Rsync to backup dbox with SIS
We will be deploying a replacement Dovecot server soon, and we are planning to use maildir for the primary storage, but with an archive namespace using mdbox (or perhaps sdbox), and SIS. Our backup servers and (luke)warm spare server need to obtain full copies of the mail store. For the maildirs I know I can simply use rsync (we already use it here). I'm a little wary of using rsync with

Can quota_rule be inherited by child mailboxes?
Is there a way to make quota_rule apply to subfolders? I've got some symlinked mailboxes which I want to exclude from quotas. This would work, but is verbose: quota_rule6 = USERS.aaa:ignore quota_rule7 = USERS.bbb:ignore ... quota_rule9999 = USERS.zzz:ignore But simply writing this: quota_rule7 = USERS:ignore doesn't apply to USERS.xxx and so on. The wiki says

500 Internal Server Error on Cisco 7940 after INVITE
Hi, Our Cisco 7940 phones on a single network sometimes seem to drop calls as soon as they are picked up. After a second INVITE the phone sends '500 Internal Error'. One phone thinks its still in a call (though there is no audio) while the other phone is not in a call. The drop happens immediately after connecting and I think it is due to a second INVITE. Turning reinvite off seems

Migration to multi-dbox and SiS
Dear list, A huge thank-you first of all for all the work that's gone into Dovecot itself. I'm rebuilding a mail server next week and so, taking the rare opportunity to re-consider all the options I've had running over the past couple of years. Around the time of the last re-build (2010), there had been some discussion on single instance storage, which was quite new on Dovecot

Migrating from Maildir to dbox+SIS... sdbox or mdbox?
Ok... Now that I've got the niggling issues resolved, on to bigger and better things. I want to convert everyone from Maildir to dbox and enable SIS (our users use a lot of large attachments), and after some reading/googling, I think it may be better to use dsync instead of rsync for the actual migration after all since it will do this at the same time as the syncing. If I'm not

dbox + SIS + zlib fixed
I think a few people have complained about this combination being somewhat broken, resulting in bogus "cached message size wrong" errors sometimes. This fixes it: http://hg.dovecot.org/dovecot-2.0/rev/9b2931607063

Sharing user folders doesn't work when users have periods in names.
I am using period as an IMAP separator with Maildir directories and I cannot share folders where the user has a period in their name. Suppose I log in as 'some.user' and do: SETACL INBOX mailtest at example.co.uk +lrwstipekxacd /var/mail/virtual/users/some.user/Maildir/dovecot-acl is created, with appropriate contents and shared-mailboxes.db gains an entry for

maildir vs dbox?
I'm facing some issues on mdbox based backups. Backups are failing with dbox corruption messages. SiS is the greatest advantage though. However backups integrity is very important. If SiS/Deduplication is not a requirement stick to Maildir. Disable SIS
Hi, I'm currently running a small home-server with Dovecot. A long time ago I configured it with SIS enabled. I would like to stop using SIS. If I remove sis from mail_attachment_fs will the old mails that are stored in SIS-storage still be accessible? How can I convert all mailboxes to stop using SIS and store attachments back in the mails? Rgds, N.

users of dbox format
Andreas, > I am interested in finding out your experiences with using the dbox > format (especially mdbox) if you use this format. mdbox is THE reason why I am trying Dovecot. With mailboxes of several (tens of) GB with several k of messages I hope mdbox will speedup backups. Also SIS for attachments sounds very good, but still doesn't follow the altstorage rules (while messages go to

2.1.rc1 (8a63f621bd2e): SiS permission issue + crash
Since changeset 8a63f621bd2e I'm one step closer to the perfect working setup. I'm sharing one GID per domain, all it's alias names and accounts. So I can use: mail_attachment_dir = /srv/mail/.SiS/%{gid} In order to avoid permission trouble I've set fs ACL on the .SiS dir: ,--[ getfacl srv/mail/.SiS ]-- | # file: srv/mail/.SiS | # owner: root | # group: root | user::rwx |

Regenerating mdbox/sis
It's apparent I have some level of corruption in my mailboxes - something to do with the combination of mdbox, sis, and zlib. I should note that I know I have a mix of compressed and raw messages - if that makes any difference in identifying the problems. I think I need to somehow regenerate the mailboxes with issues. Is there a suggestion for how to accomplish this? Should I perhaps use
