I manually copy the apple generated AppleDouble file and it's 0 byte main file to my test system, the correct size (including the resource forks) are shown but the file type is not translated. Using "GetFileInfo" a file copied to the new

OS X 10.4.11 Tiger cannot write to Samba 4.5.12 file server with vfs_fruit enabled
Hello, thought I’d post here before opening up an issue on Bugzilla, just in case… I’m setting up a combination Samba 4.5.12/Netatalk 3.1.11 file server on Debian Stretch (kernel version 4.9.0-4-amd64), servicing a network containing Windows, macOS, and OS X Tiger 10.4.11 systems. As I understand it, vfs_fruit is necessary for proper interoperation with Netatalk 3, so I have that enabled on my

Migration to vfs_fruit with existing AppleDouble files?
Hello! I have a quite large installation that currently supports OSX clients by forcing them to SMB1 with no streams (via the "nsmb.conf") file. This setup forces the OSX clients to generate their own ._[FILENAME] appledouble files for files with resource forks (like adobe documents). We recently discovered the fine work that's been done on vfs_fruit and wanted to see it it could

Mac OS Timemachine over SMB
Is it possible to backup Mac OS devices through a Samba share on Samba 4.4.6 on Fedora 24 with Time Machine? I am able to successfully advertise the share through Avahi, connect to it in Finder, and read/write files. I am also able to see the share as a destination in Time Machine, but selecting it shows an error that "The selected network backup disk does not support the required

vfs_fruit 'other' create mode different than parent
Hello all, I'm trying enable vfs_fruit. One problem I've noticed is that when a file or directory is created on a Macintosh the "other" mode is 'r--' (file) or 'r-x' (directory) even though the parent directory is '---'. On Windows, Linux, and Macintosh with vfs_fruit not loaded all create files and directories with mode for other set to

vfs_fruit & resource forks on macOS
From version 4.10.6 onwards folder icons are not working anymore on macOS. I can see the "._Icon?? file written on disk but seems like Samba isn?t reading it back and presenting it to the client. Is there a change or new setting that is needed on more recent versions, or have I hit a bug? I noticed 4.10.6 had some work done regarding AppleDouble and resource forks. In the client log I?m

vfs fruit unable to create xattr and ACL from OS X 10.10.4
Hello I am trying to integrate OS X 10.10.4 clients into existing Samba infractructure run by our IT department. We are currently using Samba 4.2.3. File share is stored on iSCSI array with ext4 filesystem which should support both ACL and XATTR. We are trying to setup vfs_fruit module to avoid possible performance problems on OS X clients. We do NOT user netatalk. Current vfs_fruit config:

vfs_fruit and extended attributes
Hello list. I?m attempting to improve how Samba shares directories on our Gluster volume to Mac users by using the vfs_fruit module. This module does wonders for speeding listings and downloads of directories with large numbers of files in the Finder, but it kills uploads dead. Finder gives an error: The Finder can?t complete the operation because some data in ?[filename]? can?t be read or
