Oracle Install
We have CentOS Forums here: http://www.centos.org/modules/newbb/ Akemi Yagi (toracat on IRC) and Fabian Arrotin (arrfab on IRC) are the Forum Moderators. There are a lot of posts there that I find helpful when doing web searches ... but we could use more people answering questions there. Also, we specifically need some people to answer questions concerning Oracle database deployment in the

Correct xen domains path
Hi all, Two questions 1. According to http://wiki.centos.org/HowTos/Xen/InstallingCentOSDomU?highlight=%28xen%29 it would be /srv/xen or even /var/lib/xen/images. ?What is the correct absolute path to put into the xen domains files? 2. Moreover, if you want the domU(s) boot together dom0, you should put the domains files (images) into /etc/xen/auto. ?A simple symlink will be enough in

pygrub cannot find kernel
I just installed a CentOs 5 domU system on a CentOS 5 dom0 system following the instructions detailed here: http://wiki.centos.org/HowTos/Xen/InstallingCentOSDomU. The installation went through successfully. After installation, however, pygrub can't find a kernel. This is the xen cfg file I'm using: bootloader="/usr/bin/pygrub" name = "testsrv" memory =

LVM + kickstart -> dom0 && domUs
centos-virt, I'm trying to create/install domU guests all in "one" step, following Daniel's wiki page (I've found these pages really helpful, BTW): http://wiki.centos.org/HowTos/Xen/InstallingCentOSDomU I have a few questions about this process: (1) How would it be modified (w/respect to defining the disk in the domain configuration file) to use a disk layout where dom0

Diskless Setup
Max, Would you please zip up the contents of /tftpboot/linux-install/pxelinux.cfg. You can send it to <jses27 at gmail.com>. After you use the Nettboot Tool to configure the diskless client it will not update the pertinate files to do so. So in saying it will not boot the default OS. Maybe this could be an error of mine.. But then again there was a post related to this issue this week.

kernel update doesn't update grub.conf
Just updated another machine to 5.3, everything fine, but grub.conf wasn't updated to the 128 kernel. It got a new modified date and the kernel is there, but the content wasn't changed. /etc/sysconfig/kernel contains the correct UPDATEDEFAULT=yes No errors in logs or during the update. No problem to boot with this kernel once added. This is the first time I ever see this happen. Any

Alan, I knew of the Dell article, as I have all of those saved for reference. [1] I was just wondering if you knew of any that were for someone knew to Linux. You know the Microsoft type tutorials that have screenshot with them. That's the question I get asked a lot of times from around my home area. In turn when these users that are new to Linux they get discouraged when they can't

xen CentOS 5.2 domU install error: "Error mounting device xvda1 as /boot"
Hello CentOS Xen experts, I am attempting my first Xen installation. I have a Centos 5.2 server (dom0) and am attempting to install a Centos 5.2 guest (domU). The install goes fine with one exception. At the end it complains "error mounting /boot". My efforts googling around the net to dig up a solution have come up empty, although I've seen similar issues reported.

Requirements for a PVM enabled distro
(My apologies if this is the wrong list or if this question has been asked before. I’ve done quite a bit of searching and can’t find an answer) I am working on a heavily modified version of CentOS with a user-land that mostly matches 5.4 and a kernel based on 6.2. I''ve found tutorials on how to create a CentOS PVM (such as http://wiki.centos.org/HowTos/Xen/InstallingCentOSDomU) but I

Addition to Xen documentation
Hi guys, At this page: http://wiki.centos.org/HowTos/Xen/InstallingCentOSDomU?highlight=%28xen%29 it says: "You will need an domU installation initrd image and kernel. Both can be downloaded from: http://mirror.centos.org/centos/5/os/i386/images/xen/" I'd like to suggest adding the following: "or http://mirror.centos.org/centos/5/os/x86_64/images/xen/" Thanks, Bart

XEN and PCIPassthru
I have an old windows NT machine, that I would like to virtualize under CentOS and xen. The problem is, that the machine has an old PCI card that is used for some sensor control. I tried to google the topic, but there isn't any useful tutorial, how to do this under CentOS. What I found out is, that I need a machine that supports the Intel VT-d technology and at least XEN 3.3. Does someone on

Adobe Acrobat Reader 9.3 - slightly OT
I've noticed recently that the latest version of Adobe's Acrobat Reader (9.3) has a really annoying tendency to stop for 30-60 seconds shortly after it starts up to read/display a PDF file. I don't see this on my Windows copies, just on CentOS. Anyone know what's up with that? Thanks. mhr

DVD reader: Hardware problem or OS glitch?
Hello: The box is dual boot (Win XP & CentOS 5). A Dell Dimension 4300 Celeron. There was an intermittent problem with this last year and last Thanksgiving, I wiped the HD and installed Win XP and CentOS 5 clean. My daughter asked me to install KStars which is in the kdeedu RPM on the Fedora Core 6 Install DVD. I did that, without any problems, on my box and on my wife's box. On the

Adding RAM
I have a server running Centos 4.7 32bit. Will moving from 4Gig of RAM to 8Gig do any good? Since its 32bit I assume it will only be able to address the first 4Gig not? When I installed CentOS I did not do anything special to enable using more then 4Gig if thats required. Exim, spamassassin and Clamd seem to be the biggest load on this machine. My biggest bottle neck is disk I/O anyway. Wish
