don't use centos 7 as a developer workstation
Hi, May be it's not clear to everyone.. so this's just a quick notice to everyone. Don't use CentOS 7 as a developer workstation since currently there is not included any developer IDE. As eclipse was pulled out from the main distro and put into Red Hat Developer Toolset (which is imho a good idea not to use a 7 years old IDE). But Red Hat Developer Toolset is still not supported on

system-config-network centos altarch
Hi I have just installed centos 7 altarch on a 32 bit computer. I selected the minimal system install. I see that when I search with yum there is no command system-config-network, i.e. yum search system-config-network Does this command (system-config-network) still exist? Would I expect it to be in the repository even though I did a minimum install? Although I do not have X, I can run some X

syslog-ng or rsyslog?
Hi All. I've used syslog-ng for some time. I like it. I have a project in which I need to choose a central logging solution. What are your experiences with rsyslog? Is it more complex to setup than syslog-ng? Or maybe does it have some additional features? I am also thinking about using some gui tools for log parsing and graphing. May be proprietary/paid. Any suggestions? Best regards,

Updating/Backing Up Server
I am slowly migrating the data etc off an old CentOS32 4.x server to a new CentOS64 5.x server. The old server only has 15Gbyte of its hard drive in use. Is there an easy/safe way to copy the entire contents of old server root directory to a directory on the new server for future reference? Most of the data is various test files, perl scripts, etc. scattered all over.

6.5, minor annoyances
I rebuilt my system a couple/three weeks ago, and it's running 6.5, and there's a couple of minor annoyances: first, all my xterms, when I login in from the console, always are in ~/Documents, rather than ~. The other is that, running KDE, I can't find where to turn *off* the stupid login/logout theme music.* Oh, and I get this enTHUsiastic menu, rather than the traditional one.

Anyone has experience with OpenVAS and the Atomicorp repository
I was looking for a vulnerability scanner and found OpenVAS. Does anyone has experiences with that scanner? And with the Atomicorp repository? (the OpenVAS website refers to that repo) Thanks Patrick

DDR2 compile times (was Re: segfaults with 8 gig of ram)
Hello All. Below are some compile times for 2.6.20 on an fx-62 running Centos64 with various 2 gig sticks of dual channel ram (See previous posts with subject of 'segfaults with 8gig of ram' for more details.) It seems dual channel will compile a kernel faster, but only gained around 30 seconds over 20 minutes. Below are the shortest/longest compile times of several compiles done over the

Any experience with lanner appliances?
Hi, anybody has installed CentOS on an lanner appliance...? Eg. http://www.lannerinc.com/products/all-purpose-box-computers/industrial-automation/lec-2126 I was planning to buy an hp microserver to make a "small" CentOS firewall (and more since it is overpowered), but I am wondering if I could go for a lot smaller and with no fan/noise... but at the same time a bit more expensive...

A last, desperate hope - video modes
Hi, folks. This is, in fact, off-topic: I'm fighting a user's FC19 box. I updated him, rebooted... and his ATI video card seems to not be supported any more (and it's *not* that old - an RV620). The thing that drives me crazy is, when I reinstalled the whole system, whatever video driver the installer used for graphical install *worked*. So: does anyone have any idea a) what driver

centos rsync paths: cobbler
am using cobbler to import via rsync -and having trouble munging paths properly to download the 64-bit dvd or others, -what's a known good rsync path to use, or a command line that would allow me to determine this myself? When I use the web browsers of course and go to centos.org, you'll get the usual "not a suppoorted protocol" when clicking around trying to isolate a good

Dos/Unix newline translating
I'm using server with Debian 6.0.3 + Samba 3.5.6 where I shared "/temporary" folder. It happens this behaviour: if I create a text file in my Windows XP client and I copy it to /temporary folder, then I open it by VI editor into my Debian server and I see '^M' at the end of every row. How can I solve problem ? Problem references to Dos/Unix newline translating ?

article for consideration, Atheros 5007EG wireless card
I have a page where I document getting the increasingly popular AR5007EG Atheros wireless card working. (This is the card used in the Asus EEE PC). The current article covers several distributions, but would be modified to just cover CentOS. It does, however, involve getting third party software, as the rpmforge repos don't have the necessary drivers. (Apparently, it's a bit of a
