Fwd: Installing EnterpriseSamba (Sernet-samba) on Ubuntu
I will add here that my server provisioned yesterday afternoon. However, I did not have time to do any testing. So, this morning testing and the first thing I discovered was "sernet-samba-ad" service was NOT running. I found a Debian Wheezy sernet samba posting (via Google) and within it read that users need to edit "/etc/default/sernet-samba" as follows: # ---- SETUP

sernet samba4 on Ubuntu
I am attempting to install EnterpriseSamba (Sernet) on a Ubuntu 14.04.1LTS server. I finding it a challenge to determine the proper installation and configuration procedures with sernet-samba. There are no (at least I cannot find them) how-to's or instructions or readme on the sernet download website. Any ideas where to find such or guidance? (I post this here because I seem to remember

sernet samba4 on Ubuntu
Did, as su "apt-get install sernet-samba-ad" (after adding source to repositories.) (Have a test setup on CentOS 6.6 running but it is Samba 4.3.0 ** from git. Would prefer Samba version not so new as 4.3.0 so, want to change to Ubuntu.) --- ------------------------- Bob Wooden of Donelson Trophy 615.885.2846 (main) www.donelsontrophy.com [1] "Everyone deserves an

sernet samba4 on Ubuntu
Yes, it did install a bunch of packages from the sernet site. So far all the tests are failing. Seems that Sernet put samba under slightly different directories so I am struggling with testing. I was hoping there was some documentation on sernet site that I was having trouble finding, obviously not. Give me some time. It is just different again (from CentOS howto I had used in the past.) I

I looked at these once, Rowland. I am a novice and not wanting to run bind9 for the dns (one ADDC and three, maybe four clients) the SAMBA_INTERNAL DNS has always work fine for me in testing. These scripts were a "little too advanced" for my experience. (Not that it won't serve anyone else quite well.) Just surprised that there is so little, almost non-existent documentation for

sernet support?
I have seen this mentioned before. Searched for it but never found. Does sernet support have an 'open forum'? If so, could someone post a link? -- ------------------------- Bob Wooden of Donelson Trophy 615.885.2846 (main) www.donelsontrophy.com [1] "Everyone deserves an award!!" ntpq -p ***Request timed out
Copied Roweland's DC ntp.conf file into my two DC's. Restarted (all) ntp. Member still timing out! (I am starting to think that there is 'something' about the sernet packages that "they" do differently.) Rowland, Could I ask you to copy the ntp.conf from your client (appears to be your laptop) so I could review it's contents? --- ------------------------- Bob

cannot update apt-get
You are correct. I discovered (a few minutes ago) that /etc/apt/sources.list.d/debian-wheezy-sernet.list had the duplicate line within it. Funny thing was, when I "comment out" the duplicate line, that "commented out" the single entry within the file. All other lines were already 'commented out'. So, after 'apt-get update' ran without error, I went back and

Thank you, Rowland. Copied your simpler ntp.conf file into my member server. Made the appropriate changes. Restarted all the ntp service on all machines (just in case.) Ran 'ntpq -p' (on member server) and got the correct answer. Proper connection to DC's. --- ------------------------- Bob Wooden of Donelson Trophy 615.885.2846 (main) www.donelsontrophy.com [1] "Everyone

Thank you Hector. Despite my poor spanish, I can see that I need to check what dependencies are loading with Sernet-samba. More tomorrow when I am at a better machine to communicate with the forum on. On my member server (Debian 7.8.0/Sernet Samba 4.2.2) when I run "apt-get update" I am receiving the following: Reading package lists... ntpq -p ***Request timed out
Made the suggested adjustments (4 locations in the member server ntp.conf file) and restarted ntp. Still (member server) timing out. Not sure what you mean about removing "server 0.debian.pool.ntp.org iburst" lines. Those on the DC's. Aren't they necessary? Running 'ntpq -p' on DC's results in correct response. --- ------------------------- Bob Wooden of

Sernet Samba-4 Howto for Centos 6.4
I have registered at https://portal.enterprisesamba.com, but am unclear regarding which packages to install for a fully functioning samba4 installation, or if there are prerequisites such as krb5. I am starting with a minimal install of Centos 6.4. I can make some reasonably educated guesses, but don't want to miss something important. Anyone know if there is a step by step howto for
