Change "Computers" settings in Samba 4
Hi,
I used to successfully migrated Samba3 to Samba4 but there are some
problems which I can't proceed coz it needs to be re-authenticated the
computers/machines previously connected in Samba3.
As I observed, using the Windows Remote Administration Tools (Active
Directory Users and Computers) under the Computers, the computer name
properties in General tab some entries are blanks

Joining Samba4 Member to Samba3 Domain
Before I start beating my head against the wall, is there a howto someplace
for joining a Samba4 member or BDC to a samba3 domain? Am I going about
this all wrong?
I most likely will update the PDC to samba 4 next summer due to the amount
of automation we have to modify that leverages OpenLDAP. The LDAP server
that comes with Samba4 seems kinda limited by comparison.
In the meantime, cannot

some question about BDCs
Hi,
I want to set up SaMBa PDC and BDC with LDAP. I read the TOSHARG2, but don't
understand something:
>Samba-3 cannot participate in true SAM replication and is therefore not
able to employ
>precisely the same protocols used by MS Windows NT4. A Samba-3 BDC will not
create
>SAM update delta files.
Ok, I understand until that, but:

Old question - NT4 BDC in Samba domain?
Hi!
I have to migrate a samba domain to an Active Directory and
therefore I need as first step to have a NT4.0 BDC in my network.
As I don't find an useful answer via google I want to ask you if a
NT4 BDC will work in a Samba PDC enviroment?
regards
Martin

Samba 4 BDC to Windows 2008 PDC
Hello folks,
The documentation for running Samba as a BDC clearly states that it is
not operational with a Windows PDC [1], but this documentation covers
Samba-3 and it was suggested in IRC by scooby2 that this functionality
is now suported in Samba 4. Can anyone else confirm this? Should I use
the documentation for Smaba BDC or is there more current documentation
for this functionality?

Replacing WinNT 4 PDC with Samba PDC
Hi All!
Thanks to all of you that responded to my previous posts. I've gotten a lot
more info now than I used to have!
But I still have questions. The biggest right now is: Is there a way build
up a Samba PDC as a direct replacement for an existing Windows NT 4.0 PDC?
All the material I've found to date is written from a standpoint of creating
a new domain as you create the Samba

NT4-Samba Migration Test Results
John,
We previously corresponded on our testing of Samba 3.0.0 RC4. Since
then,
we have downloaded the Samba 3.0.0 Release version for testing with some
interesting results.
The Setup
Major Networks: Solaris (NIS), Windows Native NT4 Domain
Our Test Plan
We are testing Samba 3.0 as a candidate for replacing the old NT4
Domain.
Being a complex production networking environment, we replicated

Samba3 shares cannot be mounted on linux box uisng cifs command , error "CIFS VFS: cifs_mount failed w/return code = -13"
Thanks Rowland!
few answers to your question:
1) I used the samba-tool domain classicupgrade to "migrate" the domain for
the pdc to a new Ubuntu server with sernet-samba-4.2.2
2) on the DC, I have configured the service to use the old winbind, as
that's just enaugh for our domain and it looked more stable during the test
phasethe smb.conf of the DC is the following:

well, I have configured the kdc client on the file server, joined the
domain using net ads join and it worked fine, again getnet group , getnet
passwd , wbinfo -u they all works perfectlly fine
I am also able to browse the shares from any windows machine joined to the
CCDC domain, but I am still not able to do ANY mount.cifs, not even form
linux boxes joined to the domain :-/
I have no idea

Samba3 shares cannot be mounted on linux box uisng cifs command , error "CIFS VFS: cifs_mount failed w/return code = -13"
I have some more findings about this
it looks like getent does not get the right information from the Domain
Controller, in fact the domain user groups shows with NO member users:
getent group | grep "domain users"
domain users:x:10000:
root at seadog:~#
Now funny thing is that other folders for wwhich getent retrieves the users
correctlly are mounted fine . any idea why I don t see

Good Day All
I have a problem for our main fileserver base don samba 3.5.6
Let's give a bit of pregress first. We had a samba 3.5.6 installation which
was acting as a PDC for our internal domian called CCDC. On a sapearate
machine, we had another installation of samba 3.5.6 to act just as file
share server.
All was working ok, till I upgraded the PDC form samba 3.5.6 to samba
4.2.2 , using
