httpd userdir problem
I'm running httpd-2.4.6-31.el7.centos.1.x86_64 under CentOS-7 (kernel 3.10.0-229.14.1.el7.x86_64). I cannot get the httpd userdir facility working; when I try to access localhost/Menloe I get the message "You don't have permission to access /Menloe on this server." I see in /var/log/httpd/error_log "Symbolic link not allowed or link target not accessible:

question on cut
I am trying to use cut to tell me the suffix of a file. for example: echo /home/silentm/log/file.machine.log | cut -d . -f 1- I was expecting to get .log or log but I get the entire string echoed back. doing the opposite gave me what I expected: echo /home/silentm/log/file.machine.log | cut -d . -f 1 gives me /home/silentm/log/file I am trying to find a way to test if the file ends in .log?

403 (Forbidden) with Apache on Mongrel Cluster
Hi, I''ve configured a rails application on my VPS to run on two mongrels. When I run curl on localhost, the starting page comes up fine. That is, mongrel is serving the app perfectly. The problem arises when trying to access the app on my ip through apache. I get a 403 error. Just to test things out, I''ve set generous permissions on the entire rails directory structure

Help with httpd userdir recovery
I lost my harddrive on my little personal webserver that only serves some private files from my userdir. So I am trying to build this from notes on a new Centos7.3 installation (well really Centos7.3-arm, but supposedly same sources). Right now the server is running on a test subnet, not the production, but I have set up the hostname and my standard httpd edits. I have enabled userdir and
